Hi, Joe! Happy Thursday!
Avatar 9:03am Marcel M:

Bad ass opening Joe. Love the original and this sounds epic.

just straight out into the stratsophere this morning, Joe? good morning!
Avatar 9:07am Marcel M:

Yeah I feel like I have to roll my spliff early today.

Oh man! A noise-rock cover of everyone's favourite Alice Coltrane number. I love this station. Greetings Joe and all...
Avatar 9:09am Joe McG:

Good morning, friends, and welcome to the program! To the universe and beyond.
  9:13am Brendan:

This reminds me of Bluegrass
Avatar 9:14am Joe McG:

@Brendan: The high lonesome wail?
Avatar 9:15am Marcel M:

Just ordered this LP!
Avatar 9:15am the Canterbury wood-elf:

Apparently this crew have been supporting Hawkwind of late. Sounds like a perfect night out to me (earplugs necessary I suspect).

That was nice.....

Damn that does sound like an amazing bill!
  9:18am Claw!:

Good morning, indeed! Nice groove here...
Hey Joe! Hey Urrybody!
Avatar 9:22am Joe McG:

@Marcel: Nice! The payola was worth it. @Claw!: There are TWO good versions of this on the 9-CD BOX SET we just got.
Avatar 9:26am PKNY:

Good TZAG, Joe and ev-er-ry-body! Just added to my holiday to-do list: get more familiar with Earthling Society. Stellar choice of cover material!

Hey Joe.

Life is a box set.
  9:31am Claw!:

:-0 Wowwwwiiiieeee!
I'm hoping you'll be playing more hott jamz from this box set!
Avatar 9:31am Joe McG:

@Brian: Ha! With too many bad outtakes.
Avatar 9:31am Brian in UK:

Do you folks still refer to the lavatory as the 'can'.
Avatar 9:31am Marcel M:

@Joe: Looking forward to hearing the rest of the record.
Avatar 9:33am Marcel M:

I bought that can "I want more" picture disc 7" at the St. Marks Kims location when I was 18 or so. I had just discovered the first four or five records and was blown away/obbsessed. I was VERY confused by "I want more" when I got home and spun it.
  9:33am Claw!:

"Plastiktanz," eh?
Mama likey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am Liz Berg:

Killin' it already today, McGasko!
Avatar 9:35am Joe McG:

  9:36am Brendan:

Props for the Beefheart, Joe
  9:38am Brendan:

I wonder if Capn beefheart is referred to as anticuchos in Peru
Avatar 9:43am Marcel M:

@Joe: No I haven't! Will have to check it out.

This Peruvian "Hey Joe" is an absolute nuthouse! Anybody who doesn't love this is an idiot.
  9:50am Brendan:

Yeah Joe, where ARE you going with that toilet plunger and mop in your hand?
Avatar 9:53am Brian in UK:

Joe's Celestial Sequencing.
Avatar 9:56am βrian:

Terna dos Curumins; Looks to mean "Land of children."
Avatar 9:58am βrian:

Scratch that. Misread the first word, but maybe the second is similar to "urchins?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am Greg from Bloomfield:

Morning, Joe! Morning, gang!
Avatar 10:00am DeaconDave:

Where am I?
Avatar 10:00am βrian:

So is that to mean, "England, have my bones?" Or "England has my bones?"
  10:01am bill:

Tried watching Roller Boogie last night, had to turn it off
Avatar 10:01am the Canterbury wood-elf:

@βrian: Yeah, that missing comma was puzzling me too!
Avatar 10:02am Joe McG:

@Brian: Only the band knows. They either don't believe in commas or they conjugate poorly.
Avatar 10:02am Brian in UK:

Olde Ingerlish like.
  10:02am Claw!:

I love this kind of shit, because I'm a funk junkie AND a grooveaholic.
You're my pusher man, Joe.
  10:03am Claw!:

Dat trumpet, doe...
Avatar 10:03am the Canterbury wood-elf:

Not enough mariachi-style trumpet solos in disco!
Avatar 10:04am Don'tTellMeIfYouFindATypoInMyNovel:

But can you take it really really REALLY funky...?
Avatar 10:04am OTB:

If ever there was music to update the copier codes spreadsheet to, this would be it.
Avatar 10:04am Joe McG:

@Claw!: Ha ha! @Canterbury: I've got a disco 12" with a VIOLIN solo on it with me. Should I play it?
  10:05am Claw!:

I vote "yes."
Avatar 10:06am Brian in UK:

I'm as funky as a washing line
I'm as funky as a sheep dip
I'm as funky as a spirit level
I'm as funky as Richard Branson
Avatar 10:06am the Canterbury wood-elf:

@Joe Please do! Violin lines in disco were always far too limited (those rapid descents). And yes, ES may conjugate poorly, but they rock very very well!
Avatar 10:06am Brian in UK:

Joe got any funk bagpipes. Pibloch.
Avatar 10:08am Joe McG:

You got it, listen for the violin solo in the middle, highly unexpected!
  10:09am Claw!:

Love that disco bass progression, too.
  10:09am Brian:

That was indeed super funky...
Avatar 10:10am ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Anyone remember a kids magazine in the 70's called Dynamite? This song should be it's anthem.
  10:11am Brendan:

This all funked up
  10:11am Claw!:

@Brian - you might wanna hear some Rufus Harley, but he's definitely not THIS funky.
Avatar 10:12am OTB:

Jennique: Yes! Got it from the Scholastic order form from school. I think Scott Baio and Leif Garrett were in every issue....
  10:12am Claw!:

There it is!
  10:12am Brendan:

Jean Luc Ponty?
Avatar 10:12am the Canterbury wood-elf:

That violin solo kind of worked!
  10:13am Mark:

Oh, yes, this is indeed...dy-no-mite!
Avatar 10:13am the Canterbury wood-elf:

...and a trumpet solo to boot. Got any bassoon disco?
Avatar 10:14am βrian:

Ach, love bassoon! Music on the DL.
Avatar 10:14am the Canterbury wood-elf:

I was actually joking, but Google isn't - Joe, you MUST track this one down!
  10:15am Mark:

"Dynamite" should have been in "Rocky"--like when he's training with Apollo Creed.
Avatar 10:15am Brian in UK:

I'm a cor anglais man, personally. (indicates gruff accent)
Avatar 10:15am Joe McG:

Oh, Canterbury, I NEED that record!!!!
  10:16am Claw!:

We need some disco washboard up in dis bitch!
  10:16am Mark:

"I Love Your Big Bassoon"--if you know what I'm sayin'.
Avatar 10:18am βrian:

Schwanzstucker disco?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Ken From Hyde Park:

Here's the joke I made up today:
Kid: "Don't get smooth peanut butter. Get the other kind."

Avatar 10:20am Brian in UK:

Get some cream for it, Joe.
Avatar 10:21am βrian:

I have a disco record saw.
Avatar 10:24am Joe McG:

I think Dionne was looking for her "e" during this number. She doesn't appear to be in attendance.
  10:26am Claw!:

Joe knows - I have Eleanor Rigby on saw. It's as awesome as you'd imagine.

How about disco ER??? Ya got that?
  10:27am Mark:

This is the album with the 18 minute version of "By the Time I Get to Phoenix." "Chocolate Chip" is one of the silliest things I've ever heard. This guitar player's trying to keep it real by going all Ernie Isley/Hendrix, but it ain't workin'.
Avatar 10:28am Joe McG:

@Mark: No, actually, this is the one where he and Dionne combine "Phoenix" and "Walk On By" into an amazing medley. You're thinking of "Hot Buttered Soul."
  10:29am Mark:

Oh, you're right!
  10:30am Brendan:

This part of the song they break into the outro of Freebird
Avatar 10:31am Marcel M:

Its that time!
Avatar 10:31am the Canterbury wood-elf:

Disco Freebird anyone?
Avatar 10:34am Cheri Pi:

Good morning Sonny boy and friends

Avatar 10:36am ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

i think we need to bring back the catch phrase DY NO MITE. Really. It sounds so good saying it. Jimmie Walker was onto something.
  10:36am Brendan:

I loved JJs and Thelma's interchanges.
Avatar 10:37am Joe McG:

That's a DY-NO-MITE idea, Jennique!
Avatar 10:38am βrian:

It especially worked for Jimmie because he had the choppers.
  10:41am Nate K:

James and Bobby! Nice one.
  10:42am Mark:

You realize every office in Manhattan is having a big dance party right now, right? No work is getting done, phones are ringing off the hook, the world economy is on pause...
Avatar 10:43am βrian:

"If the good lord didn't want you to shake your tailfeather, she wouldn't have given you such a wide and expansive one."
Avatar 10:43am Joe McG:

Hey, Nate! @Mark: That's such a pretty picture you painted, Mark!
Avatar 10:44am βrian:

@Mark: You mean Wall Street regulation is a reality now?
Avatar 10:49am Marcel M:

Work time :-(. Bye Joe, bye all!
  10:49am Mark:

Joe, I'm pretty sure it's a variation on a scene from "The Blues Brothers." Brian, quite the contrary--with no regulations you're free to dance while your risky investments implode, secure in the knowledge that the American taxpayer will always have your back
Avatar 10:51am Joe McG:

I used to have a Blues Brothers 45 but I lost it.

  10:56am Nate K:

Ann Peebles did this right?
Avatar 10:57am Joe McG:

@Brendan: It bothers me a bit that he avoided the obvious rhyme in that song."You know you make me happy/You make me smile when I'm feeling badly." Should be "crappy," don't you think?
Avatar 10:58am Joe McG:

@Nate: Yeah! First LP? I can't remember!

Billy Squier must live somewhere near New Orleans cause he pops up at shows there from time to time.

Too bad Tony doesn't archive Tape Hiss shows. It was a doozy.
Avatar 11:20am Cecile:

@Roberto I just took that show for granted. Watching the years I missed just showed me that the quality dropped from amazing to merely outstanding, and there were tons of gems I missed. I couldn't gripe about that.
