Listener comments!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm fleep:

Lunch never sleeps.
  3:02pm Wild Neil:

Hey guys!
  3:03pm Wild Neil:

Congress voted they can take anybody's US passport any time without a hearing! Watch out now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm Alison Porchnik:

Surveillance with avocado or surveillance with bacon?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm common:

avocado surveillance, please!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Ike:

You really have to watch those avocados. They're mostly from Mexico, and you know what that means. When Mexico sends its avocados, they're not sending their best. They're sending avocados that have lots of problems. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good avocados.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm fleep:

Eternal vigilance is the price of guacamole.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Ah...Small Change the Tom Waits album, not $mall ¢hange the DJ.
  3:07pm Listener Robert:

Is the idea that the 2 cut sandwiches look like faces?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Alison Porchnik:

Apparently no one knows how to respond to your question.
  3:11pm Wild Neil:

I, for one, am flabbergasted.
  3:12pm Dean:

Rorschach panini
  3:13pm Laura L:

@ Robert--it's inexplicable; a deli in the West Village put that sign up on the side of their building and I snapped photo of it. All I can say with any certainty is I would not do anything weird in front of those sandwiches.
Avatar 3:13pm Basil Garnish:

...surveillance is delish when sautéed just so...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm fleep:

Every bite you take ... every slice you make ... they are watching you.
  3:16pm Wild Neil:

Your diet is watching YOU. Turnabout is fair play!
Avatar 3:16pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

..we are talking *all-night* nitrates @ this rate...
  3:17pm Dean:

If you can't do anything weird in front of a sandwich, then what can you do?
Avatar 3:18pm Claw!:

Vigilant mealtime
  3:18pm Wild Neil:

Gubbish sounds like Zappa at some points,...
  3:21pm Dean:

Sloppy Joe?
Avatar 3:23pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...if caught stealing, wages will be garnished...
Avatar 3:23pm Irwin:

W. Neil: I read somewhere they're a cross between Zappa and Sun Ra. That seems apt.
Avatar 3:24pm Irwin:

And what do Zappa and Sun Ra have in common? Tom Wilson.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Alison Porchnik:

And Tom Wilson loved sandwiches. Full circle.
Avatar 3:30pm Irwin:

And Tom Wilson's favorite color was orange -- like the meat in them samwitches.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm common:

ha! alison!
  3:33pm phat:

This Stephen Fierce is really, really good. Thank you. I vaguely remember hearing it before, but I have no idea when or where.
Avatar 3:35pm Irwin:

Phat: Been airing a lot, it's new (OK, I lied). Probably hard to find, it doesn't even have a bar code. But some great stuff. He was influenced by R. Stevie Moore and Ariel Pink.
  3:38pm phat:

Ah, that makes sense. This Humphreys and Keen is really good, too!
  3:39pm Wild Neil:

Dear Irwin-I was luck enough to see Su Ra at that nighclub that used to be in Hoboken. I tell him "you are better than the Grateful Dead.". And he goes "Yeah, we are the "Grateful LIVING"...
  3:39pm Wild Neil:

This is unbelievably bad....ug....
Avatar 3:40pm cee:

now this (Ebenholz und Elfenbein), this is my jam
  3:42pm JakeGould:

Nothing speaks better to race relations in the world than a high functioning German musician singing “Ebony & Ivory” off key.
  3:43pm chrissss:

greetings from london. just tuned in and i am loving it. couldn't agree more with JakeGould :0>
  3:46pm anonymous coward:

someone needs to throw some googly eyes on that sandwitch sign
  3:51pm JakeGould:

@anonymous coward: That’s an extra 50 cents per sandwich.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Alison Porchnik:

Hail Beans!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm rrg:

  4:02pm Hoboken Jack:

  4:03pm scott:

I'm quite certain these pants fit the normal distribution
  4:05pm MONEYBAG$:

Irwin! I received that marathon prize that you autographed...it's still in the ziploc bag, tacked to my wall.
Avatar 4:07pm Irwin:

MONEY: what was it? Memory fails.
  4:08pm MONEYBAG$:

a DVD of one of your favorite artists
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm chris:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Alison Porchnik:

This is brilliant!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Ike:

Wow, I really enjoy Clay Pigeon's music creations even though I don't dig many of his musical selections as a DJ.
  4:14pm MONEYBAG$:

By coincidence I got this CD as well, as my prize vault item
  4:15pm Listener Robert:

Ken played the same w/o the music this AM.
Avatar 4:15pm steve:

i agree Ike
Avatar 4:16pm Irwin:

This part sounds familiar, but I didn't hear the music on Ken's show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm rrg:

This gets better the longer it goes on.
  4:17pm Ava:

Is Clay OK? Ken played his music this morning, and now this...usually on WFMU I only hear the same artist multiple times in one day if they've died
  4:17pm chrissss:

I wanna go to Shakeys!
Avatar 4:17pm Irwin:

Ava: Far as we know, Clay is fine. Some of us are just discovering his marathon CD bonus disc.
  4:19pm Ava:

Ahh, ok. That makes sense. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm rrg:

I didn't get that. I didn't know to get it. No one told me "you must get this".
  4:20pm phat:

That Clay track was funny but it made me very uncomfortable. It was very Bob and Ray or Vic and Sade.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Ike:

That was like a non-insulting, non-condescending, actually funny version of Prairie Home Companion. So, not like Prairie Home Companion at all, really.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm rrg:

More from Hans Fenger? I don't have this either.
Avatar 4:20pm Ryab:

I still haven't gotten my swag and stuff. :<
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm common:

love me some clay
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm rrg:

I got my big box of stuff a week or two ago. It wouldn't have been a box except there had to be room for that big book (first prize I ever won during a marathon).
Avatar 4:27pm Jeff:

I just got my swag this afternoon! (Joe walked the box to my desk upstairs in lieu of mailing.)
  4:29pm chrissss:

That mis-cue made me miss John Peel- happy days
Avatar 4:30pm Roberto:

Beans :(
Avatar 4:30pm Ryab:

Well I hope it comes in, I don't think I missed a monthly payment. Oh well XP
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm chris:

i'm still waiting, too, Ryab, if it makes you feel better ;-)
Avatar 4:36pm Ryab:

It does.
Avatar 4:42pm Joe McG:

Hang in there, Ryab and chris, we're sending every day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm chris:

Thanks, Joe!
  4:43pm Tony Seymour:

Took a break from my Waikiki walks to hear the show.....walking two miles to Diamond Head and over the shore......never triple digits.....90 every day.....water is 82.......still unrelenting tropical summer heat......had to take a walking break....just burning up.......Yo Iriwin & the gang.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm rrg:

What time is it there over there in the islands?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Īke:

Got my swag a few days ago. Thanks volunteers, thanks Joe McG, thanks Scott W. et al.
Avatar 4:45pm Irwin:

Aloha, Tony.
  4:47pm Tony Seymour:

10:45 in the morning......Irwin starts here at 9am......Ken at 3am......i go on east coast time....imagine Sunday MORNING football.....drives you nuts..
Avatar 4:49pm Ryab:

@Joe McG: Thanks for chimin in Joe! This was my first marathon so I don't know the drill. Thanks for the reassurance.
  4:49pm Tony Seymour:

Aloha indeed Irwin.....might have to listen to the archives starting next week as if you don't get out early you just bake here in the summers......
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm rrg:

The Whirleys!
  4:50pm phat:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Rich in Washington:

Bob and Ray's comedy was so ahead of its time. Still hilarious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm rrg:

I saw Bob and Ray do this bit and many others at Carnegie Hall in 1984, right after I moved to this fine metropolitan area. Very memorable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm rrg:

I must confess that I sometimes have mixed feelings about Brian's stuff, but I'm warming to it. This is great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Rich in Washington:

My parents loved their humor. So much of my parents interactions seemed like a Bob and Ray routine. I don't know for sure if that's a good thing.
  4:55pm Hoboken Jack:

Friends-of-Dewan Life in a Blender will perform this Sunday, 7 pm, at the Goat-Stock fundraiser at the Jersey City Harsimus Cemetery.
Avatar 4:55pm Irwin:

Come to the Monty Hall show, RRG. It will be most entertaining and droll.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm rrg:

It's definitely a good thing, Rich.
Avatar 4:58pm Irwin:

Thanks to rrg for the Bert.
  4:58pm JakeGould:

Hey. Check out this gal who hates minions. www.youtube.com...
Avatar 5:06pm Jeff:

I have a big warm spot for Bob and Ray. They were pretty much the only thing on radio *mumble* decades ago which my dad and I both enjoyed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm rrg:

Years after their heyday I did listen to Bob and Ray albums (they made a few) in my Dad's presence and he really loved what he heard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm rrg:

This is especially nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm rrg:

I think that, strictly speaking, a "ballad" has words. But I know what you mean. Also, I could be wrong. Also, LL, a better wordsmith than I, is here today and might speak to that.
Avatar 5:46pm Irwin:

Ballad is a slow tempo that teenagers find boring.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm chris:

teenage boy bands excepted
Avatar 5:53pm Irwin:

Those are the tracks often skipped. I speak as an ex-teen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm rrg:

Thank you, Mr. Irwin, for another fine program today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Indeed! Thanks, Irwin.
  6:01pm jan:

Thanks Irwin. Time to turn off wfmu.
  6:02pm P-90:

Thanks, Irwin!
  6:02pm Listener Robert:

You could've mentioned WFMU's affiliate program w Amazon, Irwin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm rrg:

This is different from dead air. I'm sure it is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I'm going to hazard a guess that tonight's secret word is "no show."
