I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

That's a monkey from Äffle und Pferdle but the thing is I don't know what Äffle und Pferdle is. I only know that it seems like from TV show in Germany. Wish I have German listeners right now!
  6:35pm
joe!:

why god invented google: Äffle and Pferdle are two cartoon characters of the Südwestrundfunk (Southwest German Radio). They have been established in 1960 as so-called commercial separators between advertisement spots. The characters illustrate typical Swabian habits and speak the unique Swabian dialect. The Pferdle (horse) character relates to the emblem of the city of Stuttgart.

Äffle und Pferdle are "little ape" and "Little Horse" who speak in Swabian (southwestern German dialect). They used to be on the TV stations in that part of Germany as bumpers between programs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm
Webhamster Henry:

TV at that time and place lumped commercials together and stuck these little animations in between them to keep your attention.

Listened to this one this morning over breakfast, loved it. I gotta catch Vertigo live one of these days, dammit
Avatar 9:16pm

Thanks for the info, Webham Henry! Wish I could understand the nuance of its using Swabian. Like it a lot nevertheless. And thanks for listening, Evan!! Not sure if this was breakfast kind of show, haha, but I'm happy you enjoyed it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm
fred:

"Le tube de l'année" means "top hit of the year"
"Ma charette est malade, mon cheval est cassé" means "my cart is sick, my horse is broken"
That "Ze Pech'Nouz group" name looks like a joke about Brittany bumpkins, but I have no idea how tongue-in-cheek that was
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
fred:

Thanks again Mayuko! Some prime Jandek there, and I hadn't even thought about that Tom Petty track in 30 years but instantly remembered the video. And more thanks for playing Kyrgyz music; you should see that live, just hearing these komuz made me see the way they play. I think Brian Turner posted a great video of that on the now defunct blog, but it was mistakenly tagged as Tajik
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm
fred:

Here's the video Brian once posted: www.youtube.com...
From what I've seen firsthand, it's actually pretty tame by Kyrgyz standards
Avatar 12:09am
Mayuko:

fred, this video is so so so beautiful both musically/visually! These music really sound like music of horseback races - the rhythm of a galloping horse. I would love to know more about them and would love to see their Legend of Manas recitals too! And thank you for the translation - now I understand Peter Nelson was talking about this in his comment!
