Avatar 12:25pm Tony Coulter:

Ha! WFMU: Musical sounds from A to B!
Avatar 12:25pm Tony Coulter:

No one recognizes the mystery LP underneath today's cassettes? Hint: It's from 1982 and on a Seattle label.

Made it before GKM tape ends... Meeting in 30. Must soak up the golden weird NOW NOW NOW.
Avatar 12:32pm Tony Coulter:

Hey ho, Turnip!!
Avatar 12:36pm Tony Coulter:

NB: The end of this side of the tape gets very quiet -- but I'm-a gonna let it play all the way.
Avatar 12:44pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

i vigorously endorse the "postcards" double LP. For whatever RTD endorsements are worth.
Avatar 12:44pm Tony Coulter:

A.T.M.O.T.W. -- the label this Gen Ken cassette is on --- stands for Artists Throwing Money Out the Window
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Carmichael:

That LP cover looks a little like Keith Haring.
Avatar 12:47pm Tony Coulter:

@ Turnip: I'll be voting Postcard in November.
Avatar 12:48pm Tony Coulter:

@ Carmichael: See what you mean, for sure -- but it's not him.
Avatar 12:53pm Tony Coulter:

OK, time's up -- sorry, contestants. Here is today's mystery LP: rymimg.com...
Avatar 1:02pm Tony Coulter:

It's on the fine Seattle label Palace of Lights.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm listener james from westwood:

Darn. At least I get a copy of the Give the Drummer Radio home game.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Stanley:

Tony Coulter, esteemed listeners,
Avatar 1:04pm Tony Coulter:

Talking of Seattle, I've been four times since moving to the West Coast, though always on blitz-like day trips. Still haven't warmed to the city, somehow. Does anyone have any Seattle tips -- such as particularly interesting/appealing neighborhoods?
Avatar 1:05pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, Stanley!!
Avatar 1:07pm Jay/London:

Hi Stanley
Avatar 1:07pm Tony Coulter:

Have a nice time Jay. Not so bad up here, forecast not too bad either. Me and the Vic are also away tomorrow to Darkest Dumfriesshire. Taking the phone/bluetooth speaker set up for Bill Mac's Christmas Bash. Hope you can join the party, too.
Avatar 1:24pm Jay/London:

Avatar 1:42pm Tony Coulter:

Here's the discogs page: www.discogs.com...
Avatar 1:51pm Cecile:

hola! Back from lunch hell. Do not go to the Buttered Tin in St. Paul, MN. The food is very good, but the staff is slower than little kids playing fake restaurant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm fleep:

In our opinion, the most walkable interesting area of Seattle is the Queen Anne district. seattle.findwell.com...
Avatar 1:53pm still b/p:

The Slowwww Food movement?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm listener james from westwood:

Was that stop on FMU's end or the tape's?! Ahhh, there's Tony.
Avatar 1:54pm Cecile:

Yeah. Gave me barely any time to use my gift certificate to Into The Void records.
Avatar 1:55pm Tony Coulter:

@ fleep: Thanks for the tip!!
Avatar 1:55pm Tony Coulter:

@ Cecile: It takes time to prepare a buttered tin properly.
Avatar 1:56pm Cecile:

like around 9 seconds.
35 minutes for a tuna sandwich to go.
Avatar 1:56pm Tony Coulter:

@ Listener James: That's how the tape ends! Guess they wanted to use up every available second of tape.
Avatar 1:56pm Cecile:

I felt like I was in a dub step video after the drop. Everything mooooooves slow.
Avatar 1:56pm Tony Coulter:

Greetings still b/p!!
Avatar 1:58pm Tony Coulter:

Artists heard in the background at Portland cafes over the last week, providing blessed relief from Christmas music hell: Daniel Johnston, Television Personalities.
Avatar 1:58pm Cecile:

nice, tony!
Avatar 1:59pm Tony Coulter:

Still doesn't beat what I heard a Park Slope Mexican food joint play 7, 8 years ago: Trout Mask Replica, in its entirety.
Avatar 2:01pm Cecile:

WOW. What time of the day did they do that?
Avatar 2:03pm Tony Coulter:

Evening, I think (it's been a long time). Strangely, no one seemed to notice it.
  2:04pm Dean:

I'll repeat a comment I made yesterday regarding "traditional" Christmas music, of which I'm a fan. Try Sequentia's "Plebs domini" off the Aquitania album. It's a 12th century "Hey Jude," and it promises and delivers Christmas music heaven. I swear to God.
Avatar 2:04pm Cecile:

that's so cool
Avatar 2:04pm still b/p:

Merry eve eve.

The term "corridor courtesy" reminds me of having to open school building and corridor doors for nuns. Though it ain't courtesy when it's mandatory.
Avatar 2:05pm Tony Coulter:

Hey Dean!
Avatar 2:09pm Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: I'll give that Sequentia album a try -- once Christmas is over and my mind is open again. Thanks for the suggestion!
Avatar 2:13pm Tony Coulter:

RE: Side B of the The Dave tape. Once again, they were being thrifty with tape -- that's just how it ends (on my copy anyhow!)
Avatar 2:16pm Cecile:

this is a lot better than the cheesy cover would have you believe. Great music.
Avatar 2:18pm Cecile:

Someone might want to consider trying to reissue this
Avatar 2:18pm Cecile:

It sounds like the Portico Quartet 20 years before they ever recorded.
Avatar 2:18pm Tony Coulter:

Good idea.

Can't go wrong with someone who was in Etron Fou.
Avatar 2:19pm Cecile:

oh! I just found that out.
Avatar 2:20pm Tony Coulter:

Meanwhile, a double 7" of music by Mathieu's pre–Etron Fou band, Johnny Be Crotte, just came out: www.youtube.com...
  2:29pm Marie:

Hey Tony, loving the show. Great to hear you. How is Portland treating you these days?
Avatar 2:30pm Tony Coulter:

Hey Marie!! Portland and I are getting along just fine. I definitely like it here.
Avatar 2:37pm Tony Coulter:

RE: The somewhat cheesy photo of Monsieur Mathieu on this cassette's cover. I'm guessing there's some '80s French irony at play -- which doesn't translate particularly well here and now.
Avatar 2:40pm Cecile:

or the standard cheesy indie jazz record cover of the 80s
Avatar 2:41pm Cecile:

even the title sounds like a bad 80s jazz record
Avatar 2:43pm Tony Coulter:

Could be. I guess only Bernard and his cheesemonger know for sure.
Avatar 2:46pm northguineahills:

Wife decided to catsit for the holidays (and she knows nothing about cats), so I've been taking care of them and neither of us have been sleeping regular hours.
Avatar 2:48pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, NGH! I know all about being woken up by cats at 4:00 in the morning.
Avatar 2:53pm northguineahills:

I slept from 6-9pm and 11am-2pm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm listener james from westwood:

Been puttering through chores with the mighty Tape Hiss cheering me on. Always appreciated, Tony!
Avatar 2:55pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks for showing up, everyone! Happy Holy Holidays!!
Avatar 2:55pm northguineahills:

Thanks Tony, Merry Ho;idays!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Carmichael:

Avatar 2:58pm still b/p:
