Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Grand Funk  I'm Your Captain   Options Closer To Home  Capitol   1970  LP  2:48:50 - 2:58:18 I did save this for last. Absolutely love every single thing about it, and have since I first heard it when I was 12. It informed my early rock life. I had a poster of Mark Farner in my room, in his red bellbottoms with his silver arm band on. PLEASE check out this ... the best clip imaginable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1UujH1v6WU  2:49:45 (Pop‑up)
Mountain  Nantucket Sleighride (Excerpt)   Options Mountain Live  Chrysalis  1972  LP  2:58:18 - 3:04:25 I love this Mountain Live LP. So trog-like in its fatness. Lovely. Leslie West's artistry shines big-time. Felix and that bass that makes Mel Schacher's booming GFR tone sound like its running though a LAdy Remington cordless. Sorry we went over Nick! I told him he could fade it out, but Nick Name had so much integrity that he insisted Nantucket Sleighride play to its completion. That's character!
Great Great show! Thanks so much. Best fun I've had in a while. Thank you Dave the Spazz for lending me your 3 hours. An honor, and I mean that. And playlisters and AccuJacks and Jills ... thank you for listening and for checking in. I thank you for helping me to not only have a great time - but to play some of the music I have loved from the past. What a blast to have a radio station to play them on, and an audience willing to dig it. You know really, as classic or as "common" as this music might seem, there really isn't a home for a lot of it anymore. What's left of rock radiop won't play a lot of this, so ... to me it has become underground again and endangered, to a degree, as the boomers age and their music attains nursing home status, which will transpire, and then is perceived not that differently than say, Lawrence Welk or GlennMiller in its quaintness. Remember what Daltrey sang ... hope I die before I'm old. But now he's old, and it seems he might want to hang around for a while. So, we all should then, agreed? Yes.

Thanks again and I am going to zzzzzzz. It's 3:41am on 8/29/15 as I am typing this. Still kind of zinging from what a good time I had doing this fill-in. As for The Dusty Show itself, it's in a slump. Rudderless. Without direction, or, having too much direction. It's difficult to tell. I can't see the forest for the trees as the ten-year mark approaches. I don't know if I'll be on the air when the smoke clears from the new scheduling shake-up. We will see. Enjoy the fleeting days of summer. Fall awaits ... and beyond that ... winter and the cold. I love it all. Peace dear listener. Always Remember ..... CP NYC99 22258Piaflcawiny

People like to talk shit about this era of The Rolling Stones, but I love it, so everyone can shut up. Their depressing songs from the 1970s were the best. Coming down (again) off all that coke makes particularly good melancholia.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm Parq:

Before it gets too late, let me say that I had a big debate with my friends back in the day over whether the Stones' "Hot Stuff" was disco, as per the conventional wisdom, or funk, as I had it. When "Miss You" came out, and was much more obviously in the disco form, I felt vindicated, but a prophet is without honor in his own time.
  10:18pm arrow apple:

Still appreciated. How many tracks to record that?

Terry Knight was a renowned prick but one thing I didnt know until I was looking around on Bill Kelly's page is that he used to be a dj on an influential Windsor radio station

no time for Whipping post . oh ,, maybe Elizabeth Reed..
  11:37pm Fireball meteor man:

He ripped everybody off just ask Grand Funk Guys. Don Brewer is also a bastard just ask Mark Farner.
  11:37pm Cooh John:

@Dean: MTV started with management from CKLW. Station manager Ken has worked with some former staffers.

Enough of the bad vibes from me Great Job Clay

  11:39pm Dean:

So this is the band that, according to the pro-gun lobby, we'll have to join if we want to bear arms under a regime of background checks?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm common:

Yeah Mets! Woo!
  11:40pm Fireball meteor man:

Only possible follow-up to this tune, Ivor Cutler's "Go and Sit upon the Grass."

Mets have scored 73 runs in 7 games; 19 homers. Yow. Ok. Back to Rock!
Avatar 11:42pm slugluv1313:

BLOODROCK was a favorite of my first (and only) boyfriend in high school; he would play their records in the background when we would talk on the telephone
"Green Grass and High Tides" DEFINITELY played to death, AND a huge favorite when the high school i went to would hold a "Battle of the Bands"
  11:42pm Madman Muntz:

Toledo? I had breakfast at the Big Boy at the Maumee exit.
  11:43pm Dean:

Barry Tuckwell ain't shabby, either.
  11:43pm Cooh John:

@ice in bklyn: haven't seen 'em. Have to check them out when they play Used Kids next month. Check out Carabar when you can. Always great shows.

BOA? O.M.G. You just completed my adolescent music catalog. (Than you uncle Dick.)

No one like Jim Dandy. Possibly a good thing, but there you go.

Using Jaco and Black Oak in the same sentance. A first time for everything!

“You kids know Grand Funk, right?”
  11:49pm V Priceless:

Nice job on this with the Hoof
  11:49pm Madman Muntz:

Only Grand Funk story I can think of is hearing the ads for "Time Machine" on the radio.
  11:49pm Cooh John:

My buddy got into a GFRR concert with a fake ticket made with a magic marker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm coelacanth:

grand funk & bloodrock were fairly big in my youth. my punkass friend, who was a little beyond me musically, said he wanted me to bring my records to his house and when we got there his older brother (who probably bullied on my older brother!) made fun of us for listening to "that capital crap")
  11:50pm wendy del formaggio:

Wait, Clay Pigeon, didn't you sing this at Hoof N Mouth? THAT'S my Grand Funk story! I seem to recall you kicking major ass on this one.
  11:50pm V Priceless:

and Mouth, Clay ( damn 'and' sign always gets me. Ha)
Avatar 11:50pm Andrew S:

haha magic marker. Simpler times
  11:50pm sinner:

Ahhhhh. Uriah and Bloodrock. All is right with the world and I can now sleep, perchance to ROCK....
  11:50pm Dean:

Only GFRR non-story: Time after time seeing E Pluribus Funk in the stores (KMart, Sears, local dept. stores) and a-l-m-o-s-t buying it. Never did.
  11:51pm Cooh John:

I LOVE THE PUFFY AREOLAS! Seen 'em 3x. Mike from the band is working the kitchen @ Carabar.

i have at least 3 copies of e pluribus funk, none of which i ever listen to.
...it's impossible to use an inner sleeve with that album,so old copies are inevitably crackly!
  11:55pm Cooh John:

Another friend of mine used to play this song at a piano bar in Toleo: The Commodre Perry Hotel.
  11:55pm gold e:

Be it, see it, she it.
  11:55pm JakeGould:

@Greg: One of the best compliments ever. I mean, wonder what Homer thought of Alex Van Halen in comparison.
  11:55pm Steve-O:

Hello, Clay.....great show you put on tonight! From Frisco, Texas. =)
  11:56pm oks:

i hear sounds of baby seabirds...
Avatar 11:56pm Andrew S:

If those crazy-heads that went off shooting people had listened to these songs at some point, they likely would have turned their lives around and done good things instead of the shooting. Thanks, Clay. Top-notch show tonight.
