A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

first an african american president now marriage equality. i must be a million years old to have lived thru such momentous wonderfuls!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06am Guido from Cologne:

Hello Trouble und guten TZAG everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am ausmanx:

i don't understand why it's good to have an African American president if race relations are worse than they were ten years ago and US foreign policy is more brutal and irrational than ever?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Marriage equality never should have been a question Constitutionally. We need the money out of elections & government ('Citizens United').
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am Webhamster Henry:

What's todays' rainbow-free picture, Trouble?
Avatar 9:13am DeemerDave:

Ugh! I come here to get away from politics for awhile. Can we chat about the Women's World Cup, music, or something else?

Avatar 9:16am pierre:

Bonjour Trouble !

Congrats on the weddings americans !

Also, merci pour la musique
Avatar 9:16am Trouble:

i believe part of the problem with US race relations (and women, as we will see once the race heats up with hillary) is when the perceived group in power sees changes they push back with a last blast of fearful feeling of powerlessness. Obama has rec'd the most virulent hatred from republicans because they see him as a game changer and they don't want the game changed...
Avatar 9:19am djsheilab:

Amen sister!
Avatar 9:19am DeemerDave:

So tell me more about Brenda Holloway
  9:20am John Arthur:

What Trouble said, plus it's important for the next generation of kids to see some non-white males in powerful positions, that way they know anyone can aspire (with some tangible chance of success) to do great things

I've never really got on with Patrick Watson, liked him on the Cinematic Orchestra album, but this is great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Someone plotted out dots Red & Blue of how Congress voted over several decades - & the two parties have just flown apart: there is no bipartisan cooperation to solve problems - it is pure politics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am SeanG:

Hello World!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am ausmanx:

sure, DeemerDave, shut down a topic because you don't want to talk about it. that's a political statement in itself. and it seems all kids have seen is non-white males ascending to power and being able to do the most appalling things as well as the white males do (and of course, Hillary can demonstrate that women can do it too, just like Margaret Thatcher did). i am unashamed to talk about politics
  9:27am John Arthur:

That being said, I'm kind of liking Bernie Sanders so far. Just sayin
Avatar 9:28am bobdoesthings:

good morning
Avatar 9:29am Trouble:

bernie's from vermont, what's not to like?
Avatar 9:30am DeemerDave:

ausmanx: How can I possibly "shut down" a topic? Typical political hyperbole. I just asked to avoid political discussion and you accuse me of censorship. Ludicrous.
Avatar 9:34am quinn:

My kid loves the show this morning. Lots of head bopping.
Avatar 9:35am Polyus:

I love that John Waters comp, haven't heard it in a long time.

And now you can also be tired of Chris Christie too! I play Gaylord's Your Meter Is Running premium all the time.
Avatar 9:40am Trouble:

i've been tired of chris christie for a very long time now!!!
  9:40am violet:

Historically, marriage has been a contract between two men concerning the ownership of a woman, backed up by the power of the state. Somehow people seem to have forgotten that and decided that marriage is a public declaration of love between two people.
Avatar 9:41am bobdoesthings:

I don't blame you trouble.. I could see myself rocking this for several weeks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

That too: When did election season become perpetual?
- & yes: the meaning & definition of Marriage has always changed.
  9:42am a listener:

oh DeemerDave, if this 'used to be' your favourite program, then I'm afraid you weren't paying attention. Trouble often deals with political stuff. The fact we tend to agree with her, is actually irrelevant to the hive mind ridiculing your comment. Peace, indeed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am Greg from Bloomfield:

Morning, gang!
  9:43am Andre:

ohh Trouble. Only you to play Tom Zé!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I can't blame him for wanting respite in music.

  9:46am John Arthur:

If the chat bothers you, you can just listen to the music and not read the chat lol
Avatar 9:47am Trouble:

good call violet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Webhamster Henry:

As I recall, election season became perpetual with Jimmy Carter, who was a very outside chance candidate who started running long before the 1976 election.
  9:47am a listener:

@RRNov63 but, then, he could ignore the board and just listen. He made a point of saying that. He could have just listened. The politics is on here, not on the air - apart from a comment welcoming marriage equality. If he has a problem with that, well tough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am ausmanx:

the most fundamental part of my politics at this venerable age is the intelligent questioning of groupthink. but one fears this is becoming less and less acceptable... incidentally, Trouble, you know i love the show and that's why i'm still here! but Rabbit, we did have an excellent exchange a while back about whether to vote or not, didn't we?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yes - my own inclination is to communicate about it all
- unless I start to feel bludgeoned by someone's proselytizing. One hopes for more light than heat. I value people who care enuff to pay attention & also interact about it - how else to learn? I understand wanting a break sometimes, though.
  9:53am a listener:

@ausmanx I have a problem with the unquestioning acceptance of a failed socio-political economic system far more than I have with a group of people agreeing on something on a message board.
Avatar 9:54am bobdoesthings:

this might be the best set ever... killing it trouble! <3 thanks
Avatar 9:54am Trouble:

thanks for that link andre!!
  9:55am a listener:

yes, the music is as always wonderful Trouble. Perfect for the sweltering heat we have here at the moment.
Avatar 9:56am Trouble:

merci bien peeps!
  9:57am chris:

This makes the summer seem so ominous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am ausmanx:

obviously true, listener, the trouble is most people get their unquestioning acceptance from places like messageboards! and we in the southern hemisphere would love some sweltering right now...
  9:59am Hot Bar:

Hi Trouble, hey all. Hey what's that French man bird songs stuff?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am Andrew Waterloo:

Are you sure "unquestioning acceptance" simply isn't stuff you disagree with and don't respect people for believing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am Adrian in London:

Now *here's* a great politics story: bloke from Hackney starts a crowdfunding appeal to sort out the Greek bailout: "All we need is 1.6 billion euros!" and it's gathering steam. www.indiegogo.com...
Avatar 10:00am bobdoesthings:

speaking of how great this set is.. I went to clicky-star this one.. IT'S ALREADY CLICKY-ED ... FMU is reading my thoughts now..
  10:01am a listener:

@ausmanx they're obviously using the wrong message boards then! :D
And it's winter down under, I'd have thought you'd be glad of some respite from the endless heat.

hey sugarwolf! where did you read that francoise has quit music?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@chromaphone: & programs - & episodes - & DJs - & the rest of us...
Avatar 10:08am northguineahills:

ahmed malek, new to me and perfectly sad (albeit lyricless).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am ausmanx:

trouble is, the Greeks don't need a bailout, they need a default. if they get the bailout money, it goes straight back to the French and German banks and does nothing for the Greeks (best to read Joe Stiglitz on that one)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Sets really are impeccable.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am Greg from Bloomfield:

Even I wouldn't vote for Chris Christie, and I am a spinning New Jersey globe.
Avatar 10:45am Polyus:

I had a very similar level of schadenfreude when our a-hole Governor Tim Pawlenty was left at the altar by John McCain in 2008, and fell into subsequent obscurity.
  10:45am a listener:

yeah, but Yellow River was a great song....
  10:45am Mark:

I think he's one of those guys who seems like a real straight-shooter, then you get to know him and you realize he's totally full of shit. This is why they say one of the states he's going to have real trouble in is New Jersey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I like Christie because he makes being stuck up here in NewHampshuh seem better.
Avatar 10:47am chromaphone:

I wish Plantasia would get released on Cd.
  10:48am JakeGould:

Gotta give Chris Christie credit. I mean that guy is utterly shameless in his lying. It’s like a modern day version of Boss Tweed. And he’s fat too! Maybe if he became president he would use NASA to shuttle pork roll sandwiches to him?
Avatar 10:48am Berg:

as Fallon puts it "his popularity is so low, he's the only guy in New Jersey who doesn't know a guy"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am Webhamster Henry:

I'm 3 degrees away from Christie, and Mr. 2 degrees, I'm told, is distancing himself from him as much as possible.

