Options Brian Turner: Playlist from February 10, 2015 Options

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Avatar 3:25pm ironybread:

Did the Gary Kail / Zurich 1916 ‎"Creative Nihilism" LP I rescued from eBay ever arrive? PayPal shows in my transaction history that I sent the seller a payment on 12/10, but eBay has no record that I bought it. I think eBay is smoking crack. Anyway, I hope it showed up in your PO Box.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm sphere:

@ironybread: perhaps a time traveller snagged it.
Avatar 3:26pm Brian Turner:

It sure did, and it's back in the library, severe thanks for that rescue operation!
Avatar 3:27pm Mugsy:

You know you have the greatest listeners in the world BT
  3:29pm Ike:

Beautiful racket BT, thanks
Avatar 3:30pm coelacanth:

Mugsy was that,a few posts ago, to me? (or should i be worried?!)
Avatar 3:35pm ironybread:

Sweet, now it can make its way slowly back into the avant-garde hit parade!
Avatar 3:37pm Mugsy:

Yeah it was.
Avatar 3:41pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Running between meetings, missed JML's track, weeh!
  3:41pm Dean:

The Screamers were at least as impressive as the legend has it. And we miss Weasel Walter here in the Oakland area.
Avatar 3:42pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Whoa., that Gary Kail LP would be worth a rescue operation. Thanks to all concerned.
Avatar 3:46pm coelacanth:

Thank you Mugsy (unless it was sarcastic! -eh,it's okay if it was)...i was worried that that title wasn't just mine!
  3:51pm billybumpus:

Avatar 4:01pm coelacanth:

huh,i thought this was (maybe early) stereolab.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm chris:

I was getting a Stereolab hit, too... Now Tartu is on the travel destination list... If it spawns this and Muuro, it has to be groovy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm estimo:

well our couch is always open for the password wfmu!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm chris:

Oh, and hello, All! Been lurking most of the day, when not in meetings...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm steve:

Did he say "we're killing Kid Creole?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm efd:

What did Kid Creole do to Venom, I wonder.
Avatar 4:10pm Andy M.:

@clav I thought so.
  4:10pm Dean:

Ask not what Kid Creole did to Venom, but what Venom can do to Kid Creole.

  5:02pm Dean:

Plane Crash!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Uncle Michael:

I'm trying to let one of Henry's one-time collaborators know that this set is happening.
Avatar 5:10pm Sandy:

I played guitar with all these guys but not all at the same time.
Avatar 5:12pm Sandy:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm Uncle Michael:

Sandy, do you know Gary Lambert? That's who I sent word to.
Avatar 5:15pm Sandy:

I don't think I've met him.

Thanks Sandy!
  5:19pm Dean:

Band name's a riff on Evan Parker, no?
Avatar 5:20pm coelacanth:

totally digging this but unfortunately must be working too and am not hearing the quieter passages.
Avatar 5:20pm Lopez:

Today has been a sweet divergence I have to say. I love full-throated metal and punk as much as anybody, but this whole set has been great!
Avatar 5:26pm Sandy:

Good work Weasel Chris & Henry. very nice. good recording, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Carmichael:

Dean, are you in Berkeley?
  5:28pm Dean:

Yes, Carmichael.
Avatar 5:29pm northguineahills:

Henry's playing is reminding me of when Kurt did his Derek Bailey tribute a few weeks ago and did a track where Henry was playing homage to Derek, even his talking while playing style.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Carmichael:

Shit, all this time I thought you were an East Coaster. I'm a Sacramento/Davis/Winters type of guy.
  5:32pm Dean:

That's wild. I'm SoCal born and bred, NoCal for the last fourteen years. Maybe a couple comments I've made over the years about, aptly, Downtown Music Gallery, and trips to Victo gave the mistaken impression? I used to spend more time in Sacramento when friends lived there, but they're now in D.C. and Berkeley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Carmichael:

Henry's guitar appears to be an Anderson? It's a real beaut.
  5:33pm Dean:

Now there's a Bay Area roster!
Avatar 5:34pm Sandy:

I went to this recording session. Fantasy Records. Back in April I think.
Avatar 5:38pm Sandy:

Hey Dean there's going to be Plane Crash 2
  5:41pm Dean:

Great news, Sandy! The first one was a doozy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Carmichael:

Sandy, were you in Berkeley as well? And Billy Jam was just in Oakland a few weeks ago. I seem to be just up the freeway from where all the fun is.
Avatar 5:43pm Sandy:

Yeah, back in April. I was in the Bay Area a second time last year for Outsound New Music Summit back in July or August.
Avatar 5:45pm Lopez:

Can anybody identify the black metal shirt Weasel Walter's wearing in the pics? I love that this music is being performed by someone with that brutal a shirt!
Avatar 5:47pm Mugsy:

ha pitfall
Avatar 5:47pm Brian Turner:

  5:54pm Fredericks:

Kaiser sounds like if John McLaughlin and Eugene Chadbourne had a baby.
  5:55pm Fredericks:

Has anyone said that before?
  5:57pm Fredericks:

It felt weird.
  5:57pm Dean:

If you mean John McLaughlin the TV host, then yes, it has been said before.
Avatar 5:57pm Lopez:

Good call on the shirt BT, and great show today! @Fredericks - your comment is amazing (and actually on point completely)
Avatar 5:59pm coelacanth:

Thank you BT Thank you Topography of the Spleen
ciao people
