Avatar 3:01pm Sem Chumbo:

Is this the right room for an argument?
Avatar 3:02pm V Priceless:

Hey Irwin! Fab job of "Final Solution' w/H&M, plus I must say I found your traditional grip to be particularly refreshing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Uncle Michael:

Irwin, you look like you disagree with what you're reading.
  3:07pm r i s k y:

Oh Irwin, this track is heart right now.
Thank you.
Avatar 3:09pm glenn:

kinda like coals to newcastle, no?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...as a last resort...a defensible premise ??
Avatar 3:11pm glenn:

anyway, if the argument is whether those pesky kids should get off of your lawn, just look at them like that and you've won.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm common:

great job on the skins sunday, irwin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Caryn:

The writer seems to lack faith in his method. "How to WIN Arguments! ... Well, over 50 % of the time. I guess."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm pacific standard simon:

I'm suffering from post-Marathon FMU burn-out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Uncle Michael:

I'm reconstituting with Gatorade(tm) by the gallon, Simon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Caryn:

Still haven't managed to get back to a regular sleeping rhythm. Hopefully, tonight I can go to bed after 7SD, rather than just having a catnap at 6 a.m. again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm pacific standard simon:

That works. I'm gobbling miso ramen with kale, sweet potato, and egg.
  3:21pm Ike:

Didn't we reach the required pledge threshold to get rid of Irwin and replace him w/Pseu and/or Lamin? Oh wait... maybe that was a fever dream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Andrew Waterloo:

I imagine most arguments are pointless and not winnable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Caryn:

@Andrew: Funnily enough, some people might want to argue that point with you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm pacific standard simon:

Jon Langford! He's wonderful!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Andrew Waterloo:

@Caryn, but there's no way they truly disagree with me :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm pacific standard simon:

You could publish an ebook on Amazon called, "How To Avoid Arguments". It would consist of pictures of people with their mouths shut and their hands tied.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm fleep:

I have no recollection of any of these people.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm Parq:

Just now opening the playlist. That picture is colossal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm Andrew Waterloo:

PSS, I dunno about that, somebody might interpret that as a form of protest. You might be able to dress in a bird costume and wave. That might do it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm pacific standard simon:

Man, I can't wait to join the animated avatar club. Guess I gotta pay my pledge bill first.
  3:32pm adam:

Irwin! Stephen Steinbrink! he played here in New Bruns last yr, sounded as amazing as this recording.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Irwin:

adam: recent discovery. He's a terrific songwriter.
  3:34pm adam:

Agreed! btw, thank you for Langely Schools
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm chris:

Nice job, simon! we can't wait to have you join us. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm pacific standard simon:

Monday after the Marathon always feels like the day after a birthday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Andrew Waterloo:

It's a good club
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm redkayak:

Good afternoon, all!
Avatar 3:46pm Erella:

Hello Irwin!!
I missed the beginning of that. Which Monkee's song was it that you guys covered with the Hoof and Mouth?
I love songs with odd time signatures.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm pacific standard simon:

I used to get science fiction fanzines from Langford's brother, Dave.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Irwin:

See the playlist, Erella.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm pacific standard simon:

She's dead, Jim.
Avatar 3:52pm JakeGould:

I shall do neither, Pacific Standard Simon. I have killed my lead singer and my friend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Irwin:

Kevin Ayers tune sung by DJ Stashu at H&M.
  3:53pm MONEYBAG$:

is Casey Jones up next ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm fleep:

Is that a Luxuria Erella? Or is there room in the world for two Erellas...
Avatar 3:53pm V Priceless:

Woo! Mr. Ayers! Great to hear DJ Stashu cover this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm chris:

Here's the marathon finale playlist that Irwin mentioned, Erella: www.wfmu.org...
Avatar 3:55pm JakeGould:

@Irwin: Good to know, honestly the audio on that performance was Scott Williams vocal heavy. Barely heard Stashu on the stream.
Avatar 3:56pm conkrete dawg:

Chusid: enjoyed your Final Solution
Avatar 3:57pm cosmic matrix:

@JakeGould: That was so unfortunate! ....not the best pitch either
Avatar 3:58pm cosmic matrix:

but hey, at least they were up there....i don't mean to be a jerk
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...very 'musical' finale (& less spectacle)??
...'You Set the Scene' by Love was both ambitious & lovely...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Irwin:

Thanks, dawg. It was my 2nd choice. The 1st choice sounded so lame in early rehearsal I dropped it and won't even name it. I lacked the soul for that song, but embodied the inherent sense of mediocrity required for "Final Solution" to resonate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm pacific standard simon:

Was that the version of "Religious Experience" with Syd Barrett on guitar?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Irwin:

No Syd.
  3:59pm G:

William Rusher. Oldtime National Review dude.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Lizardner Dave:

That Kevin Ayers song is the embodiment of "hippie noise". That's not an insult because I'm not Andy Breckman.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Irwin:

G: Publisher for 30 years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm RZ:

Hi all! Great show, as usual, Irwin!
  4:04pm G:

I knew that. Just being humble about my knowledge base lol. NR slammed my grandfather the NLRB judge for a decision he rendered the week I was born, Oct 57, two years after NR started. (I'm the only rebel in the family.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Irwin:

G: Sorry to learn of your birth trauma. You recovered? All good?
Avatar 4:06pm Ryab:

I've been excited for this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm fleep:

These are all real names and places in Southern California, btw.
  4:07pm G:

My father named me after the other side in the decision, and I'm still stuck with the initials :)
Avatar 4:08pm conkrete dawg:

"Take the 5 to the 10 to the 110 to tne Slauson cutoff, get out, cut off your Slauson..."
Avatar 4:10pm Ryab:

I'd certainly avoid that area too.
  4:10pm G:

High 405 will take you from the Boom Boom Room
To Interstate 5 which goes right to the San Diego Zoo

(Stephin Merritt)
  4:12pm CP:

Irwin you rocked Hoof n Mouth on the Drums. Really good playing this year. Added power!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- Is that G who used to Post all the time??
...If so - missed you & your intelligence, man.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Irwin:

CP: I had the *snap* in my wrists! Felt good.
Avatar 4:13pm JakeGould:

@conkretedawg: Be careful with the Carson references. you’re veering close to Bruce Vilanch territory.
  4:15pm Tommy:

This can either be incredibly scary and onomis or incredible funny . I have head this one before so I'm finding it hilarious
Avatar 4:15pm conkrete dawg:

art fern!
  4:16pm G:

@RRN63: Yes, this is the Ur-G. Moved last April, that was a big change -- relationship stuff also changed (subtractions, additions), also got an iphone and tried using that for FMU -- wasn't the same as using my work laptop for commenting... Made an effort to come back before the marathon this year...
  4:16pm Tommy:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm chris:

this happens pretty much every day in LA, i understand...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm fleep:

On a light day, yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...in L.A. - I guess instead of Weather - you get Traffic Reports
...& tremors...& fires...& droughts...& smog & riots
...well SoCal is Paradise aside from those...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Uncle Michael:

If you crashed here, you'd be home by now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm SeanG:

Avatar 4:25pm Polyus:

Navigating the L.A. freeway system as an out-of-towner is. . .exhilarating.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Uncle Michael:

Joe attended my bar mitzvah?
Avatar 4:31pm glenn:

he was the guy in the yarmulke.
  4:34pm P-90:

Joe's backing music loops are always so right-on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- in background - reminded how fine Ali Farke Toure w/ Ry Cooder is in playing, recording & all (hopefully not over-familiar in International Music circles)...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Ali Ibrahim "Farka" Touré (October 31, 1939 – March 7, 2006) was a Malian singer and multi-instrumentalist...
  4:38pm G:

The highways and their interchanges in NY/NJ (left exit, anyone?) are no picnic. I had quite the learning curve after I started driving hereabouts in the 90s...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm chris:

RR1163, when this album came out in the 90s, it was on almost constant rotation in the household. Still sounds awesome.
Avatar 4:48pm Ryab:

My first time hearing it. Fffff
  4:52pm marc:

This is excellent
Avatar 4:53pm Ryab:

stack those prepositions
  4:55pm P-90:

"...all the way to Anaheim, Azusa, and Cucamonga!"
  4:55pm x:

Joe Frank should be the voice of my GPS
  4:56pm marc:

Didn't the WFMU DJ Kenny G do this a few summers ago? I think he read WINS traffic reports.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Webhamster Henry:

I'm now hearing in my head a Joe Frank production of "Rabbit Season, Duck Season"
Avatar 4:57pm Ryab:

I wish I had heard this when it was first being aired.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Stevel:

Never getting the Funk out of efd's family.
  5:05pm Ike:

Don't forget, they were dictionary magnates, too.
  5:05pm Fredericks:

Funk & Wagnell?
  5:06pm Fredericks:

Ike, great minds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm Uncle Michael:

This mic bed and Irwin's voice; a combination a little too hypnotic for the cubicle, if you follow me.
  5:06pm P-90:

I've always been curious to know if efd is also a descendent of Casimir Funk, who "discovered" vitamin C.
  5:06pm Fredericks:

Breathe, Unk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Stevel:

UM: I too suffer from the droopy-head affliction. Irwin's dulcet tones do nothing to help.
  5:07pm Tommy:

I actually thought Evan FUNK Davies should have played on the Grand FUNK Railroad song Clay Pigeon did at the Hoof in Mouth on Sunday..not that you weren't' excellent
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm efd:

Thanks Irwin, I hope that slows the steady stream of questions to something resembling more of a trickle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm Sigurður:

Listen very carefully . .
  5:08pm P-90:

I also thought it might be a nickname relating to physical qualities, like the legendary guitarist Jeff Skunk Baxter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Irwin:

Tommy: I'm Clay's designated drummer.

EFD: I constantly have to deal with people asking me if I'm the OTHER Irwin Chusid.
  5:10pm P-90:

silly me
  5:10pm Tommy:

What an honor that must be
Avatar 5:11pm Dominick:

Polka (for String Quartet) was often used as a music bed under 1950 TV broadcasts of silent TerryToons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...lessee - he drums, & his nickname is 'Funk'...my inclination would be to go out on a limb w/ Occam's razor here, but I like easy answers...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& I like mixing metaphors on limbs w/ razors, but again, that's me...
  5:17pm Listening Out There:

Has anyone ever seen the film that includes this Miles Davis piece? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0051378/?ref_=nv_sr_4 Just curious whether the film is any good...
  5:18pm Derek:

Hi Irwin my girlfriend wants to know the drummer on the Miles Davies track, if you can ,thanks.
Avatar 5:18pm Ryab:

I'm curious if that Miles movie starring Don Cheadle will be good.
  5:20pm Listening Out There:

Oopsy. "Davis". Pardon my typos. Dang Lenovo keyboard...
  5:20pm Listener Robert:

You think you got confusion? Try Robert Goodman. Just today Andrea Michel & I were getting straight which I was of the 2 of those that she knew.

Even with my middle initial, there's a famous scientist in my field.
  5:21pm Listener Robert:

But my friend Nancy Wilson's probably got me beat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Miles Davis – trumpet
Barney Wilen – tenor saxophone
René Urtreger – piano
Pierre Michelot – bass
Kenny Clarke – drums
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Irwin:

Ryab: Kenny Clarke on drums on the Miles track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Irwin:

If you like Griot Galaxy, check out a YT clip of them performing "Androgeny" at the Metro Times Music Awards, 1984. Great band, terrific drummer, and they're a lot of fun to watch. Very Sun Ra-inspired.
Avatar 5:24pm Marcel M:

Ahhh a book on sophistry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Griot Galaxy[1] was an avant-garde jazz band led by Detroit saxophonist and poet Faruq Z. Bey. The band was founded in 1972 with drummer Tariq Samad, bassist Jaribu Shahid, and saxophonists Bey, Anthony Holland and David McMurray.
  5:27pm Derek:

Thanks, Irwin
  5:28pm Fredericks:

Thanks for the jazz, Emperor.
  5:28pm Fredericks:

Great minds, Derek.
  5:32pm Listening Out There:

Saw an article a while back about members who've been in The Fall. One of the funniest things I've ever read...
Avatar 5:35pm Polyus:

I saw Faruq Z. Bey perform in 2009, a year or two before he passed away. Even sitting down and with oxygen tubes in his nose, he played his butt off. Said it before, but I am surprised that someone hasn't seen fit to reissue Griot Galaxy records, as they seem pretty hard to come by.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Irwin:

Entropy Stereo issued a 2-cd set of live material, LIVE AT THE D.I.A. Good quality recording.
  5:38pm Derek:

Hi Fredricks,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Neil:

This msr song has the same backing track as Best Behind the Wheel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Webhamster Henry:

This is a fun video.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Irwin:

Gotye is immensely talented. Deep music enthusiast. Nice guy, too. And he's a DRUMMER.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Irwin:

Avatar 5:54pm Ryab:

Irwin you have great taste.
  5:56pm Tommy:

and BTW fantastic show !!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Irwin:

And I'm smooth and mild!
  5:57pm Ike:

Another 7SD rerun? Why couldn't we have an hour of Kelly Jones and/or Pseu insulting Irwin and/or Breckman instead?
  5:57pm Listening Out There:

Goes Down E-Z
  5:58pm Mark:

This Piana track is beautiful as this gloomy afternoon slowly fades into nothingness.
  5:59pm Mark:

Roll end credits
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Great show today, as always, Irwin. Nice work at Hoof & Mouth, too. Have a good week.
  5:59pm Listening Out There:

You can tune a Piana / But you can't tuna fish
  6:00pm Listening Out There:
