Avatar 9:21am Mayuko:

thank you doca!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am Ken From Hyde Park:

During the opening, my daughter (12), asked what I was listening to and I said it's The Yips. She said "Oh yeah, from Sesame Street.". Famous in all generations, I guess.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am sphere:

  9:44am John W:

Love the console organ. Very snappy!
Avatar 9:45am βrian:

I there should be a standard bed-head premium with a collage of all the WFMU bed music.
Avatar 9:45am βrian:

"I think there should be," that is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am Stevel:

[sitting-at-desk-ovation for pen play]
  9:48am Mike Noble Mobile:

Jackie Davis also famously gave us the sausage making song ("Manana (is soon enough for me)") from the Seinfeld episode "The Blood."
Avatar 9:49am Joe McG:

@Brian: Good idea! @Mike: Really??
Avatar 9:50am bobdoesthings:

@Brian/Joe - I second that idea! I love so much of the bed music.. and sometimes feel like 'that dude' always asking for what the bed music is..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am Ken From Hyde Park:

Where does one sign up to join the pen-clicking orchestra?
Avatar 9:52am Joe McG:

@Ken: Auditions will be at Monty Hall tonight at 7.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am Brian in UK:

How about uncapped fountain pens that can double as abstract art works. Bit messy but hey...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am Kelly Jones:

I'm up, I'm having coffee, I'm doing WFMU Bookkeeping listening to the dulcet sounds of JOE MCG! All is right with the world!
  9:55am Mike Noble Mobile:

Really! https://youtu.be/HC8io6MG5A8
Avatar 9:55am quinn:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am Brian in UK:

Apparently Jackson Pollack used a turkey baster on his early Fifties work, so a fountain pen is minimalist Pollack.
Avatar 9:56am Joe McG:

KJ is in the house, woo hoo!
  9:56am Mike Noble Mobile:

It's that episode that makes me wonder sometimes if I have become Kramer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am Brian in UK:

Pop is alive. Lovin' it, Joe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am MD:

I Am Dust...I liked that!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am Marcel M:

@Mike Noble: I recently re-watched that! (for the millionth time) So amazing. One of my faves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am MD:

Oh wait I ment to say...Cryin for love....but I am also dust...,
Avatar 9:59am bobdoesthings:

@brian UK - well technically it's not minimalist pollack.. it's like small-scale.. and if it's a fountain pen.. perhaps not pollack but Ralph Steadman?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am mariano:

What song is this Cold Beat reminding me of? Something by X? Or Echo Beach?
Avatar 10:00am Joe McG:

Mariano! Did you just say "Echo Beach"? Wow, I just happen to have something with me today....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am mariano:

Ruh roh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am Brian in UK:

@bobdoesthings I like it, was just throwing it out there like Mr. P. If it sticks, it is probably something brown and tacky.

The turkey baster is mightier than the pen on my canvas" Captain Beefheart.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Brian in UK:

Joe. Are The Drongos Australian? It is an Aussie term of derision
Avatar 10:13am Joe McG:

@Brian: Kiwis, actually!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am mariano:

Oh wow, the backing track -- Now I have something to sing along to in the shower!
Avatar 10:18am duke:

Favorite Kinks song. I'll just sing along.
Luckily for you, you can't hear me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am Uncle Michael:

Aussie is only a term of derision in New Zealand.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Brian in UK:

Sad news about the death of Nick Cave's son.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Uncle Michael:

Choir redaction...that's new.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@duke: likewise w/ my voice
...earlier a few tunes that sounded like 'Freedom of Choice' by Devo, but were actually someone *using* freedom of choice, which is better...
...& my least fave Radiohead song...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am mariano:

Wait, now I'll never know *what* special she is!
Avatar 10:26am Joe McG:

Thanks to Irwin for the helpful choir removal!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am mariano:

I'm guessing it's "so very special."

Avatar 10:31am Jesse K:

I'm with you on radiohead
Avatar 10:31am βrian:

You're a special kind of radiohead fan, Joe.
  10:31am Listener Robert:

Somebody, please explain to me what went on there, with choir "redaction" or "removal". I heard a choir singing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am Uncle Michael:

There was an FCC-unfriendly word expurgated.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am mariano:

What does drongo mean, by the way?
Avatar 10:33am V Priceless:

I actually didn't dig the Kinks choral thing - seemed kinda uninspired and flat...maybe it's me....and I'm a kard-karrying Kinks nut.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am Brian in UK:

@mariano Thicko, twat, eejit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@VP: I liked that show - esp. the Village Green bits - not sure I'll listen often...maybe I'd agree on another pass...
Avatar 10:36am PKNY:

Good TZAG, Joe and everybody! The B-side wins on this Winstons 45, that's for sure!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am Greg from Bloomfield:

Morning, gang!
Just in time for Single File. Nailed it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am Uncle Michael:

The Amen break is coming!
Avatar 10:37am PKNY:

@UM - Joe should drop the record player to 33 during the break for the Ultimate Beats and Break experience.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Uncle Michael:

And there it was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Greg from Bloomfield:

@Uncle Michael: It's weird hearing it at regular speed...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am mariano:

Thanks Brian! Now I have something to use on my friends in Sydney!
  10:38am Cooh John:

Hallelujah brother Joe, play it.
Swag For Life Member 10:38am tadpoles:

Drongo - originally "Strine" but also used in eNz - meaning "idiot" "twit" - nicer than "wanker".
  10:39am Listener Robert:

Oh -- removal FROM, not removal OF, choir track. Yeah, that redaction I heard.
Avatar 10:40am V Priceless:

@ Rev R: I should revisit too - hard for me to frown on any Kinks product.
Avatar 10:40am Joe McG:

@Robert: I always want to keep the FCC happy!
Avatar 10:41am Cecile:

Don't call people drongos unless you mean it.
I got called on it when I was down there when I was a teen for overusing it.
Avatar 10:41am Green Mountain Man Mark:

Loving this zaney wacky morning drive by show.
  10:43am Nate K:

This really sounds like the Black Crowes.
Avatar 10:43am Joe McG:

@Nate: Ha! You mean they sound like Rusty Weir!
  10:43am Nate K:

Also, for the record, I like the Black Crowes...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am mariano:

Point taken Cecile. When I was there 10 years ago my friends had a great time befuddling me with their slang. At a party, they kept announcing to everyone that I'd never been dacked before, and they wouldn't tell me what it meant, till at some point in the drunken proceedings someone came up to me from behind and hoisted down my jeans. Now you've been dacked, they said, and we drank a toast.
  10:44am Nate K:

And, yes, that is what I meant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Gotta say Waterloo backing was lovely & Nick DeCaro doing Caroline justice in other than Wilson voice stylee was both gorgeous & 'enlightening'.
Avatar 10:46am Joe McG:

@Nate: Rusty is happy!
  10:48am Brendan:

Oh there's the remote control I was looking for it
Avatar 10:48am Cecile:

Sounds like something from A Mighty Wind.
  10:50am Brendan:

There's a good reggae version called Cinna'mon
Avatar 10:51am Parq:

Satan said cinnamon, come right in?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am Greg from Bloomfield:

hi Joe. i just listened to your dj premium yesterday and it is fan freakin tastic.
  11:16am Claw!:

Thanks, Folks. I appreciate the well-wishes. <3 I am alive.
I'm not entirely sure what's going on. Been fighting off a fever since Monday night, lots of pain all over, non-stop headache, stiff neck... They determined it was likely viral, but there's really no tests for determining what virus, specifically. I got bitten my something on Sat, and they tested for Lyme. Results won't come back for 5 days. They started me on antibiotics for it anyway, just to be on the safe side - if it comes back positive, I'll have to keep taking this shit for at least another month. :-P Fun stuff.
Avatar 11:16am Joe McG:

@steve: Thanks, man, that means a lot!

  11:21am John Arthur:

  11:21am Claw!:

Thanks, Joe - me, too. Lyme would suck so bad.
Avatar 11:23am MenfussMike:

damn Claw. have you noticed a bulls eye rash? sign of lyme although it doesnt show up in all cases. Good that you are being proactive on treatment. antibiotics are key early. if untreated you are chronic. hang in there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am mariano:

Best of luck, Claw!, hang in there.

Sheesh Claw!, and here I'm guessing it was bad meatloaf! You did the smart thing being proactive with the ER - hoping you are on course for a speedy resolution of whatever it is! : )

  11:29am Claw!:

Thank you, Mariano. :)

@Menfuss - No, no bull's-eye rash - was checking the bite to see if I'd notice it starting, but it's just a red spot. Looks a lot like a mosquito bite. I was kind of suspecting that I might've contracted West Nile.

Hahah, V! Meatloaf is usually the cure to my ailments. Maybe I should rub some on the bug bite...

  11:43am Claw!:

Go for it, Joe. I got your back.
Avatar 11:45am Joe McG:

@Claw: Ha! Fortunately, I'm running short on time and Meatloaf's songs are all long. Lucky ducks!
  11:45am Brendan:

I encourage all the listeners to experience some weirdness

Speaking of glitchy audio signals, this just in from the Y of CSN&Y: http://www.engadget.com/2015/07/15/neil-young-music-streaming/

wow this is good. Did this come out before the Carpenters?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am doctorjazz:

Hi all, schedule change, heard some of the show in the car, liked the girl set and the Kinks, now catching up with what I heard, will listen to the archive for the rest.

I wonder why all the covers of this song use the cowardly carpenters title "Superstar," rather than the original title, "Groupie."
Avatar 11:47am Joe McG:

Nice to see you, doctor....Have a nice trip, KP!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am nickybones:

digging this! i mean, she's no Thurston Moore, but... :D
  11:48am Dean:

Less cowardly than the Stones' "Star Star."
  11:48am Claw!:

Next time, Joe. Hit em with some "Rock n Roll Dreams Come Through." Anyone whines, I'm breakin' legs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am doctorjazz:

@Dean-went to the Young post, have to say, he and his folks know good sound. Despite all the naysayers, the little Pono is an awesome sounding music playing candy bar.
Avatar 11:51am Cecile:

Anyone else singiing it is "groupie". The Carpenters are always going to be "Superstar". Theirs is the one that has the stalker/delusional quality to it.

Tough break, Claw! I suggest some hookworms therapy. Consult dr. efd's archives from last night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am Brian in UK:

Joe, do you ever play Lesley Duncan?
  11:53am KP:

Thanks Joe.
  11:53am Dean:

@doctorjazz: I have always appreciated his stand against digital and bad sound, but I've never actually sampled his work on a decent system. I am *very* skeptical about the ability of the much-touted Meyer Sound systems to deliver the goods. Seems way too complex to me. I should know, too, 'cuz I once had a beer with one of the Meyer engineers.
Avatar 11:53am Joe McG:

@Brian: Maybe I have! I'll have to check!
Avatar 11:53am bobdoesthings:

Thanks JOE! Great show! thanks so much!

Great show, Joe. Time for a birthday beverage.
  11:55am Claw!:

@Cken - Ooh, yeah! Good lookin out - I was hating life in the waiting room while that was going on. I will definitely go to the archives to check that out, right after I catch up on the first two hours of this show.
Avatar 11:55am Joe McG:

@KP: Yes, a sombrero, of course! @Brian: Your birthday??? Have a happy one, sir!

Thanks for listening and commenting, all! Have a fun weekend and everybody be healthy!
