Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am Marcel M:

The video for the original Soft Cell version is one of my favorite videos. Don't think it could get made today (in mainstream culture at least).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am Marcel M:

Video for this version is also cool.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am Polyus:

Still in high school in 1985 - I wish I had been cool enough to know about these bands.
  9:23am André:

These Immortal Souls would be nice to listen? Rowland S. Howard was just great. Hello form Portugal!

Avatar 9:54am Chris from DC:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am cory:

some time in the mid 90s i got a "new artists" cd from stoli. the jesus and mary chain was on it. i was confused
Avatar 9:58am bobdoesthings:

I bet Rollins has a killer brownie recipe... I bet he takes it way too seriously too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Greg from Bloomfield:

Morning, gang!
Chris, any chance you will be playing "Cold Slither" by Zartan and the Dreadnoks? It *was* released in 1985...
Avatar 10:00am Chris M.:

coming up next, Greg!
  10:00am Nate K:

I like Slick Rick's voice.
Avatar 10:01am PKNY:

When I think of '85, "La Di Da Di" is a standout. I remember taking a class trip to the Bronx Zoo, and someone had this recorded off of KISS-FM when it came out, and blasted it on a boombox. 30 years on, still amazing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am Polyus:

His grooming habits are above reproach.
Avatar 10:04am Cheri Pi:

Chris this is the best thing ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am cory:

B.A.D. introduced me to this song
Avatar 10:06am Chris M.:

thanks Cheri Pi! guess it was worth coming in sick today
  10:06am Mark Williams:

interesting thing about "Ring the Alarm" is that the rhythm is from around 1970-71. They just voiced Tenor Saw on it some 15 years later. Took off.
  10:09am Nate K:

I'd like to think the Kirkwoods would applaud that transition.
Avatar 10:09am PKNY:

Ego Trip picked the "La Di Da Di"/"The Show" single as the best hiphop single of '85, but you really can't hate on most of the list:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am Greg from Bloomfield:

Jesus, this sounds like it was recorded yesterday...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am joe:

Damn missed No Trend.
Avatar 10:11am Cheri Pi:

Feel better Chris, seasonal allergies are killing us here in CinCity
Avatar 10:11am Sem Chumbo:

Hey, Chris M. and Imaginears. Good day, eh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am joe:

Just watched the Chocolate War the other day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am barrie:

It's always nice hearing old hits on FMU. No compression and maximizing like when you hear it on a major station, it sounds like listening to the record! Also, it's a great song...
  10:17am Nate K:

Well played.
  10:17am mark:

Kate Bush is such a major talent. I liked her double album "Ariel" a lot--dealing with being a wife and mother. It was absolutely gorgeous, but nobody bought it but me, I don't think. Saw an excellent documentary about her from the BBC I think. Didn't realize she was so young when she started.
  10:19am mark:

Like your painting today. The macaws or whatever are looking at the skull club thingie all, "What up, dude?" And then you wonder if Mr. Skelyton is going to bash 'em over the head with that club. But then you say, "No, wait, it's just a drawring." There's a lot to think about there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am Andrew Waterloo:

Interesting Puppy choice.
  10:22am mark:

When I was working in a record store around '85/'86 kids would come in and ask for Skinny Puppy and I didn't know wtf they were talking about. I was already too old to be working there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am Nardo:

Saw gobs of bands in 85. Remember giving This Nation's Saving Grace lots of turntable time (hint hint).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Ken From Hyde Park:

I trust none of this morning's selections will also appear on Mary Wing's marathon premium.
  10:29am Nate K:

My favorite Naked Raygun song.
  10:30am Mark Williams:

i smell Big Black around the corner...
Avatar 10:31am Cheri Pi:

Avatar 10:33am bobdoesthings:

Chris have you ever done an 1986 show? For us 29 year olds of the world.. just curious
Avatar 10:34am Chris M.:

@bobdoesthings: not yet but maybe next year!
Avatar 10:34am bobdoesthings:

hah. I'll just have to be patient and vigilant ..
Avatar 10:35am Claw!:

Good morning, everybody! :)
Diggin this set, Chris!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am Andrew Waterloo:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am Andrew Waterloo:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am crateslinger:

Dang. SS-20. Cincinnati. Brings back memories of the Jockey Club. Got any Musical Suicide? That was '85.
Avatar 10:46am Chris M.:

@Andrew Waterloo: he says he doesn't know it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am Polyus:

Celtic Frost's 'To Mega Therion' was also released in 1985.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am Andrew Waterloo:

Great fortune smiles upon thee.
  10:50am mark:

"Dad, you said I'd never amount to anything with my guitar playing. Well, I'm in a BAND now, and we've got an album out, so F*** you!" "What kind of a band would hire a bum like you?" "They're called Fecal Matter."
  10:51am Dad:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am crateslinger:

I was sneaking into the jockey club in '85, Jughead from SS 20 told me he was gonna f me in the a if I kept it up. Scared me half to death. Big guy, Jughead.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am Andrew Waterloo:

That Fecal Matter song was pleasantly trashy.
Avatar 11:02am Claw!:

Chris - You didn't do horoscopes yet today, did you?
Avatar 11:02am Chris M.:

@Claw!: no. should i read them?
Avatar 11:04am cheyenne_h:

I want to know whether or not I should swim today. Horoscopes please!
Avatar 11:07am Cheri Pi:

@crateslinger we were also sneaking into the jockeyclub in 1985, I didn't realize there was any other way to get in ;)
Avatar 11:08am Claw!:

Yes, Chris, please. I'm afraid I can't get on with my day until I know what to expect. I'm kind of paralyzed with fear til then.
Avatar 11:08am Cheri Pi:

Should I go swimming today?
Avatar 11:09am Chris M.:

ok by popular request please stay tuned today for horoscopes from this date in 1985!
Avatar 11:09am d¢ pät:

Pi: No, drink 4 martinis and go to bed.
Avatar 11:10am cheyenne_h:

@Cheri Pi I'm wondering the same thing!
Avatar 11:14am d¢ pät:

I guess I was playing in garage bands and going to see hardcore shows in '85...in Harrisburg, PA area.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am crateslinger:

wow, cheri. I bet we know a lot of the same people...
Avatar 11:17am Cheri Pi:

Yep I'm sure we do, 'tis a small world.
Avatar 11:18am Chris from DC:

Yes, I was waiting for the Mekons!

Avatar 11:22am Chris M.:

the Mekons doc is GREAT! i hope everyone sees it
Avatar 11:22am d¢ pät:

  11:22am Mark Williams:

and the Fall. Just about the only band you could play a selection from for every year since, what, 1977?
Avatar 11:22am Cheri Pi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am Greg from Bloomfield:

I agree with Cheri.

Has anybody ever done a Fall song at Hoof & Mouth?
Avatar 11:27am d¢ pät:

wonder what match that was where some people were thinking it's all over...
  11:28am Mark Williams:

something from the early '70s, I think. Sounds like a sample pulled from the Match of the Days or summat.