It's always nice to hear some cello.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am Patrick:

would love to see this blowhard get whats coming...

Good morning from sunny San Diego! Went piñata hunting in Tijuana, but did not find any Donald Trump ones. Wonder if there is a Chris Christie one? Would take a lotta candy to fill it.
  10:50am JakeGould:

@WebhamsterHenry: 3 degrees away from Christie? You mean based on the curvature of the Earth? Because that guy is fat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am Webhamster Henry:

WFMU should get piñatas to go with its Black velvet gallery.
Avatar 10:50am chromaphone:

Trouble this Garson track sounds really clean. Do you have the actual vinyl?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am Webhamster Henry:

Christie ATE Kevin Bacon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am sugarwolf:

Also, he's a jerk who happens to be fat, he's not a jerk because he is fat /end rant about body-shaming

ha, I typed this before JakeGould's post

a Chris Christie piñata? Not even the Greek debt could fill that.
Avatar 10:53am chromaphone:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am sugarwolf:

Christie is a shanda fur die fatties.
Avatar 10:54am chromaphone:

I found out about that music like 8 years ago and finally the digital reissue has arrived! thanks much.
  10:55am Mark:

Speaking of pinatas, I understand they're bashing Donald Trump pinatas down in Mexico this week after his sensitive characterization of Mexicans as drug dealers and rapists in his presidential announcement.
  10:57am JakeGould:

@sugarwolf: Christie’s weight is not something that I would normally find funny to mock, but when the guy is genuinely fat, blows $300,000 for catering/entertaining and then uses state helicopters to schlep that fat ass around I mean come on! The guy would be a scumbag if he was average BMI, but he’s a literal pig as he is now. He makes Donald Trump look reasonable.
Avatar 10:57am Trouble:

worst part of the prez political race is that all of the world watches as we trot out our dumbest and most horrible examples of americans to proclaim things about places they no nothing about. embarrassing.
  11:01am JakeGould:

@Trouble: The bright side is this makes Bernie Sanders a more and more viable candidate.
  11:02am JakeGould:

Also, Bernie Sanders is not a fat lying fucktard who needs a 6 figure catering bill and a helicopter to schlep his ass places.
  11:03am Mark:

I'm sure Irwin is seething.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am Greg from Bloomfield:

I'm hearing so much of this "Love them or hate them, they speak their mind..." —in reference to *a lot* of the candidates— as if that's some kind of a virtue. If the contents of your mind are uninformed and exclusionary, then I'd prefer you keep your mouth shut.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am sugarwolf:

Donald Trump will always be a "short-fingered vulgarian" to me! (RIP Spy)

I still have my Spy High yearbook.
  11:16am JakeGould:

@Mark: I would agree but despite buying a few issues and enjoying it back in the day, I would be hard pressed to remember one “thing” from it that much. I do remember that Photoshop cover of Clarence Thomas and Pee Wee Herman at a porn theater. Big deal in the nascent days of Photoshop. books.google.com...
  11:17am JakeGould:

Heck, here are all of Spy thanks to Google. books.google.com...
  11:20am Mark:

I remember a couple, Jake. One was where they called phone sex operators (yes, children, there was a time before 24-hour-a-day on-demand porn where they had these 900 numbers, and...well anyway) and asked them all these serious questions about foreign policy and the economy and stuff. That was classic. A lot of them would give serious answers, and then one was like, "Are you kiddin' me?!" (I can hear her gum snapping now.)
Avatar 11:20am bobdoesthings:

I think the name of this song is "Seli" and it's from the movie "4 3 2 1 morte" .. could be wrong.. or maybe the compilation has it wrong..
