"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Avatar 6:25am the Canterbury wood-elf:

Greetings all. Loving what i'm hearing here under bright blue Canterbury skies...
Avatar 6:28am Sem Chumbo:

Bright blue Nova Scotia skies and -19C. Heat wave!
Avatar 6:30am Sem Chumbo:

Correction, -23C: three quarters of an hour to sunrise. But I've got my FMU to keep me warm.
Avatar 6:34am the Canterbury wood-elf:

The simple-but-effective bass playing on that Sonny Simmons brought to mind Soft Machine's Hugh Hopper in non-fuzz mode (I had to look it up - it was Thomas Bellier from Spindrift).
Avatar 6:51am duke:

@Sem A balmy -8 F in upstate NY
Avatar 6:58am Sem Chumbo:

@duke: oh, to be in the Finger Lakes region in winter!
Avatar 7:00am the Canterbury wood-elf:

OK, shall we talk about the Pangboche Hand instead? en.wikipedia.org...

Is diarrhea really in your control?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02am AndrewC.:

What was the weather like in 1985? Anyone?
Avatar 7:04am the Canterbury wood-elf:

@AndrewC Depends where/when, of course, but it's all here: www.wunderground.com...
Avatar 7:04am Sem Chumbo:

@CWE: great band name, but a better story . Tom Slick, indeed.
Enjoying the spins, John. With you solidly til 9am.
@Andrew: changeable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:05am AndrewC.:

Jimmy Stewart stole a Yeti's hand from a Buddhist monastery in Nepal?

I am suprised to hear that.
Avatar 7:06am the Canterbury wood-elf:

@AndrewC According to the story, he smuggled it out of the country packed amongst his girlfriends underwear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07am AndrewC.:

I can hear William Burroughs.
Avatar 7:07am the Canterbury wood-elf:

Damn, missing apostrophe. Leaves open the ambiguous possibility that JS was polygamous at the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09am AndrewC.:

Bet I won't learn anything wierder than that story 'til next year.
Avatar 7:13am the Canterbury wood-elf:

@AndrewC This one might be in the running:
Avatar 7:14am John Allen:

I'm pretty sure that the hand never made it into Jimmy Stewart's bio
Avatar 7:21am pierre:

still very cosy in here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30am AndrewC.:

That Gulf Breeze story was good, but it didn't have the celebrity frisson of a major Hollywood star, so I'm only giving it four stars.

Was there a Yeti's hand in "Bell, Book and Candle" ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40am Ken From Hyde Park:

Good morning, Hump Day watchers.
  7:46am Ignore Function:

I can't wait to hear the new Silver Jews songs.
Avatar 7:49am John Allen:

mee too. i hear sacharine trust are his backing band
Avatar 7:50am the Canterbury wood-elf:

@AndrewC No shortage of celebrity frisson here - and a fair bit of (highly plausible) speculation: tinyurl.com...
  7:56am Ignore Function:

Actually, Tom Troccoli's Dog are backing up Berman this time around.
Avatar 8:01am John Allen:

actualier, october faction are reforming with bob nastanovich
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02am AndrewC.:

@Canterbury - Aah you finally found one thats too wierd for my company's firewall to let me read.
  8:07am Emile:

Liked that plates of cake
Avatar 8:08am the Canterbury wood-elf:

@AndrewC These two (more guarded, mainstream) accounts might make it through. Connect the dots, follow the arrows...
tinyurl.com... tinyurl.com...
  8:24am Emile:

This show is one reason I gave up my Spotify account last week and added the $10/week over to my monthly FMU pledge. Do it, people.
  8:25am Emile:

$10/month I mean...
Avatar 8:26am John Allen:

well let's face it Emile, Spotify is a reflection of one's self. who needs more of that shit in their life.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- indeed enjoying show Mr. JA; this program perhaps not as high-profile as some ( - whatever that means, & how would I know), but very much part of the fabric of what makes FMU so rich & satisfying. That's really awkwardly put - but I'm under a lot of pressure from the international yeti conspiracy consortiums & supervising underage prostitutes - & they're high-maintenance, let me tell you...surprisingly tolerant of this marginal music though, so I stick w/ it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35am common:

good day john, people!
Avatar 8:58am quinn:

I have enjoyed this show! I love Wednesday morning.
