Options June 23, 2015: R.I.P. James Horner
Morricone Island pays tribute to film composer James Horner who died yesterday at the age of 61 in a plane crash in Los Padres Forest near Santa Barbara, California. Although Horner will likely be best remembered for his blockbuster scores to Braveheart, Avatar and (the best-selling orchestral film soundtrack of all-time) Titanic, host Devon E. Levins will highlight some of his personal favorites from earlier in Horner's 100-plus career which began in the late 1970's.

Love the poster for Humanoids from the Deep

I smell movie theater popcorn when this show starts. A sense memory.

Yark....sad to her that he died in the plane crash. I guess it's lucky there were no passengers along.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm Mike East:

I ate too much movie popcorn yesterday and got a tummy ache...but that happens every time I go to the movies. I just don't learn.
  7:10pm bloopy:

hey devon. nice tribute
Avatar 7:12pm dale:

i HAVE to see battle beyond the stars - john boy walton and sybil danning and 70s movie of the week star john saxon. it has it all!
  7:12pm 2.76:1:

This is excellent
  7:18pm P-90:

A real tragedy. I had not heard that Horner had died in an accident like that. At 61, he had at least another 100-plus scores to go.
@dale: Battle Beyond the Stars constantly surprises you with its smartness and hipness. Of all the Star Wars-like movies made in the few years after Star Wars, it's probably the best.
Avatar 7:23pm JakeGould:

Truly sad. Even if you didn’t explicitly know his work, you heard his work all around you.
Avatar 7:25pm JakeGould:

Dead air on 91.1FM?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm Īke:

I'm getting dead air too, Jake.

48hr. Great film. What the eff is that middle finger Eddie Murphy poster about? Looks horrible.
  7:32pm RF:

91.5 sounding good. James Horner's loss is tragic so thank you for doing this so soon.
Avatar 7:39pm dale:

was dead air for a few minutes on 90.1 too - all's well now.
Avatar 7:43pm dale:

man, this music is so much richer texturally and darker than anything john williams could ever come up with.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm Mike East:

remember when I said I'd kill you last? I lied.
Avatar 7:58pm Devon E. Levins:

Thanks All. RIP James Horner! Very unfortunate. Gaylord Fields is in next week!!! I'm excited for it.
