Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am Amanda:

Ah! I get THAT reference.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm Amanda:

Can you hear my music? Not sure why the playlist is displaying something else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm listener james from westwood:

I hear Green Day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Stevel:

Surprised I never used a Stan Freberg piece back in my speech team days.

Yes, I hear music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Rich in Washington:

I hear the Amanda theme
  12:02pm sugarwolf:

Hello hello
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Doug Schulkind:

Gotta dash off to work. Have a monstrously wonderful show, Amanda! (Per usual.)
  12:04pm P-90:

Greetings DJ Amanda and Nazarini. hadn't heard the news about Stan. VERY sad now.

trying to listen to this show in one ear and Duane in the other. mind expanding
Avatar 12:08pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...giving up my place in line on WKCR's server for Billie Holliday
- so this had better be pretty gawshdarn Sceanario !! ...

- Thank You, Stan Freberg.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Amanda:

I realize the cartoons at the top might be misleading -- Freberg wasn't in the Marc Anthony cartoon, I just wanted to make gifs of it because I love it.
  12:15pm sugarwolf:

Whoa, Maria from sesame street!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Stevel:

sugarwolf: Very cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Amanda:

@sugarwolf - you win!!!

I saw Nina Persson perform a few months back at Mexicali Live in beautiful downtown Teaneck. She didn't pull anything from the Cardigans songbook, however.
  12:19pm ?:

"Feed the Kitty" is a classic, one of Chuck Jones' very best!
Those two gifs look so cool side by side...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Amanda:

It's all in the eyes...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Gaylord Fields:

"Feed the Kitty" never fails to give me the feels, even after almost 50 years of watching it.

Also: "Today the pits; tomorrow the wrinkles" — Ars gratia pecuniae," indeed! R.I.P., Cecil the Sea Sick Sea Serpent!
Avatar 12:27pm ndbob:

afternoon Amanda and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Amanda:

Gud afternoon T'Bob and everyone!!!
Avatar 12:33pm ndbob:

One thing that makes me feel old is that I was too old for Sesame Street
Avatar 12:34pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...a little like Alan Sherman, a little like Tom Lehrer, a little like Bob Dorough, a little like Mel Blanc
...a lot like Stan Freberg.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Gaylord Fields:

@ndbob: I was also way too old for Sesame Street when it debuted in 1969, but I also wasn't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm listener james from westwood:

whistling along to this one!
Avatar 12:40pm ndbob:

@Gaylord I do understand:) I feel that way about lots of things
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Amanda:

I count one (1) guitar note in this entire song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Gaylord Fields:

So if I understand the song correctly, he's a skeleton who just happens to be named Mr. Ghost.
  12:45pm sugarwolf:

I was the perfect age for the golden age of educational tv
Avatar 12:46pm ndbob:

Avatar 12:47pm glenn:

dead air, amanda.
Avatar 12:47pm ndbob:

and back
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Amanda:

Woops, fixed!

@Gaylord I think that's exactly right. And skeletons do tend to love going out to nightclubs, more than ghosts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Amanda:

@sugarwolf - me too, I'm happy to say!
  12:48pm P-90:

When it first appeared, Sesame Street had a lot of hipster cred, everyone was watching it and talking about it. It was seen as an invasion of "educational television" by a kind of counterculture sensibility. (Jim Henson's crew-who had collaborated with Freberg on TV commercials-had a lot to do with this.)
And thanks again Amanda, for the "Feed the Kitty" gifs, the IOS app de-volved me to "?" In my comment at 12:19.
Avatar 12:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...back when choices were few - Sesame Street was perfectly cannabinoid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Amanda:

Thanks for revealing yourself, P-90! Sorry about the drop-out, I was just so blissed-out on my own segue that I spaced.
Avatar 12:51pm glenn:

i never watched sesame street. loved the muppet show, though.
  12:53pm sugarwolf:

I bought the old school sesame st DVDs and they come with a warning! May not be appropriate for today's child. Oh dear.
Avatar 12:55pm glenn:

iain mathews sounding crazily like gene clark here.
Avatar 12:57pm ndbob:

nice set here Amanda!

Lefty the 'Salesman': ...'Hey kid - ya wanna buy...an E ?!??'...
  12:58pm MONEYBAG$:

in the words of John Sebastian, it's so groovy to come here and see all you people living in tents
Avatar 12:59pm Hoboken Jack:

Darn, I thought ? from the Mysterians had tuned in.
Avatar 1:00pm Erella:

That was beautiful!
  1:00pm P-90:

@sugarwolf: Doesn't that just SUCK? I read the PC Police even gave Cookie Monster a hard time for potentially encouraging childhood obesity. Freberg himself was legendary for challenging that kind of thinking VERY early on- he did a radio bit about the network executives asking him to change the song "Ol' Man River" to "Elderly Man River"- in 1957!
Avatar 1:01pm ndbob:

I've had Obray Ramsey records
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Polyus:

I forgot about Marc Anthony! What a great name for a dog.
Avatar 1:07pm Hoboken Jack:

That Julie Byrne track was really quite nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Jeff Golick:

Hi. Must be something in the air in re Sonny & Cher.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Amanda:

You did too, Jeff? Ack!!!
Avatar 1:16pm KP:

Hi, Amanda.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Jeff Golick:

Well, I know @glenn's happy about it. Way diff tune.
Avatar 1:17pm KP:

Oh man, I missed Gene Clark.
Avatar 1:18pm jay c:

ripping the tunes as always, happy wednesday!
  1:19pm josh:

Ladybug's Picnic! One of many songs my wife thinks I made up.
Avatar 1:20pm bpd:

Ladybugs' Picnic is life-affirming
Avatar 1:20pm Hoboken Jack:

In the somewhat viral story going around of the LEGO "Golden Girls" set, there's an image of LEGO Dorothy and LEGO Sophia as LEGO Sonny and Cher. Maybe that's how they re-entered the zeitgeist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Jeff Golick:

I'm shocked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Gaylord Fields:

There are more than enough Simpsons books on the market, and yet I could read one more — one with the name Amanda Nazario on the cover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm listener james from westwood:

hump and a dewlap ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm listener james from westwood:

Heh, good out tune!
Avatar 1:33pm glenn:

what am i happy about?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Amanda:

Aw, shucks Gaylord. And I would be thrilled to write it, when the time comes!

LEGO has been really on the ball lately. Their Simpsons playsets are totally awesome.
Avatar 1:35pm KP:

Gaylord, i would be thrilled to buy and read that book. Just dont ask me what it's about.
Avatar 1:37pm glenn:

i have a simpson's clue game. if there was simpsons risk, i would own that too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Jeff Golick:

@glenn: more Sonny & Cher?

Have the Simpsons chess set somewhere around here...
Avatar 1:39pm Hoboken Jack:

Ms. Byrne is at Rough Trade in Brooklyn this coming Saturday.
Avatar 1:44pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...could be just like what 'Simpson's Time' is here:
- 'AmNazz's [Illustrated] Random Episode Guide to The Simpsons' ; works as an intro for me ! ...
- Monkees typed as Beatles copies - but this is really good FolkPopRockBubblegum like other stuff...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Gaylord Fields:

Rafelson and Schneider must have peed their pants when Micky auditioned: a goofball with a face made out of India rubber and an angel's voice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Blark...Our department had a luncheon at a local restaurant today. I am packed like a Snickers bar. I feel like I'm having a food baby!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Stevel:

Good to be here for most of the show, during work. Lovely as always.
Avatar 1:49pm glenn:

rough trade? eeeeeeek.
  1:49pm whattawino:

Carol Pope! Wow...Very cool....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Amanda:

Srsly! The lore is that Micky was hired second... but only because Davy was their client at the outset and they were building the rest of the group around him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm listener james from westwood:

Ages since I've heard "All Touch"!
Avatar 1:50pm KP:

When i saw the Monkees at the Beacon, Brian Williams was sitting in front of me. I swear.
Avatar 1:51pm glenn:

i had no idea rough trade was ever played outside of toronto.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Gaylord Fields:

@KP: The way he told it, he had replaced Davy in the band. (Eat lead, barrel of fish!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm listener james from westwood:

Had no idea I had this much Freberg in my childhood DNA.
Avatar 1:54pm Hoboken Jack:

According to the always-trustworthy Wikipedia, these four were all indeed Bud Luckey animations.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Gaylord Fields:

@Amanda: Yep, Davy was a given (and already contracted to Columbia/Screen Gems).
Avatar 1:54pm KP:

Davy got the gig off his portrayal of the Artful Dodger on the same Ed Sullivan show that premiered the Beatles.
Avatar 1:56pm ndbob:

excellent show Amanda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm listener james from westwood:

Peggy and, what, the artist she canned for harassing Joan were doing this John/Marsha bit early in one of the mid-60s Mad Men seasons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm listener james from westwood:

(now that Mad Men's waning, a bit of trivia seems suitable!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Amanda:

Peter was handed over by Stephen Stills, and Nez was the only guy who actually answered the casting ad and showed up at the cattle call. (I am happy to tell this story over and over.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Jeff Golick:

Stephen Stills' greatest achievement.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks for the swell show, Amanda!
Avatar 1:59pm KP:

And the concept and appearance was copped from the Who!
Avatar 1:59pm KP:

See you Amanda. Sorry for being late
  1:59pm P-90:

Thanks again, DJ Amanda! Hoping for another Simpson's Time meetup soon...!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm listener james from westwood:

Many thanks, Amanda!
Avatar 2:00pm Hoboken Jack:

Excellent episode, thank you!
Avatar 2:01pm KP:

Gaylord, ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Amanda:
