Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Listen to this show:  Pop‑up player!

Artist Track Album Label Year Format Comments Approx. start time
Todd Rundgren  Hello It's Me   Options Something/Anything?  Bearsville  1972  MP3  Not sure how it happened, but Todd has become a figure of discussion on the Dusty Show. I am a fan, though not fanatical. I even opened for Todd on one date of his Tiki Lounge tour in the '90's and got to meet him. He was very cool. An awesome producer, as well, and of course, this song is great.
A Little Todd Talk
Rod Stewart  Can We Still Be Friends   Options Camouflage  Warner Bros  1984  LP  Incorrectly identifed by me as being from the "Infatuation" LP. Infatuation was a hit song from this record. I know this isn't the greatest version, but I stumbled upon it by accident. There are some good songs on this LP. Like his version of Free's "All Right Now."
Rod Talk
A Call From Listener Chris
Enter Fabio
Bushwick Bill   Unforgiven   Options   Nu-Wave Entertainment  2000  12"  Found this in a flea market for $1. Love it. Too bad about the cat hair or whatever made it skip. Never happened to me quite this bad on the air before.
School of Seven Bells  Half Asleep   Options Alpinisms  Ghostly International  2008  2LP
A Call from Cameron
A Caller from Monroe
Archie Ulm   Time Is Tight/MacArthur Park   Options Experience  Real Sound Recording Studio  1979  LP  Milwaukee private press release from '79.
A Call from David in the Bronx
Laibach  Tanz Mit Laibach   Options Wat  Mute  2003  MP3  Check out the video. It makes the song. http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=laibach+tanz+mit+laibach+youtube&FORM=VIRE2#view=detail&mid=74C540817567652CBDB874C540817567652CBDB8

I am a Mess
I'll be honest and right up front with you. That was a tough Dusty Show for me. Not sure why, either. Well ... I may have an idea. I felt the last few shows before this were pretty decent. Good audience reaction. I worked hard on them. But this show ... it's like it was pre-destined to be diffiucult. I feel that feeling sometimes days in advance, and it feels as if there is nothing I can do about it. That being said, thanks to the listeners, the callers, Fabio, etc. It's not your fault.

So, on to next week. As I write this, it is Monday, February 3rd. Groundhog Day got by me and I barely even noticed. Didn't even see the BIll Murray picture, which I enjoy. I did watch The Big Lebowski for a while, and that was funny, especially John Goodman ranting in Johnny's in LA. I recognized the place and realized I used to hang out there back circa 99-01. It's gone now, but it was wonderful. A lot of wonderful things are gone, or they are going to be.

So ... I have very little lined up for this week coming up and it stresses me. I don't want to go "live" again, but I just find it excruciating to do street interviews, and it's so cold. I may have lost it completely. I'll figure something out. Marathon is coming too and I am totally unprepared. The freaking stress of it all - then, factor in real life and it's something, I'll tell you, but I am sure you know all about it. We're all adrift in the plutocracy, trying to make sesne of things. I'll catch you later, OK? Thanks for listening and don't give up on The Pidge. We had 182 comments this past week. That's my barometer. We're OK here. Hanging in. Making it last. Like old tired gum. Love ya. Always remember.

Avatar 6:06pm dale:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm Matt from Springfield:

@Jake: He separates the wheat from the chaff of "unmanagable" music periods, as someone once described.
Avatar 6:10pm MenfussMike:

Avatar 6:11pm Cecile:

I'd love to have a pint with the guy. But I'd make sure to talk about anything but music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Mike East:

@Marcel M - also Pink Floyd's Division Bell uses that. As I was listening, I was wondering if there was any way that that tone could be used in a song and not sound lame as hell. I'll let you know if I figure it out.
Avatar 6:11pm Marcel M:

Then you'd miss the cure... MBV.... jesus and mary chain.. c'mon Cecile!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Matt from Springfield:

I still need to check that out, steve!

Avatar 6:23pm Slick Goldtooth:

Avatar 6:23pm Cecile:

I usually watch the Super Bowl during Puppy Bowl commercials.
  6:23pm Hel:

You guys sound like Oscar & Felix in 'The Odd Couple'
Avatar 6:23pm Marcel M:

50 yards hahha. No way fabio! Whole different game with the football.
  6:24pm chris from aus:

wake in fright is featured in a great australian b movie doco called 'not quite hollywood' - worth checking out.
Avatar 6:24pm Cecile:

I know more about football that I want to. It just kind of stuck to me like iron shavings on a magnet.

Wasn't Pete Gogolak like the first soccer style kicker? Why do I know this?
Avatar 6:25pm Marcel M:

A friend got me to appreciate Football recently. Its just very hard for me to sit through commercials
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm SeanG:

hey chris from aus--I just saw that movie last week--great stuff
  6:25pm JakeGould:

I like the fact everyone is complaining about football because now I know football is happening.
Avatar 6:25pm dale:

katy perry is this years half time show. should be tittilating
  6:25pm Robert:

Marcel, lots of people can punt 50 yds. measured from point of kick to where it rolls dead. I'm just interested that Mr. Pigeon knows that much of both football & soccer.
Avatar 6:25pm Cecile:

Yes, he was. No, I don't why I know this. it was around 1966 when soccer style was adopted. I looked that up in Wikipedia.
Avatar 6:26pm dale:

remember that kicker in the 70s who had half a foot?
Avatar 6:26pm Cecile:

I just like typing PETE GOGOLAK!
  6:26pm Fred EE:

Peace, Love, and the Elks Club.
Avatar 6:27pm Cecile:

I do, dale.
I also loved that Nike commercial in the late 80s who kept naming kicker Al Del Greco as the greatest NFL player ever.
Avatar 6:27pm Cecile:

anyway, I gotta go.
  6:27pm Robert:

The Gogolaks are usually cited as popularizing soccer style kicking of the American football, but they didn't go from pro soccer to pro football. It was a few yrs. later before the NFL started raiding pro soccer for talent.
Avatar 6:27pm Cecile:

Pete Gogolak!
Avatar 6:28pm Slick Goldtooth:

66 is a damn good year for soccer, England taking the cup on home turf
Avatar 6:28pm ironybread:

And Ian Allen of Negativland...
Avatar 6:29pm dale:

90.1 is a very strong signal.
Avatar 6:29pm Marcel M:

@Robert: I guess I was looking at it in terms of making a field goal or kicking accurately. Never tried myself.
  6:30pm Robert:

For example, Jan Stenerud kicked soccer style, but he went from ski jumping to the NFL.

Marcel, you can't even score a goal via punt!
Avatar 6:30pm Slick Goldtooth:

Ahaha good jesus, Salo. MANGIA! MANGIA!

So whacked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm common:

couldn't get through salo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm redkayak:

  6:30pm Robert:

Avatar 6:32pm Marcel M:

Avatar 6:32pm slugluv1313:

SALO! intense is right! saw it for the first time around 1978 -- at the Bleecker Street Theater, i believe -- then tried to watch it again (on VHS, i guess?) at some point in the 1980s -- was very difficult and uncomfortable!

Avatar 6:36pm dale:

Avatar 6:38pm slugluv1313:

@ Matt from Springfield -- i know the feeling! back then i think you had to be 18 to see "Salo" in the theater -- now, i see the DVD at the local library, mixed in with all the other stuff!

I may have been overly impressed by Clay's soccer knowledge. I just found out his brother designed the logo of the Tampa Bay Rowdies, so Clay's knowing about them may not be primarily a matter of soccer knowledge!
