  9:02pm JakeGould:

Icy evening, Irene.
Avatar 9:04pm gongoleer:

Hi Irene. Back for another round of fine tunes. What's cookin? Buried in snow up here as you must be too.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:05pm Webhamster Henry:

Irene, you might like my friend Fredo Viola's music! Very interesting melodically - like this, but a lot less country orchestration. In fact, he's usually fairly a cappella!
Avatar 9:09pm gongoleer:

Nice photo of NYC brownstones with snow. Ah the city. How I sometimes miss it. If I could figure out how to take a photo of the snow & trees here in my backyard and post it to you, I would. Any ideas?
  9:12pm jon:

snow nor rain nor icy driveway will keep us from being with irene until midnight. hi everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm fleep:

Um, a camera?
Avatar 9:14pm gongoleer:

I have a camera; that's not what I meant. How do I upload it to this site? Can I? Is it possible?
  9:15pm Peter K.:

That Punch Brothers track was something else! Great way to start the show!
Avatar 9:16pm Van in DC:

This always catches me off guard.

I'M HERE, Hi Irene
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16pm Irene Trudel:

Chilly night to you too, Jake, gongoleer, Henry, jon and fleep!
Avatar 9:18pm gongoleer:

Which John Compton is this? There's same name musician/recording artist living up here. Could it be the same?
Avatar 9:18pm gongoleer:

Hail hail the gang's all here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm Mike East:

@gongoleer - take a pic and set it as your avatar, or just upload to your profile

Evening Irene and all
Avatar 9:20pm Van in DC:

Prost to those of the gang sleeping across the pond and who will be archiving!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Peter! The whole Punch Bros. album is equally great. Hi Van! Better late than never. gongoleer, yes that's the same John Compton, who was in the band Appaloosa. Do you know him? Listener Don put me in touch and John sent me a few of his own albums.Small world!
  9:21pm Mrs P:

Wonderful start to the program Irene.
Avatar 9:23pm Van in DC:

This is wonderful! Should be followed up by, um, Sandy Denny? Fairport? Steeleye Span? Maggie Reilly with Mike Oldfield? Heck, Sally Oldfield?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Right after snowfall is the best. The newfallen snow heaped up on the branches in sharp contrast to the dark shades of the tree bark and maybe rocks if you're in a park. Also, the muffled quiet and the crunch of the footsteps.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:25pm redkayak:

Evening all......I liked that Olivia Chaney song :)
Avatar 9:26pm Parq:

'Evening, Miss Irene and followers. As this lovely music warms our Tuesday night, the conversation around the hearth here at the Parq homestead has turned to the Dylan supper-club album. The consensus hereabouts is that Neil Young was right -- it *is* better to burn out than it is to rust.
Avatar 9:26pm Parq:

Which one Neil himself is doing, I will leave to others to say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Holy gosh....six people killed in a fiery train crash in the NYC area. It's breaking news.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm Tome:

Good evening Irene & everyone yes ,, all be careful is icy out there indeed I just got in myself ! - not that there's any reason to out now , lovin' the tunes !
Avatar 9:28pm Van in DC:

I would bet dollars to donuts that the amazing songs by Mike OldField & Maggie Rielly have never even been played on FMU. Mike couldn't sing worth a darn, but Maggie sure could! I'm talking like Poison Arrow, To France, Moonlight Shadow...none of those I would bet a thousand dollars have NEVER been played on WFMU. What a shame.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm Tome:

OMG ,, stoke too soon apparently ,,
Avatar 9:31pm Van in DC:

Mike Oldfield's best albums (I thought) -Crisis, Discovery
Avatar 9:32pm gongoleer:

Yep I know him, see him often in town & actually might be doing some music with him in near future. Was it Bikoff who put you in touch? John was on Columbia I believe. Check out this link. Small world and shrinking. WOW! I'll have to tell him about this evening.

Avatar 9:34pm Van in DC:

Maggie Reilly. Sorry for the misspell
Avatar 9:36pm Van in DC:

Okay if I can't hear Mike Oldfield with Maggie Reilly how's about Kate & Anna McGarrigle :)
Avatar 9:37pm Van in DC:

Or Maddy Prior & June Tabor, the Silly Sisters....
Avatar 9:39pm Van in DC:

I'm feeling really Folkish tonight for some reasone
Avatar 9:40pm Van in DC:

Thanks Irene!
  9:40pm slowbear:

Hi Irene. Tuning in from LA. Work was dumb but you are great. Thank you.
Avatar 9:41pm Van in DC:

Just wonderful
Avatar 9:44pm Van in DC:

Wow, nice follow up
Avatar 9:45pm Van in DC:

On a related note: search for "Pearls before breakfast" - Joshua Bell... amazing
Avatar 9:46pm Mugsy:

Hey guys, hope everyone is HAPPY tonight.
Avatar 9:47pm Van in DC:

Avatar 9:47pm Van in DC:

one of my prized albums I used to have before everything got stolen!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm adrian in mpls:

yikes, I've missed plenty of good sounds so far. that's what i get for showing up late.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm Irene Trudel:

Van, I have played Mike Oldfield's other songs with Sally Oldfield but not those with Maggie. Not sure we have that in the WFMU library. I'll have a look at home later.
  9:49pm mabs:

okay - traffic, fairport convention. You're killing me.
  9:49pm LES:

Was Judy Dyble in the group for that Fairport record Irene? Who ever that was had an angelic voice.
Avatar 9:50pm Van in DC:

Irene, yeah the Sally-ange or whatever that was...those were some VERY young siblings not doing so well...but later on Sally did some decent stuff with things like Water Bearer. And Mike had some good stuff with Maggie....NOT Tubular Bells.
Avatar 9:53pm gongoleer:

Irene, I cut my musical teeth on all these sounds. I'm having a beautiful trip back in time. Thanks.
Avatar 9:53pm Van in DC:

What a set. What a set. What a set.

