"Aw, the waiting game sucks, let's play Hungry Hungry Hippo!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm doctorjazz:

I want some of that watermelon! Hi all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Jeff Golick:

I want to one day be as happy as that hippo (seems?).
Avatar 12:02pm ndbob:

afternoon Amanda and everyone!
Avatar 12:04pm KP:

Good Wednesday afternoon, Amanda
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Amanda:

Hey all! Glad to have you herre.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm listener james from westwood:

Helloooo, Amanda and all!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Uncle Michael:

This does not describe *this* summer in Kansas.
  12:09pm Nate K:

Did Nesmith write that Stone Poneys song, too?
Avatar 12:09pm KP:

Goin' Back indeed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Uncle Michael:

Nilsson wrote Rainmaiker with Bill Martin. You should hear Martin's solo stuff.
Avatar 12:10pm KP:

This is my favorite Byrds song because Crosby quit over it.
Avatar 12:10pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...ah - the perfect antidote to melon-cholia...
Avatar 12:12pm ndbob:

lovely version of Goin' Back
  12:13pm Dean:

Gonna hear Brinsley Schwarz with Graham Parker in September.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Jeff Golick:

If I wasn't so lazy, @Rev Rabbit, I'd link to that Billy Corgan @ Disneyland pic...
  12:14pm MONEYBAG$:

Hey Amanda, have you listened to the Gilbert Gottfried podcast w/Mike?
Avatar 12:14pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I like the faster one better - after all, what The Byrds was for were adding driving Rawk drums & electricity to wistful Folk, manner of speaking...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Amanda:

@Nate, "Wild About My Lovin'" is an old blues song that several 60s artists picked up. I love the Spoonful's version too
  12:15pm Nate K:

Cool. I don't think I know that one.
Avatar 12:18pm KP:

Anyone remember the Brinsley Schwarz phony publicity campaign.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Dominick:

I whist I had a watermelon
  12:18pm Dean:

I remember reading about it way after the fact in Birch's book.
  12:19pm Nate K:

Solid bubblegum action on this Beeds track.
Avatar 12:20pm KP:

What book is that Dean?
  12:21pm Dean:

No Sleep Till Canvey Island: http://www.amazon.com/Sleep-Till-Canvey-Island-Revolution/dp/0753507404
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Uncle Michael:

That book is excellent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm listener james from westwood:

Grace Jones! My mom's favorite Bond-film woman. (She also dug her in "Conan the Destroyer.")
Avatar 12:26pm KP:

I already ordered! But not from Amazon, too pricey. i found Birch himself sells it and i was happy to deal with the author.
Avatar 12:26pm KP:

Thanks Dean. ... And of course, Amanda!
Avatar 12:27pm bpd:

Oh good lord.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Amanda:

  12:27pm Dean:

Yes, buy it from Birch. I also picked up some curious Brinsley Schwarz live recordings direct from Ian Gomm years ago. Love 'em.

You're welcome, KP.
  12:27pm MONEYBAG$:

Am I in my lobby at work?
Avatar 12:28pm Joe B:

Hi Aamanda!
Avatar 12:28pm northguineahills:

Well, this is an odd flashback....
Avatar 12:29pm bpd:

You are a true hero, Amanda.
Avatar 12:30pm steve:

haha nice one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Mike East:

I liked this song as a kid...my sisters played the Pretty Woman soundtrack a lot
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Amanda:

Hi Jooe!

And hi to Dean, bpd, steve, KP, Dominick, Nate, everyone! I know I am missing someone. Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Amanda:

Mike East!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Jeff Golick:

Well, when *I* was in high school, this was the Go West track on the radio: en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 12:33pm Joe B:

Go West had a hit with We Close Our Eyes in the winter of 1985/1986. It is listed as only No. 41 on the Hot 100 but it was very big on MTV and was played a ton in various clubs
Avatar 12:34pm bpd:

Wiki says Go West had 3 top 40 singles in the US, including something called "Don't Look Down - The Sequel".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Jeff Golick:

Avatar 12:38pm bpd:

And now that I see it, I remember "Faithful". It was pretty bad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Mike East:

  12:38pm Nate K:

Joe, was that back in your club kid days?
Avatar 12:38pm KP:

Like Wow
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Amanda:

Thanks Joe, Jeff & bpd for filling in! I don't remember those at all, now will have to check 'em out.
Avatar 12:41pm Joe B:

ha, yes. busted me Nate!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Amanda:

Hi northguineahills, hi MB$, hi LJfW! Hi doctorjazz! Hi ndbob! Hi UM! OK, everyone else will have to consider themselves pre-greeted.
Avatar 12:43pm Joe B:

i have a feeling that we close our eyes is one of those songs that will not sound nowhere near as good as i remember it
Avatar 12:43pm KP:

In the Sky aptly named. Nice and gazy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm listener james from westwood:

Adore the guitar on this Ducktails (tough not to type "Duck Tales"!)
Avatar 12:45pm KP:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Gaylord Fields:

@Amanda: I've been lurking, but I'll de-lurk in order to a) tell you how lovely that "Into the Sky" song is, and b) get a greeting from you.
  12:47pm marianne!:

Avatar 12:48pm KP:

This single version is even Shakier
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Amanda:

Good afternoon, Gaylord!!! AND marianne! (Did you know that "Carrie-Anne" was really written about you?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Gaylord Fields:

@KP: And, being on a 45, it's also Handier.
  12:53pm Dean:

This brings to mind a much later recording by The Waybacks of Floyd Cramer's "Last Date." Well worth seeking.
Avatar 12:56pm KP:

yes, Gaylord, if have a FMU adapter available
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Gaylord Fields:

@KP: You mean you don't wear yours on a string around your neck as a talisman?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Gaylord Fields:

Which reminds me that the first time I heard Elvis sing "Won't you wear my ring around your neck?" I thought that either Elvis had sausage fingers or his gal had a pencil neck.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm listener james from westwood:

@Gaylord: Ultimately, you were half right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Amanda:

I'm glad that there's a WFMU 45 here in studio C now -- more hypnotic and swirly, esp. when paired with a 60s Capitol 45.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Gaylord Fields:

@listener james from westwood: Yes, Priscilla has been looking rather gaunt as of late.
  1:14pm P-90:

If the esteemed Gaylord can "de-lurk" so will I, just to thank Amanda for another great show and to thank Moneybags for reminding me again about that Gottfried podcast with Mike N that I keep forgetting to listen to. (Is "de-lurking" similar to "un-cloaking" on Star Trek?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Jeff Golick:

Great set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm listener james from westwood:

"Not 'It's Raining Men'"?!"
"Yeah, not no more it ain't."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Gaylord Fields:

Yay! Amanda's doing a Simpsons episode written by a high school friend of mine! That somehow makes me a Simpson, right?
  1:26pm Nate K:

This episode definitely didn't register for me as a kid, but I've come to appreciate it on many levels through the years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Gaylord Fields:

He was a not particularly funny guy IRL who turned out to be a very funny writer (I mean "not funny" as in didn't have a jokey personality, as opposed to "unfunny." i.e., corny).
  1:27pm Nate K:

Little Marge is awesome.
Avatar 1:28pm Joe B:

really dug that Crispian St. Peters cut, will have to investigate further
Avatar 1:29pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...wait, whut - not his real hat ?? Did Gilbert G. ask him about that on this ?: tracking.feedpress.it...
Avatar 1:30pm jay c:

I also have a flying problem. Show is great today, happy wednesday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Dominick:

The Nazz is nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Amanda:

@Gaylord, how cool! I do love that episode. Oh and I love that "It's Raining Men" is mentioned 3x but never played.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm listener james from westwood:

That's because that sneaky Smithers drove off with the 45!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Amanda:

The Crispian St. Peters CD set is truly worthwhile!
  1:35pm Nate K:

Maybe play the Van Halen version of "Big Bad Bill" this week?
Avatar 1:37pm KP:

the Crispin St. Peters comp is great for long drives.
Avatar 1:38pm northguineahills:

I have no problem w/ the part of being in the plane once it's in motion, I have a big problem w/ the process of flying. Sleeping over night multiple times on the floor at the Atlanta airport, having flight's cancelled, and being stuck, having flights delayed so you miss the connecting flight, and the one time my flight was delayed 12 hours, so I ended up drinking the whole time w/ college kids, ran into a friend of mine I hadn't seen since HS, she was flying first class, and I went on board w/ her. She went to the bathroom, and the flight crew asked for my ticket, and noticed I wasn't flying first class, so they brought the cops to escort me off the plane. They interrogated me on the tarmac in a bus for an hour, and took my driver's license. Missed the flight, and had to buy a new ticket. Yeah, that's why I hate flying.
Avatar 1:38pm KP:

The Blog label is big on 'Gaze.
Avatar 1:46pm ndbob:

@NGH sheesh
Avatar 1:49pm Joe B:

wow, great Zimmy cover!
  1:51pm Dean:

There's a reason, ngh, travel and travail share roots. I hate travel. In addition to the logistical nightmares, it's a second-rate substitute for reading.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Amanda:

I know, I was so happy it sounded good because I knew I was gonna play it no matter what (the Zimmy)
Avatar 1:54pm northguineahills:

What Joe said...
  1:56pm KP:

Thanks Amanda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks for helping me get the dishes done, Amanda. Time flew, stress-free!
Avatar 1:57pm ndbob:

excellent show Amanda!
Avatar 1:57pm northguineahills:

Thanks Amanda, good times!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm listener james from westwood:

I've heard the Simpsonized version of this so often via this show that I expect it to take an Elfman turn at any moment!
Thanks muchly for the fine show!
  1:57pm josh:

Enjoy your death-trap, ladies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Dominick:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm listener james from westwood:
