@Claw! 9:22 - He didn't start the fire, either. So he claims.
  9:30am Claw!:

I want sure if I was hearing this right, so I was pretty amused when my suspicions were confirmed upon looking at the song title. This is great. I need to keep this on hand for the next time I am infected with a rhinovirus.
Avatar 9:31am fred:

Hello everybody
The Billy Joel discussion reminds me that Dan Bodah is on the record saying he'd just love to get a Billy Joel cassingle. If form holds, he would even actually play it before destroying it. I've looked in garage sales nearby, no luck so far. But if you spot one, that could make a DJ happy
Avatar 9:31am Joe McG:

Billy Joel says some funny things in the MTV book. I enjoy Billy Joel interviews.
Avatar 9:33am Brian in UK:

Noel, Joel. Go to Hoel.
  9:33am Claw!:

@Ken - He may have hopped a turnstile or two, however. We may never know. Innocent until proven guilty. Most of the time.
Avatar 9:33am fred:

I think Dan Bodah once sang a Billy Joel song on the air, so their relationship is more complicated than it looks

John Allen & EFD had Christmas shows yesterday, so there are some very recent archives available.
Avatar 9:46am Marcel M:

I dig my existence man yeah
Avatar 9:46am Roberto:

This time of year, the only Christmas music I can tolerate is the Waitresses or Bob Dylan. In July, I can tolerate any kind of Christmas music due do its instant ironic value.
  9:46am Claw!:

What a nice affirming song. Did Stuart Smalley write the lyrics?
Avatar 9:47am Joe McG:

@Marcel: Good point! @Ken: Go, John and EFD! @Roberto: Check out one of my Xmas shows. No Dylan or Waitresses, though.
  9:49am Kevlicki:

Ken played rx-Happy Xmas/Whole lotta love yesterday it was incredible!
Avatar 9:49am Marcel M:

@FRED: I'm a bourbon man myself.

@BOB: Yeah, Cuba BFFL now.
Avatar 9:49am fred:

@Claw!: I'm judging from the cask strength edition, as usual there's no other choice if it's available where you are (not because it's stronger, but because only the very best casks can be bottled this way)
Avatar 9:50am bobdoesthings:

  9:51am V Priceless:

I'm partial to the Vince Guaraldi Charlie Brown Xmas record.
  9:51am Claw!:

Hmm... I'll have to look into that, Fred. I'm in D.C.
Avatar 9:53am fred:

@Marcel: It's not a bourbon, but the Sonoma County Rye made by 1512 Spirits is a thing of beauty and unfortunately limited availability. Any recommendations about bourbon? It's been a while since I last tried that
  9:54am Kevlicki:

I always dread the day after thanksgiving and going out in public b/c in know I'll have to listen to Xmas garbage from every speaker
Avatar 9:55am Cecile:

Hi, all!

Bourbon. Unless it's in bourbon balls, candy can't deal with it.

Hey, Joe do you have something from The Brother Moves On? They are a great South African group. I recommend "Good Times."

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am Greg from Bloomfield:

Morning Joe! Morning gang!
Avatar 9:59am Marcel M:

@FRED: Sounds nice. I have a friend who is into Rye and I've been trying a bit of it. I have to say I'm pretty boring with my Bourbon choices. I just drink Knob Creek and Maker's Mark... kind of like saying your favorite bands are Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am DCE:

or that you enjoy Guiness....
Avatar 10:00am Marcel M:

@Cecile: The way you wrote that makes it seem like you're calling yourself candy. Like, "Bourbon.... candy can't deal with it." Thats how I read it at least!
Avatar 10:03am Cecile:

hahahahaha, no. that was a typo. I'm no candy. More like a grouchy. Bourbon balls candy, an infantile creation of chocolate, ground up cookies and booze. Exquisite! And you can get wasted off them.
Avatar 10:04am fred:

@DCE: I do enjoy Guinness, and I'll own that statement

My abiding memory of Los Lobos is David Hidalgo hitching his jeans up after every song adjusting the accordion and on to the next number. Great band.
  10:42am P-90:

Sphere: Yes! They slapped that little acoustic conjunto thing on the fade-out. It's like something The Beatles/George Martin would do. Very cool.

  11:15am P-90:

"David Hidalgo" seems fuzzy on a few of his facts. It wasn't a winch; David's "uncle" (actually his mother's second cousin,) Julio Cortes, was injured, but the accident involved an athletic supporter and a lathe. And injuries were not so severe, the union had him back on the factory floor (in a job that could be done from a wheelchair) just a week later.

Thank Zeus we have P-90 to do our Hidalgo family fact-checking.

I agree Claw. The Industrial Trouser Tribunial does leave something to be desired, especially the name.

@P-90 I cross-referenced it with the www.texmexsexipedia.com

This Ernan Roch Song reminds me vaguely of Terry Reid in a way, but a good way.
Avatar 11:22am Joe McG:

@pb: He's sort of like a Mexican Terry Reid!

HEY, I just had that Lindisfarne LP on the 'table homewise a few days ago...
  11:24am jonathan valdez:

i LOVE this version of "I'm Set Free" my favorite VU song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am Mike East:

I was just thinking this might be my favorite VU song as well. And I remember not really liking it as much as the rest of the record when I first heard it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am Carmichael:

Heya Joe. See you played both Bill Frisell AND The Partridge Family. My kind of set!
Avatar 11:28am Joe McG:

@Mike and Jonathan: The two live discs part of the box set are great. "I'm Set Free" is previously unreleased.
  11:28am P-90:

I'll be FIRST on line when Bill Frisell releases an album of Partridge Family covers.
Avatar 11:30am Joe McG:

@P-90: Somebody stick that in his earbox soon.
Avatar 11:30am Brian in UK:

Pitch black already outside. Got to walk the dog. Have a great Christmas, Joe. See you in the New Year.

"'Tis the season for brown liquor, fa la-la-la-la-la...and single malt..."
Avatar 11:43am βrian:

Single Malt is an alluring but ultimately abusive partner. I profess my love; in return, I get a hammer to the head. Woe be me.
Avatar 11:44am fred:

Wyatt does have a unique voice. I'm not altogether sold, but I know when he's singing

@fred: An acquired taste, I guess, but one worth acquiring!
Avatar 11:48am fred:

@βrian: Cask strength is the way to go: stronger but milder on the head. If you could afford to get hammered on that stuff, you wouldn't be listening to this station
  11:48am SwazeyLane:

Just tuned in, sorry I missed R Wyatt
  11:51am P-90:

@fred: Hold your horses a second there, Pardner. I know folks that can afford to get hammered on anything they might want, who wouldn't give up WFMU for anything.
Avatar 11:51am Mayuko:

This set has been pretty oceanlike.
Avatar 11:52am fred:

@Joe: I'll keep trying, not that hard here. I've only heard high praise on him as a person, which helps
Avatar 11:52am bobdoesthings:

I'm with P-90.. why does everyone assume wfmu listeners are all broke hippy bums..

@fred 11:37 - I'll checkitout. I've given up the spirits for the season...doing my best to actively combat the seasonal depression. Looking forward to a good single malt at some point in the future, though....its been a while...I've been subsisting on Jamesons for my brown liquor which....well, you know.
