@apple caruthers: This 'pretentious' music is the only thing keeping me sane in this gringo pop hiphop hell I'm experiencing south of the border.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Polyus:

I learned the truth at 17, when I first heard Metal Machine
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm chris:

viva pretentious noise! its just what i need right now. adios, "some" djs.
  4:42pm northguineahills:

Thank ye gods for Kenzo, for making this app possible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm common:

yea, polyus! think i was about 10
  4:43pm JakeGould:

@Ike: But FWIW, there is a big push to “revitalize’ (aka: gentrify) Sunset Park. So the Bush Terminal Park is one piece in a larger puzzle that will get better hours when other zoning crap happens. Mark my words.
Avatar 4:44pm Ghost of Posts Past:

@Apples Caruthers noise rock/music can be good. it depends on how the music plays out and if the duration compliments the "sounds" being used. i for one don't like compositions that play out for 20 minutes with minimal effort, unless the purpose is to be anti-music. not all noise rock however, is anti-music. some sound fine with a shorter track duration than others. you'd be surprised that noise has a lot of variety. btw. i'm in my mid 20's and still enjoying noise just fine.
Avatar 4:44pm steve:

people "misusing" quotation marks really drives me nuts

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm chris:

  4:46pm Apples Caruthers:

northguineahills; well anything is better than the gringo pop hip hop hell we are ALL experiencing! :)
As long as it is being enjoyed than I should be the one to bow out for a few minutes.
Avatar 4:47pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

..and I have yet to hear Metal Machine Mucus. Went from Electric Light Orchestra to Throbbing Gristle in one fateful day, age 11. Talk about a rite of passage...
Avatar 4:47pm Ghost of Posts Past:

@steve oh no :( did i use quotations improperly? i sometimes screw up grammatically.
Avatar 4:50pm steve:

GoPP i dont think so... the true offender was Trolly Trollington above you who used "some" quotation marks "incorrectly" "."
  4:50pm Mark:

Ike I notice in two weeks or so (May 2nd), that park will be open til 8 for the summer! I support everyone's right not to like every single thing every single DJ plays every single day. It can get a little "Emperor's New Clothes" around here sometimes. I posted a critical comment about a track I heard this morning and everybody answered with how much they were enjoying it--I said, well, that's the nature of freeform, right? The reason I listen to FMU is, even if a DJ plays something I don't like, I'm pretty sure if I stay tuned, I'll hear something else I REALLY like soon. (If I don't jump out the window first.) I'm actually a big Fabio fan and even that very annoying noise track was OK with me today. Now, another day I might not be able to take it. Oh, well.
Avatar 4:50pm Ghost of Posts Past:

Metal Machine Music is an interesting album for me. it's a concept i love, yet i can barely get past part 2.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Lewis:

great set! - right on the money for my state of mind and tasks at hand

Thanks Fabio!

"Noise is for heroes, leave the music for zeroes..oh yeah!"
  4:52pm Mark:

One time someone was playing a rather noisy track and I commented that I thought that the person upstairs was vacuuming, and he replied that he had taken a buzz saw to the turntable--it's all in good fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm common:

man, that's great rev! big elo and tg fan! and gopp, i was an english teacher once and i can't spell at all.
  4:53pm Listener Robert:

Anybody's c.w. fast enough to read the Morse in this?
Avatar 4:53pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Is this RM74? Lovely stuff. Will research this mofo.
  4:54pm Mark:

I read once that Lou Reed only did "Metal Machine Music" to punish his label because he was mad at them and he wanted to give them the least commercial thing he could think of. I'll always remember his interview with Lester Bangs, telling him there were bits of Beethoven in there, but Lester couldn't hear it because he was too stupid.
Avatar 4:54pm Chris from DC:

Rev, that RM74 is great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Stepchild:

Rev, I can endorse " Pirouetten" which he (she? them?) did with RLW...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Stepchild:

they/them. Sorry, grammaticians
  4:57pm Apples Caruthers:

Mark, what you said says what I said, a lot better. And to Steve,
theres always someone with ruler on hand with the punctuation punishment, may as well be me today.
Was that enough commas for you?
And hey, my name ain't Trolly it's Polly.
  4:58pm northguineahills:

@Mark: I once was playing a droney piece, and my roommate (back when I was in college), and he commented, "are you vacuuming?". Four years later,
I met said musician, and he said, actually that was a sampled vacuum.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm common:

my band horsey was playing at a sportsy type bar-for some reason-...noise a plenty. we were so into it and i looked up and the owner of the bar was giving me the neck cut sign and jumping up and down in front of us. ah, whatever floats yer boat.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Ken From Hyde Park:

A story of failure for today. Several different computer systems at work today gave me messages about failing passwords. Long story short, I recently spilled a little honey on my keyboard while drinking tea. The honey was causing an extra character to get entered. But I couldn't see it because password letters are hidden. This had me in a panic all afternoon until I figured out the problem.

You're RIGHT! I was thinking of the 20th Century -- HUGE failures there. 21st Century is a little early still, but you're probably right and the way things look, it will be a spectacular failure...