What a set.
  9:55pm jon:

i think that was judy on the first or second of the fairport convention albums. irene has the final word but that is my guess
Avatar 9:56pm Van in DC:

I fall in love with this show all over again every week.
  10:00pm melinda:

It was Sandy Denny.
Avatar 10:02pm Van in DC:

Wow. Nice.
  10:02pm JakeGould:

I like the way this ship is being steered tonight, Irene.
Avatar 10:03pm Van in DC:

I wasn't sure about it being Sandy or not, but I thought so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm Matt from Springfield:

L. Cohen, sincerely!

Evening Irene and Trudelites!
Avatar 10:04pm Van in DC:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Matt from Springfield:

DCer Van! Thought I might find you in this cozy pub here! :)
  10:06pm LES:

Thank you melinda. You and my wife were right!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Irene Trudel:

Yes, Melinda, definitely Sandy Denny on Eastern Rain. Howdy to Parq, Matt, adrian, Mugsy, slowbear, Ken.and Tome. Gang's all safely here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm Mike East:

That snow storm at the end of McCabe and Mrs Miller comes to mind
Avatar 10:07pm Van in DC:

Matt you have missed a masterpiece in progress. Archives await you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm Matt from Springfield:

I'm already eyeing that Traffic (never heard that John Barleycorn album), and Robyn & K.T. "phantom single"!
Avatar 10:10pm Van in DC:

John Barlyecorn Must Die is highly recommended Matt
Avatar 10:10pm Van in DC:

yes sounds right
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm Mike East:

agree with Van...think my used CD copy got stolen, but I remember buying John Barleycorn Must Die not really knowing what to expect, but being pleasantly surprised.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm Mike East:

I think I used to get Traffic confused with James Gang (as a youth)
  10:13pm LES:

Thank you Irene and melinda. My wife is happy to be right too.

ChrisT did a show tonight about the problem with trolls on the lists but I only ever find people who love the music and love the station. I'm not trying to jinx it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm Matt from Springfield:

Wonderful Mike! That sounds like a good deal.
Avatar 10:15pm Van in DC:

trolls? Not on this playlist :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm Matt from Springfield:

Heavens no! Let's keep it that way!
In fact most of the comments here are pleasantly free of trolls, compared to the rest of the 'Net out there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm Ken From Hyde Park:

It's most likely the cold weather that keeps the riff-raff out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm Matt from Springfield:

Hopefully they're only making trouble with the websites out their own window!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm coelacanth:

Hi Irene & everyone.
i see i missed my favorite Leonard Cohen song...
and John Barleycorn! (which i haven't heard in many years.
Avatar 10:23pm Van in DC:

Irene - I hope you discover the Mike Oldfield / Maggie Reilly recordings, they really are quite nice I have long thought.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm Matt from Springfield:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm coelacanth:

speaking of which, nice shot,Irene.
Avatar 10:27pm Van in DC:

Irene putting on a clinic tonight.

  10:29pm jon:

we have what clay would call a message of peace an love and the trolls hate that. i dont think they care for indie rock austrailan bands either. i do! go-betweens!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm Matt from Springfield:

Drum brushes!

Hey jon! Sweet medicine for the soul, a MOPAL any nice person can use!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm Irene Trudel:

LES, there have been a couple of Trolls who didn't appreciate what I do in the past. There are seemingly happier people here now. Best to ignore them till they get bored and go away.
Avatar 10:33pm Van in DC:

As an aside - all of those Mike Oldfield / Maggie Reilly songs are on YouTube of course (To France, Poison Arrow, Moonlight Shadow)...I love them all
  10:35pm jon:

  10:36pm LES:

I agree Irene.
Avatar 10:36pm Van in DC:

Don Bikoff likes this
  10:37pm Carmichael:

Heya Irene and listeners. Missed the Fairport and Traffic, but totally expected and post-appreciated. That makes sense, right?
Avatar 10:37pm Van in DC:

Perfect sense indeed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm Matt from Springfield:

Appreciated after the fact, right?
Hi Carm! What's your weather today?
  10:40pm Carmichael:

Sheez, Matt. 70 and sunny. Can you get cabin fever from good weather? Going nuts here.
Avatar 10:40pm Van in DC:

So I'm guessing that David Russell, the incredible classical guitarist, has yet to really be discovered at FMU as well. He is frigging incredible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm Tome:

this number is just making me say ,,, ahhhhh ,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm Matt from Springfield:

I like all sorts of weather, but still good to take a brief mental vacation to another place! Variety being the spice of weather, and so forth.
Avatar 10:42pm Van in DC:

Okay, gotta save the rest for tomorrow. Thanks so much Irene.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm Mike East:

not yet...that's just slightly outta my price range at the moment...not that our beachfront hotel was cheap, but I think the Disney trip will have to wait for another year and a few more tax returns. Just hadda get somewhere warm to breakup the winter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm Irene Trudel:

G'nite Van. Thanks Carm! I guess refrigerant is a complement, although more so on a warm summer's day-- or where you are (Jealous!) Mike, I think you're right to find a warmer clime, even for a few days.
  11:02pm KP:
