What happened to your uterus and why wasn't I informed?
Avatar 3:02pm glenn:

Hey Irwin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Yes, you should.
No, you shouldn't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Michael:

Hi Irwin. Thanks for remembering Stan!
  3:09pm P-90:

I can't believe Stan's gone, just got the news a few hours ago. Still stunned.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Alison Porchnik:

" It’s almost like I can hear her voice whispering into my vagina." www.fastcompany.com...
Avatar 3:10pm glenn:

he was 89 years old. it couldn't have been that much of a shock.
  3:13pm P-90:

@glenn: There seems to be a naive part of me that halfway expects these folks who are truly immortal to actually live, if not forever, than at least a real, real long time...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Alison Porchnik:

Sorry, that was sort of off topic.
  3:14pm Tony Seymour:

Same riff as Smooth with Santana.....which one was first? Shelia or Santana? Smooth or Leader of the Band?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Michael:

Well Alison, Ken had a bit of a vagina theme for a bit this morning so perhaps it's a trend.
Avatar 3:15pm glenn:

i mean, if the beebs croaked, i'd be a little shocked. but mostly relieved.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Alison Porchnik:

I missed that, Michael, but it doesn't surprise me. Ken and Irwin have synchronous cycles.
  3:25pm P-90:

@Alison: Thanks for the link so we can all be in on this vagina deal. I can say, for what it's worth, that there is absolutely no physiological basis for the claim that any herb blown into the vagina is going to enter the uterus. Mugwort might be a legitimately beneficial herb, but it can't go where they say it's going via these "treatments."
  3:25pm Laura L:

Glenn, the NYT obit says Stan Freberg was 88; hence the shock. If he were 89, it would be different. But only 88?! Life isn't fair!
Avatar 3:28pm jillydg:

I'm with you Irwin. Someone owes me money and my cat's all up in arms about food.
Avatar 3:30pm cheyenne_h:

This is the second Le Tigre of the day! Thanks Irwin
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Kat in Chicago:

I forgot how cool this song is
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Kat in Chicago:

Vaginal Creme Davis shoutout continues the V theme
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...my cat owes me money...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Mike East:

this song was on my wedding mix. freakin love le tigre
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Shiela E's dad was in Santana - right? - & Prince loves Santana - tho' I never made that connection before, I don't think...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm common:

i wonder what shiela e is up to.
Avatar 3:40pm glenn:

she's probably a soccer mom, like the bangles.
Avatar 3:42pm V Priceless:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Alison Porchnik:

still banging the drums, actually.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Mike East:

The Escovedos are a big music family
  3:48pm berbo:

We had Freberg's "The United States of America", which I loved as a kid. And still do.
  3:48pm P-90:

Stan's Caribbean patois seems to owe a lot to the impressionist Puerto Rican speech from a West Side Story...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Ike:

I didn't fully realize that Metric was Canadian until I was in Nova Scotia and heard one of her songs on a top-40 station there. There's no way they would've played anything so good if not for CanCon rules.
Avatar 3:51pm glenn:

yep. from toronto. otherwise they'd be called imperial.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm rrg:

That's one way of looking at it. The other way of looking at it is that regulation forces them to play a lot of crap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Stan Freberg combined voice impression talents w/ great satirism, musical ability, acting...& seems like he was very well-liked personally. When I was very young cassette taped the audio for Looney Tunes cartoon 'Three Little Bops' off TV because I thot it was so damned kewl - never knew it was him 'til today...
- Gratitude & Respect - Stan Freberg.
Avatar 3:54pm glenn:

i'm not even sure if we have cancon requirements any more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm rrg:

Here's a summary of Canadian radio from a friend of mine:

Good song, good song, Bryan Adams.

Good song, good song, Rush.

Good song, good song, Céline Dion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm rrg:

According to my brother the DJ there are still Cancon rules.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Andrew Waterloo:

Canadian Radio is basically: what do we think can be popular in America followed by highly praised nice music made by somebody local.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...most 'radio' anywhere:

corporate crap, corporate crap, corporate crap

corporate crap, corporate crap, corporate crap

corporate crap, corporate crap, corporate crap

...mostly attributable to FCC Deregulation paving the way for even our Music to be bought & sold to the highest bidders...thanks so much...
Avatar 4:01pm Erella:

Steve Earle, in interview said that the music he was making became more popular in Canada because of CanCon even though he isn't Canadian. In order to get their 30 or 40% Canadian Music in, the radio stations would have to find other music that would bridge nicely. He said that his music sounds good with what the Canadians produce.
  4:05pm Listener Robert:

Sorry to hear he's gone, but Freberg got up to an age & stayed active long enough that every time I heard him, it was always a surprise that he was still alive.
Avatar 4:07pm JakeGould:

Hey there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Bas NL:

Second time i hear this song today.. What's this great background music to Joe Frank? Is it David Sylvian?
  4:09pm Brendan:

Early Joe Frank? The pacing suggests a harried reading.
Avatar 4:14pm glenn:

then they changed jenkins into a dog named hooch, signed up tom hanks, and hollywood history was made.
  4:19pm ?:

No back ground loop. Oh here it comes. Yes very rushed. Must be early Joe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm common:

this is good, as usual...but a tad depressing being an unemployed personage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm ikє:

@common, me too.
Avatar 4:22pm JohnEBGood:

Yo ho ho!
  4:27pm MONEYBAG$:

Joe Frank/Gavin Bryars mashup!
  4:36pm Brendan:

Now used to the faster pace , i like it. Very economical and the stories are great.
  4:37pm Brendan:

Any Joe is good Joe.
  4:43pm Brendan:

I recently achieved enlightenment via a LED fixture. It has changed my view of things within the universe of illumination.
  4:50pm JakeGould:

Speaking of a good deal, I got a good deal on aluminum shop lamp reflectors.
  5:04pm Brendan:

Dude was an excellent strummer
  5:05pm P-90:

Joe makes very sure-footed choices: Sections with no music bed, switching the narrative tense from past to present, introducing sound effects (like the plane engines) near the end after a whole piece without them.
  5:09pm P-90:

@Brendan: too bad Dragnet isn't around any more, I can imagine Sgt. Friday lecturing kids on the awful side effects of seeking enlightenment using LEDs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...well-observed P-90; he's like a film director in a way
- altho' everyone in every Medium wearies of being compared to the others rather than appreciating their own...
  5:27pm Brendan:

P-90 . Roger that, these poor kids nowadays don't stand a chance when they get turned on by black market bulbs sold by some punk out of the back of a van.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...could be any wattage @ all...
  5:37pm Tony Seymour:

officially in love with kim fox now.......
Avatar 5:37pm JakeGould:

@Brendan: But you do realize there is a trend towards olde timey Edison era look-alike bulbs? www.justbulbsnyc.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Irwin:

Kim left the music biz about ten years ago to raise a family.
Avatar 5:39pm Hoboken Jack:

Trying to Google Flying Colours, they really try to direct me to the "supergroup" Flying Colors.
  5:40pm timurf:

Avatar 5:41pm Hoboken Jack:

and Y? Because i left out a Y.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Irwin:

Flyying variety is from Australia. Don't think they've had releases in the US.
  5:44pm 67tele:

ROYGBIV is the colors of the rainbow
  5:44pm Listening Out There:

Wikipedia: Roy G. Biv, also ROYGBIV, is an acronym for the sequence of hues commonly described as making up a rainbow: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Irwin:

Thanks LOT. Perfect explanation for a band with that name.
Avatar 5:48pm Hoboken Jack:

Looks like Flyying Colours' debut EP came out on Shelflife in the U.S. a year ago.
  5:50pm Listening Out There:

Great mashup...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Irwin:

Thanks, Jack. Any news on them touring the US?
  5:53pm P-90:

Great mashup.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Great mashup..
  5:56pm P-90:

@Jake: yeah, it's a quasi-steampunk thing, there are whole catalogs and websites now full of fixtures designed to be used with these retro-style bulbs -many if which do produce a pleasing, "organically" warm light.
Avatar 5:57pm Hoboken Jack:

Still just UK and Euro dates for our fyyne flyying friiends
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Ike:

That track made me curious for a refresher on the origin of mash-ups, so I ended up here:
As I thought, Evolution Control Committee did the first real mash-up (not just sampling or blending things) by overlaying Public Enemy onto Herb Alpert. Unless someone else knows something Wiki doesn't....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Irwin:

Carl Stalling did mashups for WB cartoons.
  6:02pm P-90:

Stalling WAS an early practitioner of the mashup, wasn't he?
