Avatar 11:58am Tony Coulter:

Free trip to Flumdiddle for the first person to correctly ID the LP today's cassettes are resting on.
  12:01pm Dean:

Mahavishnu Orchestra, Visions of the Emerald Beyond
Avatar 12:02pm Tony Coulter:

You got it, Dean! Pack your bags.
  12:02pm Dean:

Totes cheated. But after cheating, I recognized the triangle, so there's that. Is Flumdiddle anywhere near NE PDX?
Avatar 12:02pm V Priceless:

Hey Tony! Happy Na-New Na-New Year!
Avatar 12:03pm Tony Coulter:

Heya V Priceless!

@ Dean: Portland is east of Flumdiddle.
Swag For Life Member 12:05pm papageno:

Ok. My cats are freakin'
Avatar 12:06pm βrian:

2°F (-17°C) on the isthmus today. They say tomorrow it will get cold.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm listener james from westwood:

Howdy, Tony and all!! βrian, we're facing 5° tonight in NE NJ. At that rate NW NJ is likely to have zero.
Avatar 12:07pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, βrian! Not so cold here. The cold is inside me at the moment, though.
Avatar 12:08pm Tony Coulter:

Hola, papageno & Listener James!!
  12:11pm Dean:

Is Tago Mago the label or the title? Isn't Camouflage the label, 003 the release number?
Avatar 12:12pm Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: Tago Mago is def the label. Their release numbers all start with "camouflage."
Avatar 12:13pm Tony Coulter:

Avatar 12:13pm Tony Coulter:

Great label, by the way....
  12:13pm Dean:

Got it. I'm hearing a French Einzelgänger.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm DCE:

hi gang!
Avatar 12:15pm Tony Coulter:

Hey ho, DCE!

Happy 2015, everyone!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm listener james from westwood:

Digging the heck out of this first tape!
Avatar 12:16pm Kay:

Isn't your Visions of the Emerald Beyond upside down? At least the writing is. Also album "Cristal" is now playing (album). Sorry to be so AR.
  12:18pm Dean:

VotEB was recorded upside-down.
Avatar 12:19pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, Kay! Thanks for spotting the typo! The upside-down Visions LP is intentional, though.
Avatar 12:20pm Kay:

It's alright, it's probably a gatefold anyway.
Avatar 12:21pm Tony Coulter:

Yep, it is a gatefold. Plus, the moon should be in the sky, not on the ground.
Avatar 12:24pm Tony Coulter:

Think he just said: "Blaise Cendrars said he could recognize each country he passed through with his eyes closed, by the odor."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Carmichael:

Tony, how you doin'? Hey everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm DCE:

happy New Ears, Carm
Avatar 12:29pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, Carmichael!!
Avatar 12:29pm Tony Coulter:

We are the French robots.
Avatar 12:37pm Tony Coulter:

By the way, that thing that looks like a ticket on the front of this Satellite & Atom Cristal cassette is ... a ticket. You can pull it out of its little pouch.
Avatar 12:38pm Tony Coulter:

Hope you're all doing the robot chicken dance right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm listener james from westwood:

Moreso than usual!
Avatar 12:44pm Tony Coulter:

Ditty on now reminds me of Family Fodder's "Film Music."
Avatar 12:47pm the Exeter wood-elf:

Hey Tony and gang. Just tuned in from the other side of the UK. Where were S&AC from?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Carmichael:

I have been reading up on Satellite & Atom Cristal EP, that apparently came before this one. Interesting stuff.
Avatar 12:49pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, Exeter Wood-Elf! They were from France (it's a collaboration between two groups).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Brian in UK:

Hello Tony and sensation seekers.
Avatar 12:53pm Tony Coulter:

Greets, Brian in UK!
Avatar 12:53pm Tony Coulter:

@ Exeter Wood-Elf: I take it you are a relative of the Canterbury Wood-Elf?
  1:00pm Bath Wood-Elf:

Family reunion, 2015!
  1:06pm Dean:

That was me, the impostor.
Avatar 1:10pm Tony Coulter:

The plastic-elf.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Jeff Golick:

HNY, Tony.

Checking that Tago Mago page at Discogs... do you have the Vidéo-Aventures album? I'm kinda fascinated by that group.
Avatar 1:15pm Tony Coulter:

Hey Jeff! Happy 2105-ness to you as well!

I do have that Video-Aventures album. They are big, longtime faves of mine.
Avatar 1:18pm northguineahills:

Avatar 1:18pm the Exeter wood-elf:

I am said wood-elf, just temporarily displaced a few hundred country miles to the West.
Avatar 1:19pm Tony Coulter:

Greetings, NGH!
Avatar 1:25pm Cecile:

Avatar 1:26pm Tony Coulter:

Ahoy, Cecile!
Avatar 1:26pm Cecile:

how goes it?
Avatar 1:27pm Tony Coulter:

Swimmingly. 'Cept for my mild head cold.
Avatar 1:28pm Cecile:

here's hoping it stays that way
Avatar 1:28pm Tony Coulter:

  1:36pm Dean:

This means the Steve Moore will get short shrift. Ah, well. I was looking forward to a Vespers not Monteverdi's.
Avatar 1:37pm Tony Coulter:

Should have mentioned: both sides of this Bene Gesserit/Usward tape cut off very abruptly. They ran out of tape, I guess.
Avatar 1:38pm βrian:

Back from excoriating my palate with an octopus and chili dish. Good listening.
Avatar 1:39pm Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: Yeah, sad to say, side A of the Steve Moore will have to wait for another show. Just not enough time -- and I couldn't find a 20-something-minute tape that would fit in its entirety. Just the way the cassette cookie crumbles....
Avatar 1:40pm βrian:

Tony, couldn't you increase the tape speed?
Avatar 1:41pm Tony Coulter:

I could! Or maybe play two tapes at once.
Avatar 1:41pm βrian:

We'll listen faster, better!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Doug Schulkind:

I like the way you bake them cassette cookies, Tony.
  1:45pm Dean:

Hey, "Vespers" is on side B! Gloria, etc.
Avatar 1:46pm Tony Coulter:

Doug Doug! Would you like some chocolate milk with your cassette cookies?
Avatar 1:46pm the Exeter wood-elf:

Avatar 1:48pm Cecile:

Tony, what's your favorite tape release that's still kind of available?
Avatar 1:49pm the Exeter wood-elf:

Do you have any of those ROIR tapes? I had a live Raincoats one back in Flanders ion the early 90s, I wonder where that is now...
Avatar 1:50pm Tony Coulter:

@ Cecile: Hmm. I'll have to think about that -- no answer comes to mind right away.
Avatar 1:51pm Tony Coulter:

@ Exeter Wood-Elf: I do have a few of the ROIR tapes, yes. Need a replacement of the Polyrock one -- mine died, sadly.
Avatar 1:52pm Tony Coulter:

I've got the Raincoats one ("Kitchen Tapes") on CD -- ROIR reissued it.
  1:52pm βrian:

Sounds like seitan-speak.
Avatar 1:53pm Cecile:

Those issues are good. I have a few.
Avatar 1:53pm Tony Coulter:

@ βrian: Get thee behind me, seitan.
Avatar 1:54pm βrian:

My wife claims seitan gets behind me after I eat it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm DCE:

yeah, I like that!
Avatar 1:57pm βrian:

That voice, isn't it the corn-weenie guy?
  1:57pm Spainish Inquistion:

What RadioDj's/stations warrant your listening interest?
Avatar 2:01pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, Spainish Inquisition! Assuming that question was directed at me: I'm afraid I'm guilty of not listening to the radio as much as I should, so I can't really offer an informed answer. Takes as much time as I can spare just listening to the music I already have in my house.
Avatar 2:03pm Tony Coulter:

I assume you're talking non-FMU....
Avatar 2:03pm quinn:

I really like this show!
Avatar 2:04pm βrian:

Wrong answer. Another turn of the crank, and maybe your response will be more informative ...
Avatar 2:05pm Tony Coulter:

Have mercy!!
Avatar 2:05pm Tony Coulter:

Glad you're enjoying it, Quinn!!
Avatar 2:12pm Tony Coulter:

"Cheeses are coming to a town with a population of 10."

Check out The Soundprojector Radio show/by Ed Pinsent It is Archived.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm listener james from westwood:

Backward lyrics ... telling me to kill Nickelback ... must find machete...
Avatar 2:20pm Tony Coulter:

@ Ken Shabby: Thanks for the suggestion. I am with it enough to know that Resonance FM is a great station.
Avatar 2:21pm Tony Coulter:

Haven't heard that show, though....
  2:24pm Dean:

The radio show I most miss was broadcast out of a local Southern California station, could have been AM, and featured host Brother Paul, who took calls from listeners and purveyed spiritual advice. It was ... unusual. The show's theme song was Loggins & Messina's "Peace of Mind." I'd love to know what happened to BP.
  2:29pm MrFab:

- KXLU. It's all great, but the Friday morning show "The International Voice of Reason" is very WFMU/ incorrect music.

- KBOO's "Lost and Found" hosted by Rich, who frequently hangs 'round these parts.
Avatar 2:30pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, MrFab!!

Yes, there are a few mucho excellent shows on Portland radio stations KBOO and XRAY.
  2:32pm Jethro Tilton:

Would Brother Have a role in "leap of Faith"
  2:33pm Dean:

Another defunct show: KNAC Long Beach's weekly progressive rock show during the late '70s.
  2:35pm Dean:

@Jethro: The show aired a long time ago, but not that long ago!
Avatar 2:37pm Kay:

I'd recommend Resonance FM: The O.S.T. Show (as in "original soundtrack") with Johnny Trunk, who heads Trunk Records. Movie/television soundtracks for the most part, or related, or the same theme/type. Often orchestral, but usually bearing on the weird side. Check their schedule, than do the math from London time (Saturday noonish).
Avatar 2:38pm Tony Coulter:

This non–R. Stevie Steve Moore has an LP out on ReR (aka Recommended Records): www.discogs.com...
Avatar 2:38pm βrian:

Ah, the sounds of my youth. This was the soundtrack for our house at night! As I heard it, anyway.
  2:41pm Dean:

Can we assume that this is the same Steve Moore who performed with Zombi?
Avatar 2:42pm Tony Coulter:

Discogs sez that's a different Steve Moore, from the U.S. Man, Steve Moores are a dime a dozen.
  2:43pm Dean:

Or a shilling, as the case may be.
Avatar 2:47pm Cecile:

this is bewitching stuff
Avatar 2:48pm northguineahills:

Wow, this is beguiling awesome!
Avatar 2:49pm Tony Coulter:

As I mentioned, there's no trace on the interwebs of it ever having come out. (What I have is just a demo.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm DCE:

when it gets loud, it gets loud.
Avatar 2:53pm Tony Coulter:

No brick wall waveforms for Mr. Moore.
  2:53pm My stevie moore:

This is no "7 or A.More/ Flying Doesn't help & or Phonograph by R stevie moore.I like it nonetheless.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm listener james from westwood:

All hail the days when music came inside a handwritten label.
  2:57pm Dean:

FWIW, Moore was evidently written up in v.1, no. 4, of Rē Records quarterly magazine. Can't find a full scan at Google Books or Hathi Trust. Mid to late '80s.
Avatar 2:57pm βrian:

Some music sneaks in the back door.
  2:59pm Dean:

Also v.1, no.1.
Avatar 2:59pm northguineahills:

Man, great tunes, thanks Tony!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm listener james from westwood:

Excellent spread o' selections today, Tony! Many thanks!
Avatar 3:01pm V Priceless:
