Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Thanks for listening to this episode of The Dusty Show. I enjoyed being in the studio and putting the various elements together on the fly. That's always a "rush" as they used to say. I do look forward to each Thursday at 6. Terrible things going on that we discuss on this show. ISIS and the atrocities in Africa. Heavy times. But we will get through them and make the world better in due time. Thanks for listening and tune in next week for the Abe Lincoln's Birthday/Valentimes Edition of Dusty. You are incredible. Avatar 6:06pm david_:

Avatar 6:07pm MenfussMike:

Eric Brittingham, Jeff Labar, Fred Coury
Avatar 6:07pm Slick Goldtooth:

Eeesh, that's just as bad as when my college wanted to name a dormitory building after Aaron Burr because he was from NJ
Avatar 6:07pm dale:

we should all just kill each other until canada and sweden are all that's left.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm Matt from Springfield:

@david: Remember, every President gets an aircraft carrier! No matter if we actually need another one, it's practically an insult to not give each President a carrier name!
Avatar 6:08pm MenfussMike:

is it lame that I know most of the names of the Cinderella dudes?
Avatar 6:09pm david_:

heheh, V... Obama's the best president in a generation... the problem is, that's not saying much...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm common:

cinderella, philly's own! that's great menfuss mike!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Matt from Springfield:

@Menfuss: Most places that might be the case, but don't worry, nothing's lame at WFMU! :)

Avatar 6:13pm glenn:

slick speaks truth.
Avatar 6:13pm glenn:

Avatar 6:14pm david_:

we need an aircraft carrier named after GG Allin.
Avatar 6:14pm Polyus:

Burned alive, beheaded - what's the difference Clay?

Avatar 6:15pm Slick Goldtooth:

If there's any boat that would be named after GG, it had to be a trash barge.
Avatar 6:15pm Cecile:

That was @Carm :)
And HEEYYYYYY COMMON!!

@david: The official ship of Portsmouth NH! ;)

Avatar 6:15pm e12:

always a joy to be here clay
Avatar 6:15pm david_:

ISIS hates us for our autotune.
Avatar 6:16pm dale:

had my shortwave on earlier and was listening to some kind of muslim devotional singing (whatever you would call id, not even sure if it as muslim) - quite beautiful
Avatar 6:16pm david_:

that would be legendary, Matt!
Avatar 6:16pm glenn:

and i'd rather be burned alive than gibbetted.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm Carmichael:

Dale is truly a man of the airwaves.
Avatar 6:18pm V Priceless:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Matt from Springfield:

www.theguardian.com...
www.washingtonpost.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm davex:

Great music, Clay!
  6:19pm Marcel M:

The prophet hath said to never tune ones voice automatically
  6:19pm Eric:

RE: ISIS, this whole situation was created on purpose and was achieved by disbanding the Iraqi military. Then we arm this fake army that retreats as soon as they're attacked and leaves behind all the weapons and hardware that we gave them for the terrorists to use.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm coelacanth:

i think its safe to assume there's no bullshit free nation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm Matt from Springfield:

@david: Adding on to Slick's idea, it could be a refueling ship, since oil is pretty filthy!

@Marcel: Except in North Africa there are many many Autotuners adding their own touch to their native music. In fact N. African music is the only sound that really works well under Autotune.
  6:20pm joey the sleaze:

What were that last song called?
  6:20pm SeanG:

thanks for those links Matt
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm cory:

how many people have american soldiers burned alive? what's the big deal?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm Matt from Springfield:

Well said, coelacanth!

Hi davex!
And my pleash, Sean!
Avatar 6:21pm Cecile:

Matt, there is also some great autotuned music from Ghana and Nigeria.
Avatar 6:21pm david_:

"take care" of Saddam -> "take care" of Sunni and Shia insurgents -> "take care" of Al Qaeda -> "take care" of ISIS -> ????
Avatar 6:22pm Cecile:

every country has its skeletons in the closet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm coelacanth:

i dont like "autotune" under any circumstances; except the very early tunes where it was an obvious novelty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm Matt from Springfield:

Traditionally known as "West Africa", but I'll point out that's still in the northern half of the continent, Cecile ;)

And I love the music of Ghana and Nigeria! The Francophone nations of Benin and Gabon also do AMAZING music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm coelacanth:

King Sunny Ade didn't use autotune!
Avatar 6:24pm Cecile:

I guess I wasn't lumping them in with North Africa, Matt, just saying there are other nations out there making cool music with autotune. sorry about the confustion.

No, but he used synths.
Avatar 6:24pm david_:

Every country has its Grateful Dead hits compilation... good point, Cecile. ;)
Avatar 6:25pm Cecile:

well, gotta go!
Avatar 6:25pm dale:

carmichael - the sunspot cycle is favorable again - get a little tecsun pl-660 and enjoy yourself!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm Matt from Springfield:

@Cecile: No confusion, I just make light of geography like that! You're okay!

And have a great evening!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm coelacanth:

he used lots of synth; but he used them well.

ciao,Cecile.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm davex:

Hey, Matt!

@Last caller: Great point about listening...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm davex:

What is wrong with all these angry and ignorant people?
Avatar 6:27pm dale:

Avatar 6:28pm MenfussMike:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm Matt from Springfield:

Asshole callers have been aired before but did he really say "you dumb Jew"?!?! That's just a whole 'nother ballgame now...
Avatar 6:28pm glenn:

oh boy, believing in god is what is causing this mess.
Avatar 6:28pm northguineahills:

Nuke the whales!

Gotta nuke something!
Avatar 6:29pm Polyus:

I thought he said "don't you?", in response to Clay's question.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm davex:

Those populations are being terrorized by them. Can't believe much of what I'm hearing tonight.
  6:29pm Eric:

so they're setting this all up for big show down JEB vs. ISIS, he'll do what Obama was too wus to do, and everyone has to support him because ISIS really are evil fuckers! nobody can deny that, and islamo fascism is just as bad as euro christian fascism in it's historical and current guises...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Matt from Springfield:

Incidentally there never is a good answer on tough controversies when someone begins it with "I think we should..." I can offer what I "think" we should do, but looking at these answers it's never easy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm davex:

@Matt: That's what I thought I heard too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Matt from Springfield:

@NGH: Haha, yes! Thanks for lightening this mood! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm coelacanth:

if he lost a family member,he should rage against the bush (etc) empire.
Avatar 6:30pm david_:

this caller thinks the Iran-Iraq war was still happening in 2003... ok...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm common:

thanks coelacanth
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm Matt from Springfield:

@davex: You too? Man....

Jordan is bordering Syria/ISIS, so I can understand their offensive, this is like a 9/11 to them.
Avatar 6:32pm V Priceless:

to over -simplify: abolish all religion, legalize all drugs. problems solved.
Avatar 6:33pm dale:

we created isis by making a couple of huge vacuums in those countries. and we can't keep our asses out of anybodies' business so we keep the oil flowing. we are just a bunch of selfish dumb fucks. the bush family dumber than most. but realistically clinton had intel on 9/11 and was too busy dicking around. it's not a dem/rep thing - it's selfish stupid insular chest beating americanism
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm Matt from Springfield:

Internationalized radical gang. Instead of just roughing up your block you can join a worldwide movement you heard about on the 'Net. Like street gangs, (or Nazi Germany, Clay), but more intense and harmful in scope.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm davex:

"All they understand is fear." A lot of them are nihilists from western countries on an adrenaline kick. On what basis do people make these presumptions? Is this a projection?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm Matt from Springfield:

@Polyus: I'll listen for it, I certainly hope that was the case (but I'm not betting on it...)
Avatar 6:36pm david_:

enuff z'nuff! I have this on a cassingle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm common:

enuff znuff! if my friend brian is listening right now, clay, you've made him the happiest human on earth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Philthy woman:

And what about the nonviolent people who are loosing loved ones there? Nuke um? I guess empathy does not cross the ocean for some
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm coelacanth:

V -that would work,if people would WILLINGLY give up their crutches.
Matt i think it was "dont you". then Clay's response was shaky!
  6:37pm SeanG:

remember Guiffria??
Avatar 6:38pm david_:

spot on, dale.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Carmichael:

That's how we beat the terrorists: with hair band music! Drop some Cinderella on 'em, Clay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm common:

well stated, philthy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm cory:

isn't that outlawed by the Geneva Convention Carmichael. White Lion is permitted however.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: Add Kix and Britny Fox to the sortie and we can defeat these bastards for good!!
  6:39pm Phil:

Clay, That police officer is uninformed with respect to where Oil is. It's not a black thing. Nigeria is a member of opec and #13 in global production - It's bonny light crude is also considered some of the best available. We didn't intervene there because it's hard to distinguish friend from foe, in spite of Michelle Obama's feckless pleading. We did not intervene in Sudan and this is a growing producer in spite of the egregious human riots violations committed in darfur. I understand it's almost reflexive for african americans to blame someone else when some unexplainable issue confronts them but get your facts straight when assigning blame. This applies to when cops don't get indicted for shooting criminals in MO or the US intervening in another nation's affairs uninvited like Nigeria or Sudan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Matt from Springfield:

@cory: Because they have a *conscience*!...

