Avatar 10:09am Roberto:

BTW I was 3 years old in '95. Give or take a decimal place.
Avatar 10:10am glenn:

i think you mean a zero, not a decimal place.
Avatar 10:11am Chris M.:

@Greg from Bloomfield: sounds like a perfect storm!
Avatar 10:11am Sem Chumbo:

Windows '95, Start Me Up. An unGodly pairing then, and in retrospect.
Avatar 10:11am Roberto:

Well if the decimal place were moved to the right, I suppose a zero would need to fill the resulting space.
Avatar 10:13am PKNY:

Going clicky-star crazy, so '95 was a better year than I remembered!

In 1995 I still thought it would be fun to live out of an Econoline. Only took another year or two to completely cleanse me of that notion.
Avatar 10:39am glenn:

well yeah, everybody knows that v.w. vans are the only vans to live in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am DCE:

speaking of vans...that was the year AFTER I bought a '70 Econoline. Didn't live out of it but I sure drove it all over.

In 1995 I was living in Williamsburg and working as a bike messenger. I wore a beard and roasted my own single origin coffee beans. But I was pretty lonely because no one thought I was cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am DCE:

flat as a pancake, Polyus...don't see many of them any more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am Polyus:

(oh, and by living out of one, I mean traveling all over in it playing to bored bartenders and nobody else. In 1995 it seemed like most everyone hated loud music)

Avatar 10:48am d¢ pät:

oh yeah Polyus, I remember that. I had a similar routine but more sedentary. Had a regular gig Friday nights in town here. It was pretty good. But mostly playing to the same 20 friends.
Avatar 10:48am Marcel M:

@Ottovonbqe, rather...
Avatar 10:49am Marcel M:

Getting your own friends to come to shows is the hardest part about being an NYC musician.
Avatar 10:50am d¢ pät:

well when I say "20" I mean anywhere between 1 and 5.
Avatar 10:50am Marcel M:

Woah, footloose!
Avatar 10:50am Marcel M:

Oh I'm familiar with the rounding up methods of the said crowd at a performance
Avatar 10:52am d¢ pät:

Had some gigs at art spaces though where we had (not kidding) hundreds. Those were the pinnacle of my musician career. It's amazing how thirsty people get for RAWK after having to deal with performance art.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am Andrew Waterloo:

Well, the guy that showed up alone and shuffled around to 4 different tables counts as 4. The couple that switch from wine to beer count as 4. It all makes sense in the end.
Avatar 10:54am Marcel M:

Exactly Andrew. Also, if there are a ton of people there, then you aren't underground/obscure, which is not cool.
Avatar 10:55am d¢ pät:

yeah but if more than 50 people show up, you don't care about that shit anymore.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am Andrew Waterloo:

Avatar 11:02am bobdoesthings:

@chris m - or the way they break wild horses is to just put them in a pull of water up to their shoulders and they thrash and kick until they tire themselves out.. then they get a saddle put on them... Just do that with headphones and wfmu.
  11:03am Beano:

I think it's better if you gentle the listeners.
Avatar 11:04am Chris M.:

@Beano i agree
  11:04am Beano:

At the gym this morning, they were playing some Katy Perry song (I think). A slow number about being wide awake. At the same time, I was listening to "Children of the Sun" by Billy Thorpe. It occurred to me that those songs might make a good mash-up. Maybe they wouldn't ...I don't know.
