Options Brian Turner: Playlist from August 11, 2015 Options

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Options August 11, 2015: w/ guest DJ TOM LAX from Siltbreeze Records

Listen to this show:  Pop‑up player! | Add or read comments

The annual visit from our pal Tom Lax, bringing up yet another assortment of obscuro and extremely special 7" singles wax from Siltbreeze headquarters in Philadelphia. If you've checked out this special in past years you know that you will certainly be hearing a lot of DIY/post-punk and general oddball stuff you will probably not hear anywhere else (and see as well, as we will be posting the sleeve art on the playlist page live). Not to be missed!

  3:09pm KAWOWSKI:

Loud 'n clear in Grey Lynn…!
Avatar 3:09pm fred:

Why did the hitchbot had to be dismembered in Philly? It's like they planned it to go there first

Greetings BT & T!

Greetings everybody.

@blee: I think you had a good point about Sleaford Mods, I'm glad I read it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm blee:

The Cramps, hell yeah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm blee:

Thanks Fred. I know people like to be the "first" to appreciate a good band, but it does an artist or band no good to never make a livable wage doing the work they love. I am not a fan of the whole starving artist misconseption.
Avatar 3:19pm JakeGould:

@blee: “I am not a fan of the whole starving artist misconseption.” Agreed. Tired of this precious little puppy/flower mentality in the arts. Let bands be successful; there’s no honor in obscurity or poverty.

Hello All! I liked that Airmail track. Kill the robots!
Avatar 3:26pm fred:

@JakeGould: well said. Let's get rid of that starving artist fetish, especially from people like me who are neither starving nor artists

Hello Howard is fantastic
  4:19pm Dean:

Gulcher. That's the title of a really fun Richard Meltzer book.
Avatar 4:20pm Cecile:

that's also MX-80's label from their Indiana days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm RZ:

I'm just gonna go ahead and favorite the whole episode. ;)
  4:26pm Dean:

Just for fun, I ran "gulcher" through ngram. Results appear in the 1880s (!) and then again in the 1940s, peaking right around 1972, when Meltzer first published his book, and then a steady ascent to 1992, when a revision appeared. But OED has no entry for the word.
  4:31pm KAWOWSKI:

Oh that was SWE… OK …
  4:38pm Michael:

Keep an eye out for "The Fed Up Skank" on the "Cease and Desist DIY" comp double LP coming out end of October on Optimo.

Avatar 5:51pm JakeGould:

Well, the case of the Cramps, Lux Interior is dead… So he’s doing dead now…
Avatar 5:55pm Cecile:

I'd say dead, in other bands, working day jobs or retired.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Stevel:

I'd also wager a few became born again. Happens often with those searching for truth and answers.

Did any Mecht Mensch members move on to Killdozer?
Avatar 5:58pm Cecile:

No, Tar Babies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm Stevel:

Thanks Cecile!! (We have to talk someday!) Names I recall are Robin and Jeremy Davies. Other fun folk in that scene included Linda LeSabre, later of Thrill Kill Kult.
Avatar 6:01pm Cecile:

great show, guys!
  7:53pm Thurston Hunger:

Stupid !#!@$ work has yet to recognize this as an official holiday, so listening to it finally now...

As Maxwell Smart would say
