Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

  6:06pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Hi TDK, there was, Massive Attack, Portishead, not so much now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm Matt from Springfield:

Atomic Rooster! A Clay fave, he's often played "Invisible Prison".

The drummer here is the Spinal Tap drummer--hope he hasn't spontaneously combusted in real life!
  6:07pm Oscar:

mmmm piano prog
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm chad from oregon:

I dunno... this song seems to be exacerbating my stress, Clay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm Marcel M:

I thought there was a thriving underground electronic scene in Bristol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi everybody!
Seasons greetings to you as well Sean!
Avatar 6:08pm βrian:

I was expecting a little Erik Satie.
Avatar 6:08pm βrian:

What could be more Satiating, after all?
  6:09pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Marcel, you are more aware than I am, my music taste is more prog rock!
  6:09pm iris:

Hi Clay and listeners!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Matt from Springfield:

In-Satie-ating myself with it.

Hi Matt!
Avatar 6:10pm steve:

hey Clay
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm Marcel M:

@Sean: Hehe. Recently got a record from a collective of musicians from Bristol called Killing Sound. Really cool stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Luckily, I'm not bothered by these earworms since I'm constantly tuned here. www.latimes.com...

Gracias Marcel for tip.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Mike East:

Hey Sean!
Avatar 6:12pm TDK60:

Clay, you lived in Jackson Hole?
Avatar 6:12pm Cecile:

this is not a bad song. They got beat up for this album
  6:14pm Dean:

Not bad at all. Geez, I had this record ages ago. Sounds now like decent ELO.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm common:

ello! this is nice, clay!
  6:14pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Crikey, Bay City Rollers, what a difference to my memory of them on Top of the Pops!
  6:15pm Gee Lampa:

I blame McCartney for all the tripe that followed in his wake.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Polyus:

True tale, Clay, I lived just outside Bay City, MI at the height of Rollermania. They visited the town, but alas my parents wouldn't take me.
  6:16pm Night Al:

Hey everyone! It's been a while since I was able to listen live.
Avatar 6:16pm david_:

wow, this is the hardest I've heard Bread rock.
Avatar 6:17pm Cecile:

I just missed Rollermania in Australia, and was in time for Abbamania
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm common:

this is bread? good! my dad listened to them all the time. never heard this one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Mike East:

@Dean - that's funny cuz in the middle of that track I had to run to the back and found myself humming 10538 Overture.
  6:17pm Fred:

Beatles deserve some blame for this one too..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Santos L Halper:

This is a certified Clay's Classic (TM)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm common:

nice, mike east!
Avatar 6:18pm Cecile:

gotta go, folks. Always remember.
Avatar 6:19pm V Priceless:

I got a rise outta that Bread track!
Avatar 6:19pm TDK60:

This is Bread?! Clay tell Fabio @; he might play on his show someday.
Avatar 6:20pm V Priceless:

safe travels, Cecile
Avatar 6:20pm david_:

It's nice to see that someone took a stab at Butter as a band name: www.reverbnation.com...
  6:20pm Dean:

@Mike: And I had to quiet the stream for a second to revisit 10538 at your mention. I'd forgotten how it sounded, having heard it mostly only at live ELO shows. Great stuff. Easy to hear how ELO eventually produced "Fire on High."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm Davis:

and jam-- went quite well for them
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm dale:

losing me on this one clay - sounds like when spinal tap was reborn to a jazz fusion group at the county fair
Avatar 6:21pm V Priceless:

love that first Stanley Clarke solo record, too
Avatar 6:21pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Great to hear this track
  6:21pm Gee Lampa:

I smell DiMiola farts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm common:

@dean: the scariest song i've ever heard
Avatar 6:21pm TDK60:

dale: I like their "new direction."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm YETI BOB:

y'know i'm a bass player, i *should* like this
Avatar 6:21pm david_:

Hello Jeff, indeed!
Avatar 6:22pm Jesse K:

we're with you Clay
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Matt from Springfield:

@david: Carmichael (I think?) has said some positive things about Bread's catalogue tracks--they're the next band in line to be "critically reexamined" and appreciated!
Avatar 6:23pm V Priceless:

Starcastle! Cool!
  6:23pm Dean:

Good lord, I'm a teenager again. (Just like yesterday and the day before.) Starcastle, ELO, Bay City Rollers... I assure you, common, that when I spin the "Face the Music" LP my kids do a double-take at the start of "Fire on High." OTOH, when I play High on Fire live, they don't give it a moment's notice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm YETI BOB:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm YETI BOB:

the look matches the sound *perfectly*
  6:24pm Gee Lampa:

Lay some "Mysteries And Mayhem" on me, Clay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Matt from Springfield:

@TDK: At least they got a bigger dressing room than the puppet show (though they were billed 2nd)...
Avatar 6:24pm ironybread:

I'm always ashamed to make a request. It's so Quixotic and narcissistic. But Clay I believe YOU WON'T JUDGE ME FOR DOING IT. So do you feel like playing "Calling All Girls" by Hilly Michaels?
  6:25pm Dean:

And to think the singer is an REO Speedwagon refugee.
Avatar 6:25pm Sean in Bristol UK:

All this ace music, Clay, I am in seventh heaven!
Avatar 6:25pm βrian:

So these guys preceded Yup, even?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm common:

my friend burnt a copy of this starcastle for me a few years ago. i thought it was yes. but loved it no matter.
  6:26pm Dean:

Yes, they do sound like Yes, they do.
  6:26pm Fred:

someone stop this!

even though I love you Clay

Yes they do sound like yes...
  6:26pm iris:

How about some Eloy Clay?
Avatar 6:26pm TDK60:

Stanley & Jeff *wail* on that in my opinion.
  6:26pm Dean:

Heh heh. Play Druid.
Avatar 6:27pm david_:

excellent news, Matt. Let the reexamination begin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm common:

and horsey philly
  6:27pm adam:

Its a long way to the LOVE if you wanna...barf
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm YETI BOB:

i've been in a foul, cranky mood all week (no sun+flu+christmas). but, clay, you put a HUGE smile on my face with this show. thanks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm SeanG:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm Carmichael:

Ha ha, Clay! You open with Crabby Appleton, too cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm SeanG:

that riff
  6:28pm Gee Lampa:

the cloud of Aqua Net made it hard to actually see these guys, when on stage.
Avatar 6:29pm βrian:

Aye. Yes, Yup, whatever. They do sound like 'em.
  6:29pm Dean:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Marcel M:

I'm just imagining Fabio rocking out to Starcastle driving over the BK Bridge.
  6:30pm adam:

third tear, Clay
Avatar 6:30pm βrian:

I don't have the flu, but I think I do feel some Kansas coming on.
Avatar 6:30pm TDK60:

Marcel: It is possible, but don't tell anyone.
  6:31pm RJ in NJ:

I second what Yeti Bob says Clay
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm SeanG:

hahaha Marcel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm Marcel M:

  6:32pm Gee Lampa:

@Brian Lamplight Symphony
  6:32pm Gee Lampa:

Has a Steve Walsh quality, actually.
Avatar 6:33pm βrian:

Lamplighter Symphony with a Bic lighter backdrop. Dear God ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm Carmichael:

Hey Clay, maybe you could play some Fanny. They're from my hometown, I used to jam with 'em occasionally. Then they hit it big and dropped me like a load of poo.
  6:33pm Fred:

ouch the sax solo
Avatar 6:34pm david_:

the babe ruth vocalist reminds me a bit of early Ozzy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Carmichael:

That's an 80s sax solo, Fred!
Avatar 6:34pm βrian:

@Fred: only thing worse: the sex solo.
  6:34pm Gee Lampa:

@Brian One of the best ghost stories ever committed to wax. There aren't too many.
Avatar 6:34pm david_:

I predict a sax comeback in 2015.
  6:35pm Gee Lampa:

@Clay Lou made the sax work for him.
  6:35pm Fred:

Love you Clay no matter how painful the sax can be. Thanks Bro!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm Carmichael:

The Millington sisters, yes. Good memory, dude.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm Marcel M:

The sax sort of works with The Stooges when its on... but... it is still kinda weird.

Also, its pretty much accepted that its good in Hawkwind, right?
  6:35pm Dean:

Apple Records?
  6:35pm Gee Lampa:

Bowie loved fanny? Tell me something I DON'T know, Clay!
  6:36pm Sandi:

Saw Babe Ruth '75?, W/ Carman, and Roxy Music.....So great!
  6:36pm mike c:

Crazy, I got this David Peele album in a giant stack of records from a friends family
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Mike East:

I like the Young Americans sax solo. Didn't Bowie play the sax solo on "Walk on the Wild Side"?
Avatar 6:36pm TDK60:

Hey, some Lower East Side street hippy proto-folk-punk. Notice the Yoko?
  6:36pm Gee Lampa:

Peel was a trip.
  6:37pm Kevlicki:

I enjoy the sax in young Americans, but I was listening to it 20 years after it was released
Sax in most songs thru the 80's was pretty terrible. I always wondered if there was a sax union that demanded every produced song must have the insteunent incorporated
  6:37pm Fred:

Santa Claus has a big Sack(x)...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Matt from Springfield:

Still IS a trip, too!
  6:37pm Gee Lampa:

@Mike East that solo is a tad rich for Bowie's tinny tone.
Avatar 6:37pm TDK60:

And Peel is still around, in the Jersey City Metro Area.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Carmichael:

Adding to Marcel's statement, I think Fabio enjoys the irony of Clay's music selections following his own. He'd never admit to liking any of 'em, though ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Davis:

sanborne on young americans-- i think it sounds great
  6:38pm Kevlicki:

People should've left the sax to Coltrane and moved on
Avatar 6:38pm Mugsy:

There's a new sound, the newest sound around strangest sound that you have ever heard it's the sound that's made by worms. I ask the master, do you remember this from the late 80's, early 90's....stuck in my head...
  6:38pm Gee Lampa:

@Matt. Met him @ a pot parade in '91. All he did was hit me up for Newports.
Avatar 6:38pm david_:

Wonder what the Taco Bell menu item was...
Avatar 6:39pm βrian:

We'll wake up... But just a few more minutes, ok?
Avatar 6:39pm Megadano:

I saw David Peel in Worcester Mass in 1993 and he fired his bassist from the band on stage. It was kind of awkward for the audience....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Mike East:

Here was my confusion re: wild side: (from wiki) - "The baritone saxophone solo played over the fadeout of the song is performed by Ronnie Ross, who had taught David Bowie to play the saxophone during Bowie's childhood."
Avatar 6:40pm TDK60:

Oh...G.F.R. : my poison, your wine.
  6:40pm Gee Lampa:

@David the Chadooba. Whatever most resembled a spliff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm common:

folding laundry and makin lentils while listenin, but this is all great, clay! thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Carmichael:

I have some funny Mark Farner stories (I played 3 dates on a bill with him in 2001). But they're long, and potentially litigious.
Avatar 6:40pm Clay Pigeon:

GFR should be in the hall. Chicago, too!
Avatar 6:41pm V Priceless:

hall schmall! Phooey!
  6:42pm Dean:

Why should GFR be in Chicago? Weren't they from Michigan?
Avatar 6:42pm βrian:

Sleepy kitty haunches accompanying on percussion as we speak. (So to speak.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Matt from Springfield:

@Mike: Bowie had a nice story to go with that. He produced Lou Reed and wanted a sax solo to fade out. He called up that same guy - who nailed the solo in 1 take. Afterwards he identified himself to Ronnie by asking if he could come around on Saturdays for lessons. He responded "I don't believe it! YOU'RE Ziggy Fucking Stardust??!"
  6:42pm Gee Lampa:

@V the fact that Rundgren has never been so much as entertained is enough of an indictment.
  6:43pm Tommy:

The bass and drums ar sooo tight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm common:

fuckin bowie always. hey matt!
Avatar 6:43pm βrian:

Near Flint, as this homeboy recalls.
Avatar 6:43pm steve:

Clay i like your music shows
Avatar 6:44pm TDK60:

Clay: I usually avoid criticism. Hope I'm not raining on your show. "It's all good" as the Deadheads say, maybe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm cory:

that voice, wow
Avatar 6:44pm V Priceless:

@ Gee - I'm with ya! Procol Harum too, for starters...
  6:44pm Gee Lampa:

Queen Bee
Avatar 6:44pm Sean in Bristol UK:

What does everyone think of the latest Todd Rundgren's album, 'State'?
  6:45pm Gee Lampa:

@V hall of fame is a joke.
Avatar 6:45pm V Priceless:

@ Gee - agreed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm Marcel M:

Whenever I hear GFR I just think of Homer going into that record store and being like, "You don't have Grand FUNK!?!??!"
  6:46pm Dean:

Robin Trower in the offing? Barclay James Harvest?
Avatar 6:46pm V Priceless:

I demand a Rock & Roll Hall of Infamy !!
  6:46pm bean:

dang whos playing them hot licks on Automatic?? u rock Clay!
  6:47pm Gee Lampa:

It's as lazy as hell. Belew's "Flux" picked up the baton for innovative, interactive music. Todd stalled. "state" beats sounds like he just used GarageBand loops.

His live shows still dominate, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Matt from Springfield:

Hey common! I agree +10, fuckin' Bowie always!

@VP: YES! That's what we really need! And the inductees are invited to a HBO ceremony where they can show up blasted and curse out the audience!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Carmichael:

Todd is God. And I love that book, Clay. Very eye-opening.
Avatar 6:48pm βrian:

@V Priceless: I concur. There would be an awful lot of crossover, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Mike East:

gotta catch a bus. superfun show, Clay Pigeon. peace all
  6:48pm Gee Lampa:

Lyrically, Todd has completely crumbled.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm Matt from Springfield:

Peace unto you Pigeonnaire Mike! And a happy holiday season if I don't see you before then!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Marcel M:

Gotta run but will be listening, by Clay bye everyone!
Avatar 6:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...reminds me of Zombies' 'I Love You'...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Mike East:

You too, Matt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Matt from Springfield:

Same unto you, Pigeonnaire Marcel!
  6:51pm Dean:

The symphony metaphor should be banished from pop music. So utterly unfitting. There's a big hit with the kids these days, "Trumpets" by Jason Derulo. First two lines: "Every time that you get undressed / I hear symphonies in my head..." For crying out loud.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm dale:

relly liked that peter allen tune. had the elizabethan pop psych down perfectly
Avatar 6:52pm V Priceless:

@ Matt from Springfield - HBO Special a great idea! And Bowie 4ever - just caught that "Five Years" doc on showtime - lotsa rare footage - worth a look.
  6:52pm Dean:

"Hey, baby, why don't you slip into something more comfortable / And hum a few bars of Bruckner's Seventh."
  6:52pm sedimental:

more starcastle please. or metro.
  6:52pm Polyus:

Poltergeist II hat, what a great reference.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm chad from oregon:

As always Clay, thanks for a great show! I'll be listening off the chat - you're the best!
  6:53pm Ray:

Music is not bad but this is the most white bread tunes I've heard in an hour in my life. Thank God for African-Americans like Prince. Boy.
  6:53pm iris:

Fun show Clay!
  6:53pm Gee Lampa:

I saw the sound and vision tour in ... 89? Belew.

Amazing. Simplest stage setup... And totally immersive.
Avatar 6:54pm V Priceless:

this is great, Clay - your stuff rocks!

@ Gee - yeah, I caught that too.
  6:54pm iris:

Mean Joe Green?
Avatar 6:54pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Great show, Clay, cheerio one and all.
  6:55pm Gee Lampa:

@Ray too bad he's become so absolutely conventional. I long for the "I Wonder U" days of yore.
Avatar 6:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...okay: my older brother was lead guitarist for a notorious NH Punk artist. They were on Orange Records w/ David Peel & performed w/ him, & also some interesting tapes of jamming w/ him. Says he was a smelly hippie!...still - quadruply removed from John Lennon - ha ha...
  6:55pm iris:

Goodnight Sean!
  6:56pm Gee Lampa:

Belew's new "album" is an app. Ever evolving and rearranging itself. Todd's legacy.

It's amazing. "Flux".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm Matt from Springfield:

@RRN63: Whoa, interesting! And I think I know you the "notorious NH Punk artist" would be...
Avatar 6:57pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- let us now praise the albums of Adrian Belew.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm Matt from Springfield:

Cheerio Sean! And good night, Clay and all you Pigeonistas!

  6:59pm Ray:

Just kidding Dusty hey Dusty Springfield was good too right? This stream of conciousness thing is pretty darn good. It's like miracle nutrition put into a song.