Ha ha, Clay knows Guiffria! :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm common:

i had the first guiffria on the cassettes.
Avatar 6:41pm cosmic matrix:

YYYEEESS!!!! it's happening again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm cory:

i'm feeling like a grumpy butthole. imma wander of and do things
Avatar 6:43pm glenn:

you'll never, ever, ever defeat terrorists. it's best to just accept that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm Philthy woman:

AghhhhhhYES! Dusty radio musical play- much needed right now. Liftin us up Dusty!
  6:45pm Grim:

Don't take headlines at face value. ISIS is a CIA creation used to justify endless global war. It's like no one has seen Wag the Dog or the pilot episode of The Lone Gunmen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm Matt from Springfield:

@glenn: Or, don't try to "defeat terrorists": instead don't let them defeat you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm Carmichael:

I think the LSD I took during Fabio's show is kicking in ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm Matt from Springfield:

@Philthy: I've called these one-man recordings "Pigeon Public Radio" :)
Avatar 6:46pm dale:

these are little operettas. gilbert and sullivan and pigeon!
Avatar 6:46pm glenn:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: Dude, my water must be spiked then!...

@dale: "Operettas", that's it!
Avatar 6:47pm V Priceless:

@ Grim: OMG! I can't believe you mentioned that pilot episode of The Lone Gunman! That's haunted me for ages!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm common:

do you transcribe these works, clay? just tryin to imagine how you does do it.
Avatar 6:47pm glenn:

torpor!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

This show was making me sad, but with plenty of lip stiffener I have returned to glee.
Avatar 6:47pm david_:

Gilbert O'Sullivan
  6:47pm Malky:

@Phil One of the many reasons why the US didn't do any real intervention in Darfur region was due to not pissing off China who happens to own one of many cheque books. China got land, resource, and water rights in exchange for giving arms and gear to militias that were displacing people.

Here's a great bbc article on China's involvement in the region, http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7503428.stm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Carmichael:

The Lone Gunmen were totally cool!
Avatar 6:48pm cosmic matrix:

wow, THIS IS SO GOOD. as usual....
Avatar 6:48pm glenn:

clay's picked up his game since hearty's been on wfmu. :)
Avatar 6:48pm V Priceless:

"men"..that pilot..whoa! Long-forgotten by most, but too creepy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Alan from Sac:

how has everyone dealt with real evil or real bullies successfully? we have lots of resources we haven't used against cirrhISIS besides bombs. we can't destroy evil. but we can compete with it and outsell it and ... . it doesn't seem like killing ISIS members, even if identified correctly would be a very successful long term strategy. What do they care? and it just makes their brand stronger. there's lots we can do against them without reaching into the bottomless ineffective pit of american military action. love and peace to everyone. and the occasional orgasm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm common:

and now...scott walker
  6:49pm listener monica:

Remember the khmer rouge, the crusades, salem witch trials, the colonization of the americas... Human beings have historically committed horrific cruelties on massive scales.
Avatar 6:49pm V Priceless:

@ common: exactly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Matt from Springfield:

Oh! "The Lone Gunmen" was the X-Files spinoff on Fox in 2001. I watched that! And the pilot: I don't remember that, but dear Lord, that was in EARLY 2001!

"the trio soon find themselves unravelling a government conspiracy concerning an attempt to fly a commercial aircraft into the Twin Towers, with increased arms sales for the United States as an intended result." !!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Matt from Springfield:

@common: "Who am I, 21" that's what Clay always sings! I guess this is the song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm common:

hitler did it. reagan did it. both bushes did it.
etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm Philthy woman:

Clay, I mean; not dusty. Loved the musical punishment poem. Aptly placed, between the interviews n calls and Scott Walker
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm Matt from Springfield:

@VP: Yes! All of Clay's segments (to include Fab!) and all the commenters, it's a holistic experience we keep coming back for!

Thanks Clay, for bringing this magic every week!

Avatar 6:59pm dale:

there's no singing to this - it's all compooter enhanced drivel
  6:59pm Phil:

@Malky - Mia Farrow of all people did what the US Govt could not or would not do. She shrewdly brought some of the things the Chinese were doing to prop up the Sudanese Govt and successfully persuaded the nation's largest pension fund CalPers to divest of Chinese energy companies it was invested in particularly Petro China and the stock has never recovered. Many other socially conscious funds followed suit - It was a master stroke.

The Chinese are 100pct responsible for the ongoing horror in Darfur because they furnish the govt with support - The govt in turn sells all their oil to Petro china and others Chinese corps like SinoPec. But their presence is felt all over Africa now on the East and West coasts. They are amoral in their support and provide aid and assistance to Govt's civilized nations have tried to marginalize. They also sell their veto vote on the UN Security Council which is another reason the UN has never had a meaningful presence in Sudan and other places that conflict with Chinese interests.
Avatar 6:59pm V Priceless:
