Just intonation = note ratios that are mathematically calculated.

Good evening, Dave and friends.
Avatar Sun. 4/12/15 9:59pm Dave Mandl:

@pss: Or more mathematically precise ratios (3/2, 9/5, or whatever).
Avatar Sun. 4/12/15 9:59pm Dave Mandl:

@Ken: Evening! BTW, is that Hyde Park in NY or London?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/12/15 10:03pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I'm in New York. Home of FDR.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/12/15 10:04pm pacific standard simon:

I wish there was a 7" record with a picture sleeve, titled Thelonious Monk Is A Surfin' Fool. One side would be Chris Spedding & Peter Frampton's version of "Work" -- the other side would be T.J. Kirk's version of "Brake's Sake". The picture sleeve would be a Photoshopped image of Monk with his silly wool hat on a surfboard. That is all.

Ahmad Jamal, nice! I was listening to "Poinciana" yesterday.
Avatar Sun. 4/12/15 10:20pm Dave Mandl:

@pss: Ah, I haven't heard that in ages. We may not have it here at FMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/12/15 10:22pm pacific standard simon:

It's on Live At The Pershing, an album that I grew up with.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/12/15 10:31pm pacific standard simon:

Wouldn't it be odd if Roman Polanski and Charles Manson died on the same day? They are only a year apart in age.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/12/15 10:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...it's incredible that Lizzy suffered in any way from any lack of recognition/success...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/12/15 10:35pm pacific standard simon:

Well, they sold more records in '76 than The Ramones, so I can't feel too sorry for them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/12/15 10:37pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...or: them too...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/12/15 10:40pm pacific standard simon:

There's a whole lot of great early Nesmith to hear.

Hi Dave!!!

The company that took apart Ray Bradbury's home will soon be offering bookends made from wood extracted from the house. I would buy, but expect they will be out of my budget. Still, one can hope.
Avatar Sun. 4/12/15 10:48pm Dave Mandl:

@pss: That's slightly disturbing. I mean what they're doing, not that it's out of your budget.
Avatar Sun. 4/12/15 10:52pm Mutant:

Sounds like the digital years
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/12/15 10:55pm pacific standard simon:

It was all arranged with Bradbury's family. People were upset that the home was sold after his death, and scheduled for demolition so that a new house could be built. The plan is to build a replica of his writing den elsewhere, and satisfy the sentimental (me!) with a piece of the real thing on their bookshelves. Works for me.
Avatar Sun. 4/12/15 10:58pm HollyT:

Nope! It's from Yeats.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/12/15 10:58pm JakeGould:

“The Golden Apples of the Sun” is Bradbury.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/12/15 10:58pm JakeGould:

Though I am old with wandering
Through hollow lands and hilly lands,
I will find out where she has gone
And kiss her lips and take her hands;
And walk among long dappled grass,
And pluck till time and times are done
The silver apples of the moon,
The golden apples of the sun.
—W. B. Yeats, The Wind Among the Reeds
Avatar Sun. 4/12/15 10:59pm Mutant:

Silver Apples of the Moon is from 1995. Subotnick's was from 1967.
Avatar Sun. 4/12/15 11:00pm HollyT:

@JakeGould, was just about to post that. But, title is "Song of the Wandering Aengus" if I'm not mistaken.
Avatar Sun. 4/12/15 11:02pm Dave Mandl:

OK, so Bradbury got the line from Yeats. His short story is probably early '60s.
Avatar Sun. 4/12/15 11:05pm HollyT:

I can't help it. I am a born pedant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/12/15 11:09pm pacific standard simon:

It totally makes sense that Bradbury would be a Yeats fan. And I was just reading that he was best man at Stan Freberg's wedding.
  Sun. 4/12/15 11:10pm ?:

Underestimator?
I've spent the last 2 hours adding movies from your tumblr to my netflix queue. except Diaz's Melancholia and a few others; The Suspended Step of the Stork
Avatar    Sun. 4/12/15 11:12pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Iva Bittova is the coolest. I especially like her album Svatba with Pavel Fajt.
Avatar Sun. 4/12/15 11:13pm Dave Mandl:

@Bronwyn: Agreed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/12/15 11:20pm pacific standard simon:

Just pulled down off the shelf the very volume -- all the stories in The Golden Apples Of The Sun are copyright 1952, 1953, and Yeats, and his poem, are credited on the appropriate page. About time to go back and re-read this stuff.
Avatar Sun. 4/12/15 11:26pm HollyT:

By the way Dave, there is a musical version of the Yeats poem which you are probably familiar with. Chris Thompson, not sure the year, but late 60s/early 70s, I guess. I've heard it on FMU, I can't remember which show though.
Avatar Sun. 4/12/15 11:27pm HollyT:

It's really wonderful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/12/15 11:31pm pacific standard simon:

I could stand to listen to Judy Collins' version of "Innesfree"...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/12/15 11:34pm pacific standard simon:

Oops, "Innisfree".
