Options Brian Turner: Playlist from June 9, 2015 Options

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Chris M played the lead track yesterday. It was massive.
Avatar 3:13pm Cecile:

BeeTee! Welcome back!
Howdy, Y'all!
Avatar 3:25pm greenlight:

that two 7" from 60ties Brian I gave yous @ primavera fest I intended gave to Nong originally (because obscure hungarian music on it and he would mix all type of obscure music, field recordings and different era all together so nicely ), but once I approached your table at Primavera I decided donate them to WFMU in general never knowing he will be gone, gone. weird.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm common:

this is nice!
Avatar 3:28pm Lopez:

this Snickers track is cozy
Avatar 3:33pm Cecile:

did dan have everyone form a circle around you?
Avatar 3:33pm Cecile:

that voivod set was great, as were Giant Sand and Run The Jewels
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@greenlight - You might try emailing Ning Nong or other DJs of interest and let them know you're interested in having them return. Station Manager Ken has given that advice before.
  3:39pm r i s k y:

Brian, I know you got that Buyer's Remorse, man. Go ahead, make my day.
I dare you papi!
Avatar 3:43pm Cecile:

  3:44pm Dean:

That flute player (flautist, whatever): ended up in Foreigner.
  3:46pm Dean:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Īke:

DJ Ning Nong did a great show, but if he's moving away, hey, what can ya do? (Thanks for the info. Was wondering about that myself.) Other folks who moved out west have ended up on other stations -- Greasy Kids' Stuff for one.
Avatar 3:54pm Cecile:

Fraternity? Yeah.

And, remember Tony Coulter moved away, but now he's on the drummer stream
Avatar 3:54pm Cheri Pi:

True Power Metal
Avatar 3:55pm Chris from DC:

Didn't know about this either, very cool.
Avatar 3:55pm MenfussMike:

sounds like Bruce Dickinson
Avatar 3:56pm Cecile:

they sound like Priest with Bruce Dickenson.
I don't like Bruce Dickenson's vocals. I've tried.
Avatar 3:58pm Cecile:

wow, that was from the 90s?
Avatar 4:00pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm common:

loved the bon scott!
  4:01pm Dave:

I saw old folks eating that shark stuff at a festival in Iceland. So I tried it. Think musty sponge soaked in ammonia.
Avatar 4:02pm northguineahills:

I had hakarl, and ate smoked puffin (wife nearly disowned me for the puffin, she also had the hakarl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm efd:

Didja try the hot dogs, Brian?
  4:03pm Martha:

I had always assumed Dr. Gunni was Finish 'cause of those Bad Vugum 7"s - glad to be better informed now. And puffins - I [heart] puffins -
Avatar 4:03pm Brian Turner:

YES! ruled
Avatar 4:03pm MikeY:

Avatar 4:03pm Cecile:

I would not eat the fermented shark. But I'd try any fish or bird they threw at me.
  4:03pm JakeGould:

Err, “Judy In DisCguise?”
Avatar 4:04pm northguineahills:

Actually got engaged in Reykjavik. Had the hot dogs as well.
Avatar 4:04pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Puffins look like such SMUG bastards.
Avatar 4:05pm MikeY:

pUFFINS TASTE like cat liter
Avatar 4:07pm Lopez:

Opus was a puffin! I think I need to request a Billy & the Boingers track now in honor of Bloom County's wearer of the greatest hats ever
  4:08pm Ari:

Alright, I missed SH Draumur, but nice to see you back!
Avatar 4:09pm Cecile:

I thought Opus was a penguin
Avatar 4:09pm Cecile:

that Speed song was amazing. Yo La Tengo should cover it.
Avatar 4:10pm MikeY:

I thought Opus was a penguin.
Go figure
Avatar 4:11pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Smoking cough-syrup? Not as easy as it sounds.
Avatar 4:12pm MikeY:

Many years ago I met Opus at a party in Buffalo NY I was tripping my ass off but he was there pouring brew.
Avatar 4:12pm Lopez:

Damn I was dead set thinking he was a puffin but looks like he was only mistaken for one.
@MikeY - that's outstanding
  4:13pm marc:

Was that list a preview of what we could expect at the Republican primary debate?
  4:13pm marc:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Ken From Hyde Park:

The Great Wikipedia says penguin (and "occasionally mistaken for a puffin"). What's the error rate of Wikipedia, though?
Avatar 4:15pm Cheri Pi:

I'll take what Mr. Piggy is having.
Avatar 4:16pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

smoking puffins, on the other hand...
Avatar 4:16pm MikeY:

I like Mr. Piggy.
Avatar 4:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...oo...feel like I grabbed two wires on different circuits @ a Hawkwind show...
Avatar 4:17pm MikeY:

Need to run a GEICO add right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Uncle Michael:

@Dean, I know nothing about High On Fire. I just read an interview a facebook friend named Dan Epstein did with Matt Pike for Rolling Stone. That guy is pretty out there...if he's not kidding.
Avatar 4:19pm Cecile:

he is out there.
But their sound is massively punishing.
Avatar 4:20pm Cheri Pi:

Matt is never kidding. I'll have to check out that article, ROlling stone keeps coming to my house even though I never ordered it and it goes straight into the recycling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Uncle Michael:

It may just be an online article.

Avatar 4:21pm MikeY:

Forward the RS to me I'll take it .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Uncle Michael:

If he's not kidding then he's crazy...but I'll have to check out the music. Sometimes I need a little massively punishing metal.
Avatar 4:24pm Cheri Pi:

Do it Uncle! You won't regret it.
  4:26pm r i s k y:

Sounds like Miracle Legion
  4:28pm Dean:

@UM, All I know about Pike is 1) he runs a mean band, and 2) he has a beer belly only a slob like me could envy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Carmichael:

Heya Brian and Tuesday-ers.
Avatar 4:31pm Cecile:

he is crazy.

this sounds like Chris Stamey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm common:

lovin all this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Carmichael:

Have you ever tried to play the key of A in E? You gotta be one transposin' sum bitch.
  4:37pm Dean:

Hmmm, judging from Pike's response to the question about extraterrestrial forces, I believe he might want to manage his sobriety a little more carefully.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Polyus:

@Cecile - HOF coming to town w/Pallbearer in August
Avatar 4:44pm Cecile:

this sounds like azonto!
Avatar 4:45pm Cecile:

polyus, hope I can make. I've never seen em. Even my friends who don't like them have. I'm kinda jealous.
Avatar 4:47pm Chris from DC:

Seen Sleep a few times but not HOF.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm chris:

Nozinja got the hook up on African Chipmonks, sounds like.
Avatar 4:49pm Lopez:

Nozinja really is hard to pin down but this Asian Woman On the Telephone is starting out just great
Avatar 4:51pm Brian Turner:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm chris:

We now know that out of frame, the chipmunk actually ran to the sanctuary of Nozinja's decks www.youtube.com...
Avatar 5:01pm Cecile:

ah! I was kind of right - that Nozinja sounded like this one South African dance comp I have
Avatar 5:02pm Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm common:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm Ike:

Avatar 5:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- transporting. Way kewl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I'm glad to see you escaped that giant shoe in Barcelona, BT. It looked like you were going to get squished!
Avatar 5:25pm Lopez:

This is really great stuff. Who knew a farfisa could be so versatile? I only know the instrument at all from 96 Tears by ? and the Mysterions. This is GREAT
Avatar 5:26pm Brian Turner:

There's some auxiliary non-farfisa droneage too, but the farfisa is the primary thing going on here....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Carmichael:

You had me at "drone" ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm common:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm doncaballero:

Great sounds to wrap up the workday
Avatar 5:29pm northguineahills:

  5:33pm Slazenger:

Avatar 5:35pm Brian Turner:

Yes. Perhaps not immediately (I think Mark is away), but it will be relatively soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm doncaballero:

Awesome! Thanks. I'll be on the lookout.
