A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Good morning Trouble and crew! Cloudy here north of Boston, good morning for some moody tunes.
Avatar 9:09am pierre:

Bonjour Trouble !
Avatar 9:09am djsheilab:

My bad with the Meghan mix-up. Sorry Trouble! 'Tis a pleasure to play before you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am Ken From Hyde Park:

The home page and the fill-ins page say Meghan on June 9. Fine music in either case.
  9:09am sugarwolf:

Good morning!
Avatar 9:11am bobdoesthings:

goooood morning!
  9:11am specksnyder:

Morning, Trouble. My daughter is obsessed with the pop song "Trouble." I dislike it intensely, so I've decided to aurally superimpose your laugh over the chorus when I hear it. Makes it much better. Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14am Ken From Hyde Park:

@specksnyder - They play that at my gym. What a goofy song.
Avatar 9:14am Trouble:

Oui! c'est moi: la trouble
Avatar 9:15am Trouble:

don't know this song that you are talking about , perhaps lucky for me?
  9:16am specksnyder:

@kenfromhydepark Yeah, but when I add Trouble's laugh it goes from goofy bad to goofy good.
Avatar 9:17am Claw!:

Yeah, the only "Trouble" song I can think of right now is the one by the Music Machine, and I can't imagine anyone *not* liking that one...
  9:17am enrique71:

Trouble are you still enjoying your relatively new bicycle?

Avatar 9:19am KP:

sorry about jumping the gun
  9:21am specksnyder:

Oh, I was talking about the Taylor Swift ear fungus that is rampaging the land. Glad you haven't heard it. Wear your bubble helmet.
Avatar 9:21am bobdoesthings:

I was just contemplating the expression "jump the gun" and thinking what a weird one it is.. until I google image searched it and saw a person leaving the starting line before all the other people racing.. now I get it!
Avatar 9:21am bobdoesthings:

b/c what I thought at first was : drawception.com...
  9:22am testingwithfire:

What is it with Taylor Swift supposedly being "cool" now? She even has the Christgau seal of approval. I still don't get it.
Avatar 9:23am Claw!:

This is lovely. Great music to price records to. :)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am Mike East:

Sensational opening set here, Trouble. Just what I needed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

....so - skedj change, but Trouble's still here, but a fill-in, but not - & Martha, who is gone, is here @ noon. Okay.
- Looking & sounding good of course. : )
Avatar 9:35am Polyus:

@testing - no kidding. I have been to ostensibly 'cool' record stores and seen her new LP displayed on the wall alongside a bunch of new releases by much more underground bands. I figure maybe I am just an old fart and don't get it?
  9:35am P-90:

The "Trouble" song that comes to my mind first is Cat Stevens'. Also, there's Elvis's T-R-O-U-B-L-E...
They're both way before my time, but I feel officially "ancient" somehow. Maybe "antique" is a better word.
Avatar 9:36am βrian:

So after skirting disaster with the hawk and the fox, the chickens have succumbed to the complaints of one neighbor. (Not us.) They're to be sent away to Chicken Camp.
Avatar 9:36am Polyus:

And also the Lindsey Buckingham song of that name.
Avatar 9:38am Claw!:

*gasp* Not the chickens! D-:
  9:38am testingwithfire:

Tina Turner, in her Ike days, recorded a tune called "I Smell Trouble." I heard it on a live at carnegie hall record years ago. Scorching is not even the word.

Trouble, I'm all congested and feeling gross too - I suffer with you in solidarity. :(
Hope you feel better in time for your trip to Canada.
Avatar 9:41am Trouble:

noooooooo, brian. what kind of noise? an occasional chicken meow when they lay an egg? do you have roosters?
  9:42am testingwithfire:

There is a wonderful cat cafe on blvd. st. denis in montreal. I recommend the grisetti with hummus and any of the resident cats as companions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@bobdoesthings: @ drawception - can I doodle things & show people online?? This would be a game-changer...
Avatar 9:43am Van in DC:

Darn it. Just missed Meg.
Avatar 9:43am bobdoesthings:

@revrabbit.. no clue about drawception.. look into it. .I found b/c I was confused by the expression "jump the gun"..
Avatar 9:50am βrian:

No roosters, but one of the hens learned to crow. Pretty loud, really, but that seemed to be fixed by a "crow collar," a kind of vest. Not good enough for one neighbor, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am sugarwolf:

Feeling you on the sick business, Trouble. I can't tell if I have allergies or a cold coming on though. This humidity is not helping.
Avatar 9:54am bobdoesthings:

@revrabbit - although I'd be willing to bet something already exists like that.. I think ZeFrank made some fun doodle tools where you can share your creations.. like this www.zefrank.com...

does anybody know if this ocean club '77 release is actually the same recording as the fairly common bootleg of that show?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am coelacanth:

i'm clean!...the whole time i was in the shower i tried to remember who did the only song named "trouble" that i've heard. Katell Keineg. (my favorite female songster.)

This Afroelectro is very hypnotic. Their name is perfect--that's exactly what it sounds like.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am coelacanth:

at least once i was awakened by the sound of a bird pecking or scratching at my window screen.
Avatar 10:15am Claw!:

That would make me feel way too much like Tippi Hedren and would freak me way out.
  10:16am testingwithfire:

I saw a tiny bit of Suoni Per Il Popolo last weekend in Montreal: Alvin Lucier and Pauline Oliveros at le Gesu. A great space for extremely non-improv and improv avant-garde music.
  11:25am Dean:

Webmaster, Did you happen to bump into my buddy, Lawrence J.? He attends a lot of those Popolo shows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Webhamster Henry:

I dunno! I was up there for a conference (with Oliveros and other improvisors) and was mostly with other conference members.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Andrew Waterloo:

The Popolo program always looks so good.
  11:34am Dean:

Sure wish I could get to some of those shows. Montreal: great city for a conference!

I didn't like Norwegian Wood AT ALL
  11:48am Dean:

Just read Anita Brookner, one after the other.
  11:48am r i s k y:

I guess Kafka on the Shore is good... So I've been informed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am adrian in mpls:

i'm relatively new to Murakami -- have read Kafka on the Shore and Wind-Up Bird in the last three month -- and working on Norwegian Wood right now. I liked Kafka a lot - was so-so on Wind-up Bird, and am kinda blase about Norwegian Wood
Avatar 11:49am Trouble:

love anita brookner! have you read jane gardham?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am Priscilla:

Yeah not crazy about Murakami either. Read a great short story in the NYer by Karen Russell — want to read Swamplandia! now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am steve:

i read recently that Murakami said he was puzzled by why Norwegian Wood is so popular and that its not what he wants to be known for.
Avatar 11:50am Joe McG:

Trouble, I started with a short stories collection called "The Elephant Vanishes" that I liked much more than "NW."
Avatar 11:50am specksnyder:

I liked Wind-up Bird Chronicle.
  11:50am Dean:

No. A new name to me! Is she Brookner-esque? I confess I haven't read Brookner in some time -- approximately as long as I've had kids -- but I always loved the comfortable predictability of her work, always executed beautifully.
Avatar 11:51am Trouble:

good to hear sugarwolf... dont feel so crazy
  11:51am peter:

Norwegian Wood is dull as is a lot of early Murakami. Start reading the later surrealistic stuff like Wild Sheep Chase, Hard Boiled World, Kafka on the Beach, 1Q84.
  11:51am scorps:

I can sense the low feelings about that one , maybe I'm biased because I like his work
You might try The Wind-up Bird Chronicle
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Adrian in London:

I've read everything by Murakami and I must admit to having gone off him recently. The Wind-up Bird Chronicle is fantastic but 1Q84 showed him mining the same seam to diminishing effects. His work is quite adolescent, not that that's a real criticism. Actually, Undergound, the non-fiction exploration of the cult that killed people with Sarin gas on the Tokyo underground system, and the look at what it means to be an ordinary salaryman in Japan, is very good.
  11:52am Dean:

Jane Gardam? (Spelling.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am sugarwolf:

I'm not the biggest literary fiction reader though. 90% of the fiction I read is crime/mysteries!
Avatar 11:56am Trouble:

yes you are right "gardam"
