Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Clay Pigeon - Washington's Birthday
That's it for this episode of The Dusty Show. Thank you for checking it out, and if you are reading this, thank you for your extra layer of interest. I had a cold the last couple of days and it's lingering. And it's cold outside. And Marathon is coming, and I am behind. Way behind ... newsflash91.1 - CC7 is behind schedule. There. I said it. It's behins schedule. I haven't even culled the songs that will be featured on this lucky seventh edition. No artwoek yet, no bonus CD. So much to do and so little time,

With this being said, I want you to know that I do miss (to a degree) the highly edited analog shows. But, my tape player is down and I need to reach the only repairman I know who is perhap fifty miles and several yards away. Mark Slaughter. The Magic Man. I also miss the street interviews but it has been so cold that it precludes much outdoor taping. Indoors, there always blaring some music and you KNOW how I like to put my own musical selections in the background. And how about that freaking KISS tonight, huh? How 'bout it, Huh? How about the job it did tonight, Huh? I had never actually heard The Elder before. Well, maybe I have heard "I" which is from The Elder, so it's not completely true. But I certainly had NOT heard Odyssey and I am really impressed with it and with the production job Bob Ezrin did. The only KISS LP that isn't certified Gold. Figures it would be good, huh? How bout' it, huh? Anyway ... I guess that's it. I thank you again for listening. Drop me a line sometime. I'd love to hear from some familiar and some new people. dusty@wfmu.org ... you can also find me on Facebook at Pigeonnaires. It might be Pigoennaires39 or something like that. I don;t have the stinking link. I am also on Twitter Claypigeon@WFMU and .... that's all .... good night ... take care .... always remember ... Leslie Gore ... Hunter S. Thompson ... Gene Siskel ... Sandra Dee

greetings all... The Elder, Kiss's best album!
Avatar 6:03pm Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm Matt from Springfield:

Give us a KISS, love!
Evening Clay and Pigeonnaires!
  6:03pm V Priceless:

Hey Clay!
Avatar 6:03pm dale:

Avatar 6:03pm Marcel M:

There is a child in a sundress looking at a rainy sky… Wow… So deep.
  6:04pm V Priceless:

What is this?
Avatar 6:04pm MenfussMike:

I absolutely LOVE this song and album. It is in fact a cover song. The Elder was to be a movie with Chris Makepeace as the "hero" character. Lou Reed co-wrote a few songs on this album. Some of the heaviest and lightest material ever released by the band all wrapped up in one concept record
Avatar 6:04pm Cecile:

I'm glad all ya'll like it.
Avatar 6:05pm dale:

this sounds like they're trying to be the moody blues or something.
Avatar 6:05pm Cecile:

Avatar 6:05pm glenn:

worst band evah.
Avatar 6:05pm MenfussMike:

it almost sounds like the opening to Hill Street Blues
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm Fuzzy:

  6:05pm V Priceless:

Ok got it. Transition to app always rocky in terms of real time!
Avatar 6:06pm MenfussMike:

i think that's Bob Ezrin on the keys
Avatar 6:06pm david_:

Paul Stanley singing more in Gene Simmons' range.
  6:06pm V Priceless:

Did Ezrin produce this?
  6:06pm Gee Lampa:

You know Lou Reed wrote many lyrics on this.
Avatar 6:06pm Cecile:

yeah, and it sounds like he's straining
Avatar 6:06pm Cecile:

VP, "a coked out Bob Ezrin"
Avatar 6:07pm dale:

seriously - listen to the blue jays album by lodge and hayward and it's this 5 years earlier.
Avatar 6:07pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Working late today.
Don't hurt me, pidge.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm steve:

Avatar 6:07pm david_:

straining, Cecile? I think you mean, "shining!" ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm Carmichael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Matt from Springfield:

Frank Yankovich was not Weird Al's Dad. Same name, and Al's Dad had him take lessons, since "at least one of our Yankovich's should play the accordion".

Avatar 6:11pm Cecile:

yes. King Crimson don't suck.
they have an edge and are unpredictable
Avatar 6:12pm glenn:

that depends. is kate considered part of the family?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Matt from Springfield:

Weird Al is a great parodist though, and really a great guy.

@dale: Renaissance!
  6:12pm Gee Lampa:

Crimson is nastier, and more improvisational. David Cross.
Avatar 6:12pm Cecile:

discipline is a great damn record
Avatar 6:12pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I hate to pull the predictable old DC punk routine, but first show was Suicidal Tendencies at the old 9:30 club, circa 1984. Quite a trip for a pencil-necked kid...
Avatar 6:13pm david_:

think about it from Kiss's point of view... personnel changes, they don't know what to do, and have the freedom to make a concept album... I'd do it, even if it sucked!
Avatar 6:13pm northguineahills:

I have a nice record of Derek Bailey w/ Jamie Muir.
  6:13pm Gee Lampa:

Fripp screwed Belew, this go round. Belew is every bit the player.
Avatar 6:13pm glenn:

ya know, i always that frankie was weird al's uncle, but apparently they're not related.
Avatar 6:13pm Slick Goldtooth:

I heard Henry Rollins worked at a Hagen Dags when he was in DC as a teen
Avatar 6:14pm Cecile:

I would too, david
Avatar 6:14pm dale:

But seriously, that sounds like an excellent show!
Avatar 6:14pm glenn:

does anyone else get defensive for Clay when people call him "Dusty?" I know he doesn't mind it anymore...

"At that time he was simply trying to find a way to talk, to communicate with other people. That's what Trans is all about. And that's why, on that record, you know I'm saying something but you can't understand what it is. Well, that's exactly the same feeling I was getting from my son."
  6:52pm JakeGould:

“We didn't spend as much time recording Re-ac-tor as we should've. The life of both that record and the one after it - Trans - were sucked up by the regime we'd committed ourselves to. See, we were involved in this programme with my young son Ben for 18 months which consumed between 15 and 18 hours of every day we had. It was just all-encompassing and it had a direct effect on the music of Re-ac-tor and Trans. You see, my son is severely handicapped, and at that time was simply trying to find a way to talk, to communicate with other people. That's what Trans is all about. And that's why, on that record, you know I'm saying something but you can't understand what it is. Well, that's the exact same feeling I was getting from my son.” www.thrasherswheat.org...

Hey, Clay, what fun do you have in store for the upcoming marathon? How do the DJs get paired up? Do you guys select them or management assign the pairs?

I really liked that Bush song before. My first concert was. little basement coffee house in cranford nj performance by Buzzy Linhart, fall 1972. I was 14 years old aspiring to be a rock star myself.

Thanks Matt, nice to see you keeping the NoVA flame burning on Clays message board. I love the Governor DimWitty from Virginia in the story being played now, hmmm, seems to be a tradition to the Governor's mansion in Richmond!
