Bradley's Barn was the recording studio of producer Owen Bradley.
Avatar 1:10am Mugsy:

this is fantastic
  1:10am flashback:

I have only heard the Phil Harris version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11am Guido from Cologne:

Any one an idea what "the thing" is?
Avatar 1:11am Bill Mac:

I used to have the Phil Harris version. I found this on my iPod
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13am Ike:

Hi Bill. Hmm, "The Thing" seems to go along with George Jones's "Her Name is (___)" in the pantheon of songs about fill-in-the-blank subjects. Anyone know any others?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14am Guido from Cologne:

Tons of risque "fill in" sings of course.
(I only remeber German ones right now.)
  1:14am Lee Reed:

I know it shouldn't matter but I can't help but think of how Moe Tucker's a republican
Avatar 1:15am Bill Mac:

I smell a great idea for an FMU premium. Need more than two songs however
  1:17am Lee Reed:

Would say "the gift" but we all know what's inside...
Avatar 1:18am Bill Mac:

@Lee I do remember that every time I pull Moe's albums.....
Ahhhhh, The Gift... My fave VU cut
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19am Guido from Cologne:

Best German risque-fill-in example is Schlager Parody "Oh Susie - The censored song" by Frank Zander 1977
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22am Guido from Cologne:

... the record itself sounds better of course ...

Me encanta esa cancion
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23am Īke:

Of course, there's the brilliant Scott Williams remix of that one John Denver song, but maybe that doesn't count -- censored (or faux-censored) bits aren't really the same as an intentionally blank subject.
Avatar 1:25am Bill Mac:

Yo IX!
Avatar 1:26am Bill Mac:

I haven't seen that one floating around these parts
  1:28am Lee Reed:

Does Harry Nilsson's "Good Old Desk" count?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29am Ike:

  1:31am rw:

How about Blank Generation?
  1:32am rw:

I know. There's not really a blank...
  1:36am Lee Reed:

Killer set so far.

I've been thinking about managing my college's radio station but it seems like a daunting amount of responsibility.

Frankly, I like the ones there are better than the metric fuck-ton of Johnny Thunders albums.
Avatar 1:42am Bill Mac:

@Lee, this is it for me.... Come and go like a cockroach, sometimes play good music in between....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43am pacific standard simon:

Did Nilsson record this after he'd heard Davy Jones sing some of his songs?

Thanks ! I X Key !

Nice thing about BBQ in the UK -- if you have a flare-up, the weather deals with it.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12am pacific standard simon:

Slim Jims are the friend of all late-night people (except the vegetarians).

Radio appearances are all very well, but seeing the Mekons live is on my bucket list. I HAVE seen Jon Langford many times, including once with Sally Timms.
Avatar 2:15am Jay/London:

good morning Bill can stay for a hour before I go to work
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16am pacific standard simon:

I believe Jon joked about Sally farting.
Avatar 2:16am Bill Mac:

Given the endless variety of heavy processed meat products, are Slim Jims still the Beef Jerky of choice?
Avatar 2:17am Bill Mac:

Hey Jay, yeah, appreciate you showing up on a work day. All of you for that matter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18am pacific standard simon:

Avatar 2:30am w41:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35am pacific standard simon:

I've read the Captain's biography, and I've read Zoot's autobiography, and I've read Drumbo's autobiography, and I have to say -- if you want to enjoy the Beefheart music without angst and profoundly mixed feelings, do not read these books. Beefheart was a dick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36am Fran:

Mornin' night watchmen all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39am pacific standard simon:

Given how many times French mentions losing his drum kits in his book, I have a hard time believing that he still owns any part of the Trout Mask Replica drums.
  2:40am Michael and Birgit:

Good Morning from Cologne,
after a long Time , here we are. Glad to hear you back on the net. Work starting in 30 Minutes… Bela`s starting school next week.
Bill, you should check out the art show "Geniale Dilettanten" at Haus der Kunst in Munich. There are a lot of exiting Links on the webpage. It`s about whats happening in West Berlin 1981 in Art and Music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42am pacific standard simon:

Why o why did nobody tell me about Zzzzzzero Hour when it was a part of the regular schedule?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45am pacific standard simon:

Instantly recognizable voice!
  2:46am Emile:

Arg, just arrived. Better late than never -- but it's gonna be an archive show for me! Hey all!
Avatar 2:47am Bill Mac:

M&B Glad to hear you're still in the loop. Sounds odd that Bela is going to school in the middle of the summer. Different over here.
Avatar 2:47am Bill Mac:

Emile! How you doon?!
Avatar 2:47am Jay/London:

sorry have to get out the door try a catch you on Sunday bill
have a good rest
Avatar 2:48am Bill Mac:

Thanks Jay, I'll talk to you next week.
  2:50am Michael and Birgit:

Yes, winter would be better to start… , but it will be a big family event with friends and music and food in the garden. For me it´s a good break from studio work on our album… to see the sun !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50am Fran:

Just scrolled down (up?) the playlist Bill - glad to see some Budgie - underrated music for cool cats! I've been playing a lot of their competitors for top Welsh band - Man. Live at the Padgett Rooms, Penarth is amazing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51am pacific standard simon:

What Beefheart was doing to the members of his bands is laid out in this article about the Milgram Experiment.

  2:51am rw:

Thank you Bill Mac! And don't think I didn't catch the Richard Hell. Smooth.
Avatar 2:52am w41:

Yup, thanks Bill, see you Sunday!
  2:52am JoeRay:

Zappa seemed to put up with a lot of shit from Beefheart over the years. At least Beefheart rekindled their friendship before Zappa's death.
Avatar 2:55am Bill Mac:

@rw thanks for the inspiration
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55am Fran:

Good show Bill - will catch more on the archive. As Johnny Cash might have said - I hear a kettle calling. Hope to catch you for at least a part of Sunday's programme. Bye all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55am Stanley:

Hi Fran. Loved Man. Can remember seeing Sasafrass at Reading back in the day. Have to check them out again
Avatar 2:56am Bill Mac:

We always end up at the end of the show... anyway, with any luck I'll see you Sunday morning bright -n-early. have a good work week, stay cool!
Avatar 2:57am Bill Mac:

MAN! Let's take that up on Sunday!
  2:57am Michael and Birgit:

Bill, hear you back on sunday…For you also a good week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58am Stanley:

Well, Bill, it's been a bit of a strange start to a Monday morning. Hopefully, I won't be so grumpy as I normally am at this time of the week. Very much looking forward to next Sunday. Have a good week. And bye all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59am pacific standard simon:

Beefheart rekindled their friendship many times, when it was convenient for him. Zappa may have put up with it because he regarded Beefheart as a developmentally disabled child.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05am pacific standard simon:

If that sounds harsh, I'm sorry, but no one who ever worked with Don Vliet ever had anything different to say about the experience, regardless of how good the music was.
