Yep, fried egg makes the Hot Sale meilleur alright. Hiya, Irwin. Good afternoon.
  3:03pm dave in Vermont:

Look at that book toy! Look at that pastiche!
Avatar 3:05pm V Priceless:

OK! All aboard the Irwin trai...oops! Sorry! Hey Irwin!
  3:06pm Ted:

woah, have not heard this La's song in ages..what a great album
  3:07pm JakeGould:

Hot sale!
Avatar 3:08pm GeesyCreesy:

It's the #1 famous salt AND pepper pork chop.
  3:13pm Dean:

Upstairs from Marché Pap Pap: https://goo.gl/maps/nfuWC

See you there, amigos.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm chris:

Sounds like its karaoke night at restaurant amigo
Avatar 3:14pm V Priceless:

Don't you want Mick Avory?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Webhamster Henry:

This is like the Mic In Tracks of the Napster era.
Avatar 3:21pm still b/p:

I might've had a salt and pepper pork chop years ago in one of the Chinese-operated Cuban places in Manhattan. But never in Montreal. Bucket listable?
  3:24pm JakeGould:

Napster! Friendster! LiveJournal!
  3:25pm Laura L:

Dean, does anyone wear pants at Restaurant Amigo or do they mean it, All dress?
Avatar 3:26pm Irwin:

Laura was with me on the Grim Montreal tour.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Amigo has some good reviews - www.yelp.com...
  3:29pm Robert:

So they're Cuban now? No more Chino Rican?
  3:29pm Dean:

Two good Montreal restaurants come to mind. One, Toqué!, has evidently moved since when I dined there. The other was in Vieux Port, a bistro whose name I forget. Probably not there anymore. Also, there used to be a short-lived coffee shop, again name forgotten, that was just the most laid back cool place. Great coffee and CDs scattered around. I remember asking them to play Gesualdo.

During the Hot Sale, Laura, one dines déshabillé, of course!
  3:30pm Dean:

At first I thought this Meldau was Hobgood's Union, a decent trio with Brian Torff and Paul Wertico, recorded exclusively on Naim, I think.
Avatar 3:31pm Irwin:

Dean: I love piano trios who don't play "brunch jazz." I'll check out Hobgood's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm fleep:

Not General Tso Chicken, General Tao Chicken. As in "the chicken that can be spoken is not the eternal chicken."
  3:33pm Dean:

Their discography is only two disks, I'm pretty sure. First heard them at Sally's Place in Westport, CT, where Torff, according to Sally, used to drop in from time to time.
  3:36pm Robert:

It's great how the commenting & music don't interfere with each other. I remember at least once going to a bar & grill specifically on nights they had music, then being annoyed at how the music interfered with our convers'n, then wondering to myself what the point was of going there then. Of course these days people would just text each other, so maybe the format here isn't that great an advantage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Mike East:

nice one, fleep :)
  3:40pm Robert:

Did that piece fade out to a little bit of the overture from that famous Western musical whose name I forgot?
Avatar 3:41pm Jeff:

@Dean: these fellows?

...and is this the Hobgood of whom you speak?

Avatar 3:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...hadn't thot of that: texting fixing the problem of diners talking over great Jazz artists...
  3:42pm Dean:

@Jeff: Yes and yes. Hobgood is most well known for his work with Elling. The Naim label, OTOH, is well known among audiophile fanatics for producing usually amazing, sometimes quirky, almost always expensive gear. Their recordings are very, very nice.
Avatar 3:43pm V Priceless:

Mocean Worker - coolness; discovered them during the now-defunct CD101's format change into Chill music, which I thought was actually quite rad for a major market station to do. Thus, they (CD101) are history.
  3:44pm Dean:

I'd forgotten the solo Hobgood record with Haden and Elling. It, too, is lovely.
Avatar 3:44pm Sem Chumbo:

@fleep: it's a Canadian thing. Here's a big box grocery store brand:www.presidentschoice.ca...
Avatar 3:44pm Irwin:

I think Mocean is one guy -- Adam Dorn.
Avatar 3:45pm V Priceless:

ahh - thanx for that, Irwin!
Avatar 3:45pm Jeff:

I wouldn't say the Naim *label* per se is known for the gear you provided so many appropriate adjectives for.

The gear, though - yes, aren't they known for often eschewing metal cases because they don't like how they sound, and for a series of possible upgraded power supplies to make the base component sound better and better?
  3:50pm Kathy:

the grocery stores are in charge of weather forecasts....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Fuzzy:

Hey, you NY/NJ folks dodged a very real bullet this time. Don't be cynical -- be grateful.
Avatar 3:53pm V Priceless:

as a Long Islander, what Fuzzy said.
Avatar 3:53pm ottovonbqe:

thank you cuomo for shutting down the subway.
Avatar 3:53pm Irwin:

Cynical about politicians, not meteorologists, Fuzz.
  3:53pm Dean:

Not aware of the case material issue. Upgradeable power supplies, yes. See, back in the '80s I believe there was a relationship of some sort b/w Naim and Linn. It went sour and a kind of competition ensued. One or the other of them introduced a new power supply -- could have been Linn's in its Kairn preamplifier (which resides in my system) -- and so war was waged. For all their peculiarities, I still admire Linn, even though they long ago priced me out of the market. There CD player, the Karik/Numerik, an early separate transport/DAC setup, remains for me one of the best digital playback systems ever. Alas, my transport nosedived, and there's no support. My Linn Sondek LPXII, OTOH, is up and running, vintage 1983 with most of the upgrades.
  3:54pm Robert:

Looks like my guess a few yrs. ago was right, Irwin, as Prof. Elemental at least mentioned steampunk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Fuzzy:

@Irwin: Thanks for clarifying -- your cynicism is well-placed, then. And yeah, shutting down vital city infrastructure before there's a real problem is pretty dumb. We could use less hype and more common sense from our government and media, but there ain't much money in that, is there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Asheville Jon:

i was on the Joe Frank website the other day, and FMU is not listed as a station that broadcasts his episodes! what's up with that?
Avatar 4:03pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- or just get public services started up again quicker...
  4:03pm berbo:

I think pretty much any Joe Frank episode could be called 'Obsession'.
Avatar 4:05pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Prof. Elemental has a faceborg: www.facebook.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Fuzzy:

Nice "I Am The Walrus" sample -- gotta try doing something like that with my new looper pedal!
  4:22pm Robert:

DeBlasio announced the shutting of the NYCTA before even conferring with them. It was then explained to him that in the case of snow, as opposed to flooding, shutting down would be counterproductive. Which meant that to save face, sort of, they ran the trains but didn't admit passengers! And Cuomo's anmt of criminal enforcement of no-driving was originally the entire state--although most areas of the state weren't even forecast to get much snow! That was quickly backed off to a quarter of the counties.
  4:24pm Robert:

It's like they think no amount of ignorance & inexpertise can't be remedied by sufficient appl'n of force & bravado.
  4:33pm Phillip:

  4:33pm Phillip:

I wanted to hear what was going to happen with the threesome
  4:34pm Phillip:

That sucks A big time!!!
  4:37pm Phillip:

Hey I love mayor deblasio! What mayor is going to give us a free state is card no matter if we're illegal or drug dealers or transgendered or ex convicts we can all access the city's services and for free
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Parq:

Phillip, that's it exactly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Parq:

(@ 4:34, I mean)
  4:39pm Phillip:

You need an appointment to get a IDNYC card mine is booked for September 9th of this year at 4pm
  4:42pm Phillip:

@irwin you can get one too! Just say your homeless and you can get a years free admission to the guganheim for free for a year
Avatar 4:44pm TDK60:

You need an *appointment* to get this new city card? Hmm.
  4:48pm Phillip:

@TDK60 yep and they are booked solid in all 27 locations! I just want it because of the free stuff

  4:54pm Phillip:

I hope tonight's show goes ok! And they don't have any problems with the video because I have been waiting all day to see it
  4:57pm berbo:

  4:57pm Robert:

Wow, that coda to Joe Frank got very meta. Where did the fiction stop, or did it?
  4:58pm Robert:

I mean, was he in character at the end or out of it?
  5:03pm Kacy:

Irwin I hope you will return to drumming at this year's Hoof N Mouth post-Marathon. You were missed in '14.
  5:04pm Listening Out There:

Notcher usual Stan Kenton...
Avatar 5:05pm Irwin:

Kacy: I drummed in '14! Sat out '12 and '13. Plan to be there this year.
Avatar 5:05pm Irwin:

Someone in Kenton's band said during CoG rehearsals, "The notes hurt the fillings in your teeth."
  5:06pm Kacy:

AI lost an entire year somewhere. The scurge of aging. Anyway, looking forward to your skilled skinsmanship! Great show today!
Avatar 5:06pm Irwin:

Can't plug my own book Songs in the Key of Z on the air, but it contains a chapter on Graettinger, a true musical outsider.
  5:07pm Kacy:

*I not AI although Artificial Intelligence may have also lost an entire year somewhere.
Avatar 5:10pm Irwin:

Kacy, I'd love to drum on your song, whatever it is. Hit me off-list if you've already selected.
  5:15pm Laura L:

I like City of Glass. Could make a good soundtrack, no?
Avatar 5:15pm TDK60:

This Bob Graettinger is interesting, new to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Carmichael:

Tuned in just in time for Kenton & Graettinger. Whoa ....
  5:19pm Listening Out There:

Bobby Previte now. Been including good drummers of late...
  5:26pm Listening Out There:

Waiting to hear John Hollenbeck and Andrew Cyrille on upcoming shows... :)
Avatar 5:34pm KP:

Nice Byrds choice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Carmichael:

I 2nd that, KP.
Avatar 5:37pm Irwin:

That's a Chris Hillman tune (or co-write).
Avatar 5:41pm Irwin:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Carmichael:

And this should be Mick Abrahams.
Avatar 5:41pm Irwin:
