Happy December, Listener James! Hope you survived and/or enjoyed the holidays.

@Jeff: A little from column A, a little from column B. Woke up each day, all I ask of a morning.

Uncle Michael:

Any jazz artists ever cover any Lennon/McCartney compositions?
Avatar 12:15pm
Jeff J:

Ha, Uncle Michael. There might have been one or two.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 12:16pm
Uncle Michael:

Wow. Cool!
Avatar 12:20pm
Jeff J:

Anyone else having the stream cut out on them?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm
Doug Schulkind:

No cutting out here.
Avatar 12:22pm
βrian:

Mine's not cutting out. But I have noticed I can never step into the same stream twice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm
Doug Schulkind:

Geri Allen is the new Director of Jazz Studies at the Univ. of Pittsburgh. She took over for Nathan Davis who retired last year. Davis started and ran the department for more than 30 (maybe even 40) years.
Avatar 12:24pm
Jeff J:

You may have pinpointed my problem, Brian. An existential correction needed as much as an audio one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm
Jeff Golick:

Talk to Myra Melford, βrian. Also: hello there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm
Jeff Golick:

That's a pretty solid legacy, Doug.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 12:27pm

Stream skipped a bit maybe 6 minutes ago but now we're solid.

Hello Jeffeses. I keep having trouble with the stream cutting in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm
Jeff Golick:

Ah, hello, Brian in UK. Sorry to hear re stream. Will a take a quick peek under the hood...
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 1:00pm
Brian in UK:

Do you mean the bonnet, old chap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm
Jeff Golick:

Don't make us knock you into the boot, now, Brian.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 1:01pm
listener james from westwood:

The boot, the boot, the boot's on the tire....
@Brian: I learned the UK usage of "bonnet" via Amanda's fave, "The Young Ones."
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 1:03pm
Brian in UK:

james I do like the expression 'hood ornament'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm

Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 1:05pm

This Ornette is tasty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm
Jeff Golick:

agreed, Brian. This cut, "Zig Zag," can also be found on the Ornette album, "Best of the Blue Note Years." Ahem.

Tyre and Sidon? Woe unto them.

βrian:

They say you can't make an Ornette without breaking a few eggs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm
Doug Schulkind:

Never heard this! MD's That Sax Pax for a Sax LP is one of my all-timers.
Avatar 1:47pm
Jeff J:

Love that Sax Pax as well, Doug. Nice version by Irabagon, but seems like a missed opportunity not to have a tribute album called "Moondoggle."
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 1:53pm
listener james from westwood:

I was lucky enough to have been exposed to "The Rite of Spring" very early in life, both thru my mom's record collection and the early-70s re-release of "Fantasia," so you can imagine how much I'm digging this Hofbauer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm
Jeff Golick:

The Rite has had something of a moment this year. I think we've seen three new jazz-ish releases of it.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 1:56pm
listener james from westwood:

Perhaps inspired by its centennial, IIRC last year?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
Jeff Golick:

Uh, that *would* make some sense, @ljfw!

(duh.)
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
Uncle Michael:

I forgot you're still doing only two hours. Dang.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 1:57pm

Plus Howard Shore cribbed one of its more recognizable parts for the "Lord of the Rings" soundtrack.
Boffo show, Jeff and Jeff, and many thanks!
