  3:07pm P-90:

Greetings from sunny Harlem, USA.
  3:07pm Listening Out There:

Orange you glad you tuned in?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm fleep:

It's loaded with Vitamin C, just lick your screen.
Avatar 3:11pm Roberto:

Swan Dive is always good for an afternoon pick-me-up.
Avatar 3:15pm V Priceless:

Heya Irwin! Thanks for the Super Yobs!
  3:15pm Listening Out There:

No mistaking Slade's vocalist. So lyrical.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm common:

hey hey!
Avatar 3:18pm V Priceless:

oh, hey common! Gang!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm ikє:

Greetings, humans.
  3:21pm The Heat:

Now is when the mic breaks
  3:26pm JakeGould:

Hey folks! Anyone here know what the "#hobofoundahome" hashtag means?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Ikє:

$10,000? More like half a dozen donuts, a large sack of russet potatoes, and whatever expired medication Ken has lying around.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Irwin:

Make me an offer, Ike.
  3:27pm JakeGould:

What is being sold?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm fleep:

JakeGould, best guess is it's a typefont.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm common:

vp, all! good day to ya!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm fleep:

Examples of hobo typeface pinsta.me...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm ikє:

I was just engaging in baseless speculation regarding the value of Irwin's time. Sorry Irwin, there are no positions available at IkeCorp at this time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm common:

cant use it fleep...i've been labled a bum
  3:31pm JakeGould:

@fleep: Yes! That is it! The kids nowadays are into spotting "Hobo Sans" and one of my pics got tagged with that hashtag and I was confused. I thought it was about indigent travelers. https://instagram.com/p/2EN7nZKSKr/
  3:32pm P-90:

@common: join the crowd, Pal.
  3:33pm JakeGould:

Irwin, what if I found some fallen tree branches and sawed them for you. That would be a nice use of my time and yours. Sawed with a handsaw so you know I care.
  3:33pm Listening Out There:

Listened to much Allen Sherman in my deformative years.
  3:34pm of course!:

just what we needed, slurppier soup.

Can't recall when I was last on a spree.
Must have some kinda great spree:/
Avatar 3:40pm MikeY:

I like this version .. Who did the original ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm common:

ha! p-90
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Irwin:

Mikey: Standard, done by hundreds. Not sure who did the original. It's from the 1920s.
  3:46pm Tony Seymour:

the worlds first country western rap song.....didn't think it was possible.......
Avatar 3:48pm coelacanth:

that song's from the 70s too,if i remember correctly.

Hi people
Avatar 3:50pm coelacanth:

(and it had to have been a cross-over hit, or i wouldn't have kn own it back then.)
  3:56pm berbo:

I came across a reference to "Button up your overcoat" in a James Thurber piece I was reading. You can find scratchy versions on YouTube.
  4:06pm Laura L:

Well, that's a fine place to start--as the saying has it, "it's all good."
Avatar 4:10pm laughingacademy:

Is the music skipping or is it just me?
Avatar 4:10pm coelacanth:

that was indeed a fine place to start.
...i know what MY favorite is,but i shan't say, since it wont affect your programming anyway!
Avatar 4:10pm V Priceless:

@ Irwin: was wondering if you ever heard Joe Jackson's album of Ellington covers from a few years back...his latest release, in fact...it worked especially good live @ Town Hall when he toured behind it, but then again, I'm partial to JJ.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm slosl:

skipped for me too, restarted ok now
Avatar 4:12pm coelacanth:

Howdy V!
Avatar 4:12pm V Priceless:

Hey Fish!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Irwin:

Found THE MOOCHE!!! Next.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm common:

thought me head was just skippin
Avatar 4:18pm coelacanth:

i'm psyched. i'm not sure i've ever heard Ellington's version of the mooche.
Avatar 4:20pm coelacanth:

okay,i have heard this.
  4:21pm P-90:

The Mooche is KEY, indispesible
  4:22pm MONEYBAG$:

just tuned in and thought this was Amanda getting jazzy
Avatar 4:22pm coelacanth:

i was thinking of "minnie the moocher.
  4:24pm CeeDubbles:

  4:25pm P-90:

If I had to play just five numbers for someone to introduce them to what Ellington is about, or maybe even three, The Mooche would be one of them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm common:

love this record!!! it sits somewhere on the floor in my apt! so goot!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Irwin:

Mingus plays with seething rage.
  4:31pm P-90:

"seething", yes!
  4:38pm Golde:

Would be interesting to have a show in which the subtleties of emotional output (seething) within a given emotion/feeling (rage) are followed gradually from one side of the spectrum to the other. Has anyone done this before? If so, who!
  4:39pm P-90:

that bass
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm chris:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Irwin:

Elvin Jones on drums.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Trane: VOL. +
Avatar 4:54pm Polyus:

Oh man, Elvin was so good. Stating the obvious there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Elvin was so good.
Mingus, Roach & Duke are moderately adequate as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm common:

Avatar 4:57pm Jeff:

Whenever I hear Max Roach, I get sad that Clifford Brown died so young.

Is that weird?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- no it's a fact.
Avatar 5:12pm JakeGould:

Duke Ellington & Billy Strayhorn go together like… Any two things that are good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm common:

my pardner got to see max roach solo...jealous!
  5:17pm Tony Seymour:

Lambert Hendricks and Ross set his stuff to words for the emotional ties you were speaking of earlier.....
  5:20pm Listening Out There:

If you have "The Pianist," that's a good Ellington small ensemble recording.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm Carmichael:

This is actually soothing background music for my composing a reprimand for an employee.
  5:26pm Jack:

I know I'm not supposed to shout on the Internet, but:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Irwin:

Jack: Thanks. Sometimes it's almost worth it devoting three hours to being a free-form disk jockey and not getting paid.
  5:28pm KC:

Somewhere the Codger is smiling
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Carmichael:

Next week: 1 hour of G.G. Allin.
Avatar 5:30pm JakeGould:

@Irwin: My offer to cut fallen tree branches for you with a hand saw is still standing.
  5:37pm Tony Seymour:

Strayhorn and Ellington papers are in the Frank Foster Papers at Duke and the David Rubenstein Library..... http://library.duke.edu/rubenstein/findingaids/fosterfrank/

search that page for Strayhorn.
  5:39pm Jack:

Are there free-form radio stations where they pay the DJs? with money?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm redkayak:

Hi all - Brother, I'm sorry I got here so late. Happy B-Day Mr. Ellington :)
  5:41pm P-90:

Strayhorn: a truly fascinating figure, the more you dig into his story, the more you find... and yeah he wrote or co-wrote a lot of stuff credited solely to Ellington.
  5:49pm Golde:

Any examples you had in mind, Tony? (with regards to Lambert Hendricks and Ross)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm YETI BOB:

miles davis *hated* this record "money jungle", said it shouldn't even have been made. (i disagree)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Irwin:

Miles ridiculed Sun Ra too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm YETI BOB:

Miles Davis on Duke Ellington, Max Roach and Charles Mingus:

What am I supposed to say to that? That's ridiculous. You see the way they can fuck up music? It's a mismatch. They don't complement each other. - www.noisemademedoit.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm YETI BOB:

(i just find it humorous. i love 'em all)
  5:56pm Calvin Vinlac:

I like this; never listened to Duke Ellington before.
  5:56pm Tony Seymour:

Golde.....try this from their ellington compilation

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm redkayak:

This IS the best.....
  6:00pm P-90:
