I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

...and hi Bryce and earthlings.
Avatar 12:35pm cheyenne_h:

I was thinking of Plastics yesterday!! Thanks for the mind-meld, Bryce!
  12:37pm Dean:

I confess I've never been a huge Star Trek fan, but Nimoy has always loomed iconic. It is hard to imagine a world -- any world -- without him.
Avatar 12:37pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Splitting early. Will keep Brycin' on walkabout via app & stream.
Be groovy, troops.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Polyus:

Of course, young co-worker just said "who"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm common:

just ran across my leonard nimoy cd 2 days ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm coelacanth:

the original star trek was a huge part of my childhood. i used the terms,"probably";"possibly";"practical";& "logical" a lot! (that amused my teachers)
  12:47pm Brendan:

If i had a hammer... Oh Leonard ... That golden throat
Avatar 12:50pm Cecile:

When babysitting in HS, I tried to convince a kid to stop picking on his little sister. I told him "Be logical here, just ignore her." He went "SHUT UP. YOU SOUND LIKE MR. SPOCK."
Avatar 12:52pm doca:

When I was in 7th grade I decided I should be logical just like Spock. Needless to say I wasn't a very popular kid back then
Avatar 12:53pm d¢ pät:

yeah, "logical" and "rational" came directly from ST.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm DCE:

great Miles track. RIP Leonard!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Carmichael:

Yes BDR, Spock was not Herbert. But he was "one".
Avatar 12:56pm d¢ pät:

Avatar 12:57pm Jeff:

Those pedals are wiggling my vitals.
  12:57pm CP:

That Miles was incredible. And I love Messiaen, especially as interpreted by George Bennette. Oh, Spock. The world will not be the same. You have been beamed up. Warp 9, Bryce. Warp 9.
Avatar 12:59pm Cecile:

You've made a Messiaen, Ollie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm coelacanth:

i like this commemoration. i'm glad i'm not alone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm northguineahills:

Miles to Messiaen segue worked perfectly!
Avatar 1:05pm doca:

@CP: You wrote just like Uncle Leo right now "Warp 9, Bryce, WARP 9"
  1:06pm Brendan:

Funny but the two things I remember most about Spock were when he was experiencing emotion. When he experienced love and climbed a tree in joy, and when
Jim fell asleep heartbroken over lost love, Spock looked into his mind and his face expressed the ultimate pain. He said 'forget' and wiped that from Jims memory as he slept as the show ended. F'ing eh... Shakesperean.
  1:07pm I k e:

Meant to comment several tracks ago: "Bryce is playing songs! With a beat!" like a dingus as if that never happens, but work the way
  1:08pm I k e:

*work GOT IN the way
Avatar 1:10pm Bryce:

i know, i just found about about songs! are there many of them? i'll have to check the library
Avatar 1:11pm βrian:

Ach, I missed the bird man Messiaen!
Good afternoon.
Avatar 1:12pm Cecile:

Beats like a Dingus. Good name for a band.
  1:14pm Inquiring Mind:

Has John Williams ever composed really "out there" stuff? Is he underrated? Overrated? I've been thinking of him lately, wondering if we take him for granted. RIP Nimoy
  1:20pm Dean:

Charlemagne Palestine has a ton of records. My collection includes precisely one of them. This one.
Avatar 1:22pm Cecile:

John Williams has composed some nice sounding trad-jazzy kind of scores. Never anything completely crazy. But he 's a fun composer, if somewhat formalistic.
Avatar 1:23pm βrian:

According to Social Security Online:
"Charlemagne is not in the top 1000 names for any year of birth in the last 100 years."

This needs to change.
Avatar 1:23pm Bryce:

oh nooo, dean! and i'm sitting here, looking at about 20 charlemagne palestine CDs.

by the way, he's in new york for his 75th, and playing with tony conrad this thursday —

Avatar 1:23pm Chris from DC:

Ooh, tuned in just in time.
Avatar 1:26pm Bryce:

the Sinfonietta for Wind Ensemble's pretty, unstartreklike. pretty composerly, but dramatic.....

  1:26pm Inquiring Mind:

TY Cecile. Always enjoy the knowledge you impart here.
Avatar 1:27pm Bryce:

from the dept. of minutiae: his dad was the drummer in the raymond scott quintette
Avatar 1:27pm Cecile:

I like his score for Catch Me If You Can. Light, boppy and fun.
  1:28pm Old Hippy:

This is reminding me of Rick Wakeman on Close To The Edge. My listening experiences are so limited, hence I come to Bryce for enlightenment and manners lessons.
Avatar 1:28pm Bryce:

  1:29pm Dean:

You mean unstarwarslike, I assume. There's also the other John Williams, the guitarist, who also writes his own stuff, here performed by another guitarist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxllnQd8L44 Of the two Williams, I way prefer the axeman.
  1:30pm Dean:

Yes, Old Hippy! Or even Tales: "Dawn of light lying between a silence and sold sources..."
  1:31pm βrian:

Beware the loop guru!
Avatar 1:31pm the Canterbury wood-elf:

Tales! I so loved that record. I wonder what it would sound like if I listened now...
  1:32pm Mr. Frost:

John William's dad drummed for Raymond Scott? Wow. I was told his dad was Hank Williams.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Tome:

good afternoon ,, let's ring out February with organ grinds yes ..
Avatar 1:33pm Cecile:

no, Hank Williams's son is Hank Williams Jr. I wish it were otherwise
  1:35pm Dean:

@Canterbury: Steve Howe is stellar on Tales. Well worth another spin. And the percussive funkiness of "Ritual" remains something of an outlier for Yes.
  1:35pm βrian:

I could listen to this all day, if only to memorize the lyrics.
Avatar 1:36pm Bryce:

is this roger dean?? :)
  1:36pm rev. turnip druid:

back. Palestine makes superior city walking musics.
  1:36pm Mr. Frost:

It is Hipgnosis.

  1:41pm Dad:

Anyone have perfect pitch? I'm hearing F#.
Avatar 1:42pm Chris from DC:

This is probably the only thing keeping me calm at the moment. Thanks Bryce.
Avatar 1:43pm doca:

I'm hearing BZZZzzzzZZZZZzzzZZ minor.

I'm kidding, there are some changes of pitch that are really interesting. It's quite a fast changing drone
Avatar 1:44pm Bryce:

really wish i could catch him this thurs. his stuff sounds nice on recordings but is seriously trippy in person. (if you're sitting in a good spot)
  1:45pm Ken of Brooklyn:

Avatar 1:51pm V Priceless:

grand music for Spock to assimilate into the electro-magnetic fabric of the Universe!
Avatar 1:53pm βrian:

Indeed. The Final Fromage.
  1:53pm Dean:

It's such a pisser that we now have to disambiguate "drone."
Avatar 1:54pm Bryce:

if only we could fly charlemagne over waziristan
Avatar 1:55pm the Canterbury wood-elf:

I'm part of an improv collective called "Children of the Drone", and if you Google that now you mostly get pictures of horribly injured children in Pakistan and Yemen. Most depressing...
Avatar 1:56pm βrian:

BBC: "People should listen to music for no more than one hour a day to protect their hearing, the World Health Organization suggests."
  1:56pm Dean:

  1:57pm Dean:

What was the band with the lyric, "Hope I die before I get hard of hearing"?
  1:57pm Ken of Brooklyn:

Avatar 2:01pm d¢ pät:

WHO are jerks. Well Townshend is anyway...
Avatar 2:02pm Mister Dobalina:

Is the CD skipping ?
Avatar 2:02pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Playing this Palestine thing on iPhone app + iTunes with speakers in different places is making the room most lovely. Slight time-lag between the two helps tremendously.
  2:02pm Dean:

@V, Right, ear detergent.

The BBC article is about *headphones* and *ear buds*, it seems. FFS, of course stuffing a reverse-colostomy pouch hose in your ear risks injury!
Avatar 2:05pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

can't stand ear "buds" -- In all of life, have used 'em maybe 2 minutes total. The sensation is disturbing in the extreme.
  2:06pm Dean:

Amen, Turnip.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Polyus:

That is what I listen to WFMU roughly 40 hours per week on. Oops.
  2:06pm Roger:

I got buds crammed in right now. Beige coloured ones from Micronesia. Got 'em maxed-out.
Avatar 2:07pm Bryce:

Avatar 2:07pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

whoa, there must be a 20-second or so delay between 128 stream & the app. Based on the legal ID. Need about six more time-delayed playbacks of th'Palestine thing now...
  2:08pm JakeGould:

Avatar 2:09pm βrian:

Legal IDs should never interrupt a piece. Damn the FCC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm common:

  2:14pm Von:

Heard right wing talk radio this morning railing on the FCC and Net Neutrality as a government takeover of the internet. There angle was, "It can't be any good if you don't have to pay for it."
  2:15pm Dean:

Great tribute to Nimoy: http://www.esquire.com/news-politics/politics/news/a33393/rip-leonard-nimoy/

Avatar 2:16pm Milson:

"WFMU... it can't be any good, if you don't have to pay for it."

Wait, that sounds horrible!?
  2:18pm Stripey:

  2:19pm Dean:

Oy. But of course we *do* pay for it, e.g., when we funded DARPA way back when, and now when we fund the FCC to administer the rules!

Love that nuclear autoharp he was playing VP, and her musical steering wheel.
Avatar 2:38pm V Priceless:

yeah CP! The steering wheel / bicycle wheel gizmo - ha! Redeeming to know that in the future, the music will sound like psychedelic rock circa 1967, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm common:
