Live performance by Goddess

Experimental folk ensemble Goddess writes, as they describe it, "...songs about the dark places in our heads and pasts, influenced by madrigals, Bartok, nursery rhymes, Amish culture, Sandy Denny, the Polanski movie Fearless Vampire Killers, shamanic trance music, a deer organ we found in the woods, church hymns, showtunes and Krautrock." On their latest album, "Paradise," founders Andy, Tamalyn and Fran perform on their usual blend of unconventional instruments, which include a homemade horsehair fiddle, toystore guitar and keyboard, dulcimer and tree branch. Goddess brought their darkly beautiful music to the WFMU studios.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm Mike East:

@JakeGould - I will 100% agree that early September weather is as gorgeous as it gets. I'll always remember what a beautiful day, weatherwise, 9/11 was.
I don't know what the hell that was last week, but I'm glad its over.

...they use Belladonna to dilate your pupils when you go the eye doctor...course it literally means 'lovely lady' - & the pupil dilation was considered attractive in Medieval times...
  10:10pm Revolution Rabbit Nov 63:

...what was the other 'evil' thing?
  10:13pm JakeGould:

EvilivEvilivEvilivE

  10:23pm Revolution Rabbit Nov 63:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm Mike East:

Avatar 10:27pm slugluv1313:

yes! that description of Belladonna is in at least one of my herb books!
trouble is, i think it also messed up your vision!
so sure, these ladies were all BEAUTIFUL with their misty, water-y eyes! but apparently practically blind as a side-effect!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Mind control? Where's DJ Micah at?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm Mike East:

speaking of vinyl - I got that Moody Blues record y'all recommended a couple weeks ago. Haggled him from $8 to $5.
Avatar 10:38pm slugluv1313:

ah! The Hook Man story i heard (waaaaay back in 1970s high school times)
concerned a spirit who wandered around Crematory Hill in Cranbury, NJ

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm Mike East:

Go DJ Sean!!
  11:02pm KP:

Hey there Irene!
Avatar 11:02pm Parq:

Sean! Digging the set so far. I didn't know where the name Hatfield and the North came from until I saw the highway sign in one of the last panels of Alan Moore's "V For Vendetta". Funny where these things come from sometime.
Avatar 11:04pm Parq:

I had a friend in Mass'chu who dug the band big time. He used to pronounce it "Hatfield and the Noth", of course.
  11:08pm JakeGould:

Nice Kate Bush!
  11:11pm KP:

Meteorological!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm Mike East:

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:16pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Folks, this duet, who did this originally?
  11:16pm JakeGould:

@Sean: Peter Gabriel says the magical playlist.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:20pm Sean in Bristol UK:

It was Roy Harper, we looked it up, Irene remembered straight away, bless her!
  11:35pm Tommy:

Peter Gabriel's SECURITY is a masterpiece .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36pm Irene Trudel:

Agreed, Tommy! That's one of my Favorite Peter Gabriel Albums ever.
  11:39pm Tommy:

Very underrated . People really aren't aware of it. Hasn't got the credit it deserves
  11:42pm JakeGould:

Great show tonight. And now I have to think about the green hook creep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm Irene Trudel:

Oh, and hello everybody. It's been a busy night, with a rather large band setup. Thanks to Sean for doing so much of the track listing tonight (and planning these last two sets.)
  11:53pm JakeGould:

@Irene: No problem!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am Irene Trudel:

Thanks Van! Hope it makes your workday more pleasant.
Avatar 1:01pm Van in DC:

Always!

Getting back after a break, had to rewind that first set to play again...because WOW.
Avatar 9:53am Van in DC:

Coming back for more of this show, because, you know,

KATE BUSH! (and Peter the Angel Gabriel)
Avatar 11:01am Van in DC:

Two quick notes on the "Another Day" and Roy Harper talk / references:

1. There is also an amazingly beautiful & haunting version of "Another Day" out there that was done by This Mortal Coil, featuring the incredible Liz Fraser of Cocteau Twins fame, on their outstanding 1984 LP "It'll End In Tears".

2. Roy Harper not only first wrote & did "Another Day" in which we heard the KaTe & Peter cover here on this show from KaTe's incredible BBC live Christmas show, but KaTe & Roy Harper have a wonderful little duet of their OWN out there called, simply, "You".

Awesomeness all around, and well done Sean & Irene!
