Options Brian Turner: Playlist from March 31, 2015 Options

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

What up FMU heads!
  3:27pm Mark Williams:

bands whose name describes their sound - Brian's played two of them! Notekillers & Smashchords. I'm sure there are others...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm PQB:

Brian, never apologize for changing the topic to Nelson.
Avatar 3:31pm Polyus:

"Oh, right, you're in Cheap Trick! Hey, can you get me Robin Zander's autograph?"
Avatar 3:39pm ironybread:

I'm not going to look up this Stratacasters song on Discogs yet...first I'm going to try to guess the year. When did rocknroll have permission to be this noisy? My guess = 1963. Prediction: My guess will be very very wrong.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Stevel:

Hey mom! Check out my new record by The Frogs!

Mom? Please stop crying.
  3:41pm paula pc:

RIP, but I never, ever liked this band. My loss I realize
  3:42pm paula pc:

@Stevel -- and that predates my being a mom even
  3:43pm Ryan:

Geez this show is awesome Brian, what would you recommend for a BHsurfers fan?
Avatar 3:43pm singing serpent glen:

ahhh MALE GAZE, digging this record
Avatar 3:45pm Brian Turner:

in terms of a BHS record Ryan?
Avatar 3:49pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

[crashes through overhead skylight, lands on barstool in a shower of glass, orders a stout, nods appreciatively to those assembled...]

Ryan, may I suggest the Double Live bootleg? Downloadable free (one at a time) from their site:

Cambodian Rocks show! Holy crapper! Sold!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Lewis:

That Monty Hall Cambodian Rocks Show is AMAZING - will it be recorded for those of us way too far away to attend? Kudos to the organizers of that show!!
Avatar 3:58pm ironybread:

Commenters – can you help? I was working at a college radio station circa 1993-1994 and a CD single came in, and I can’t remember the band name. It was your basic boilerplate college alt-rock band a la Sebadoh, except that one track on the disc was EXTREMELY distorted, just a wall of chaos, like the band had been recorded in a small room with one mike that had been overdriven 1000%. Lyrics and melody were completely smeared out. Does this ring a bell with anyone?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Greg from Bloomfield:

The way my calendar looks right now I should just set a tent up outside Monty Hall...
  4:01pm tomasz.:

that Fall show sounds fantastic! Marc Riley's show with Mark Radcliffe on Radio 1 was pretty much the first radio show i ever compulsively listened to, back in the '90s.
  4:01pm tomasz.:

ironybread: no idea, but it sounds pretty great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Stevel:

Neat Baby's on Fire cover. Properly creepy!

(Digging up Snakefinger's cover of The Model now.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Grok-o-matic:

Woah, nice Eno cover. Diggin' it!
  4:09pm mangrovedeltaplan:

this is rad, great show so far!
Avatar 4:12pm Chris from DC:

Cool, Expert Alterations.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...not to be confused w/ Expert Alliterations ; every word in their songs started w/ the same letter...but they were no good for dancing really...
  4:18pm sdsoule in pdx:

weeping... every time
Avatar 4:18pm Polyus:

Satyricon was such a cool venue. From my limited experience, anyway.
  4:21pm paula pc:

  4:30pm Dean:

@ironybread: Yo La Tengo's "Sugarcube"? It's distorted, but not what I'd call EXTREMELY so, and I can make out the lyrics. But 1993.
Avatar 4:36pm Drunk Sleeping at end of Bar:

Nod quieter.
Avatar 4:38pm Lopez:

SUPER late to the scene. What up y'all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Stevel:

Sounds like a Tidal commercial.

Avatar 4:57pm Andy M.:

Where else but WFMU will you hear Dickhead Rescue?
Avatar 5:01pm JakeGould:

Nobody ever thinks of dickheads and their emergency rescue needs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm Stevel:

Is Cretin new? I keep hearing it, and liking it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Stevel:

Dickheads. Victims or victimizers?
Avatar 5:04pm JakeGould:

@Stevel: Dickhead rescue of… Or dickhead rescue from… Nice point.
Avatar 5:06pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Holy crap, can't stay tuned in.. creeping back to barstool covered in glass shards.. sheepishly gesturing at yonder bartendah..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Dammit, I missed Alessandro Alessandroni :(
