Hey, Holly. That's close enough.
  9:06pm Carmichael:

Yo Dave, Keith and everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm Cubicle Carl:

Hi Dave. FMU is actually kinda my escape from the holidays, if you know what I mean.
Avatar 9:08pm Dave Mandl:

Hey Carmichael, Carl.
@Carl: I know exactly what you mean.

Avatar 9:34pm Dave Mandl:

Avatar 9:35pm Dave Mandl:

@BDR: No offense taken. The clicks are my bed music.

@BDR: I like to repeat things.
  9:40pm JakeGould:

Nice one, Dave!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Daevid here really reminds me of Edward Ka-spell - or vice versa...
Avatar 9:46pm Dave Mandl:

@RRN63: You're right. The similarities are striking.
Avatar 9:46pm Mugsy:

Daevid Allen seems to have a healthy sense of humor going through his song titles.
  9:46pm Carmichael:

This is nice. The latent LSD from the 70s is re-emerging ....
Avatar 9:48pm Dave Mandl:

@Mugsy: Major hippie.
Avatar 9:48pm Dave Mandl:

  9:50pm rw:

Dave, would it be cool with you if I forwarded this playlist to Santa?
Avatar 9:51pm Dave Mandl:

@rw: Sure. He'll know where to find all this stuff.
  9:54pm Lonely Planet Boy:

feelin' it
  9:54pm rw:

Thanks, man.
  9:56pm HollyT:

This Skip James song is amazing. (I admit to first having heard it in 'Ghost World'.)
  9:57pm P-90:

Oh yeah, Some Skip James for Thanksgiving. There's always room in any mix for some Delta Blues, IMO
  10:01pm HollyT:

D, I'm sure you must've read the story about Sherman Hemsley (George Jefferson) being a HUGE gong fan, and putting Daevid Allen up in his NY apt, and it being a total den of iniquity?
Avatar 10:01pm Dave Mandl:

@Holly: Was that in Ghost World? I didn't remember.
  10:02pm Eric the Half a Bee:

Saw Daevid w/Bill Laswell, New York Gong, at Kent State in the late '70s. Put THAT in your pipe and have yourself a cup of tea, eh, mate?
Avatar 10:02pm Dave Mandl:

@Holly: Yes indeed. There are some really amazing stories about Sherman flying Daevid Allen out to Hollywood etc.
  10:02pm HollyT:

Yes. It's sort of a major plot point, in fact.
  10:03pm Carmichael:

@Holly, I also heard about that from other FMU jocks.
  10:03pm HollyT:

@DM, you're right, it was Hollywood, not NY. And Sherman supposedly had an LSD lab in his basement.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Someone said that if Son House was a spooky tree on a hill, & Skip James was an eerie wind, then Robert Johnson was that wind thru that tree.
  10:06pm P-90:

@HollyT: I don't remember that from Ghost World either, but I am familiar with the exploits of my prog-fanatic brother Sherman H.
  10:07pm HollyT:

@RevolutionRabbit, in that case, what I want to know is: who was the crow that coasted along the eerie wind to land in the spooky tree?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I also read someone asked why one would believe what Daevid Allen said about that & it was probably apocryphal - but it's better if it's not...
Avatar 10:07pm Dave Mandl:

There's a scene from The Jeffersons where George Jefferson is grooving to a Nektar song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@HollyT: One hand cannot hear it if it falls in the forrest.
  10:09pm Carmichael:

@Dave: seriously?? I need to watch more 70s black sitcoms!
  10:10pm Prog Police:

@dm, http://dangerousminds.net/comments/weezy_get_me_some_lsd_george_jefferson_is_a_big_prog_rock_fan
  10:10pm HollyT:

Man, you guys need to watch GW again. Enid buys the record from Seymour on a whim. She finally listens to it weeks later, and it changes her life. It's quite an amazing scene. Anyone who's ever had that moment (as I'm sure we all have) of first hearing a song/artist and KNOWING you would never be quite the same again, will totally get it.
Avatar 10:11pm Mugsy:

Nektar has a million songs, where would you suggest I start?
Avatar 10:11pm Dave Mandl:

@Prog: That's it!
  10:12pm P-90:

I'm still hoping to find the clip of Sheman doing an "interpretive dance piece" to Gentle Giant's song "Proclamation" on Dinah Shore's afternoon talk show in the 70's.
  10:12pm Carmichael:

@Mugsy, Remember the Future.
  10:12pm HollyT:

@carmichael: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKHY3pMEUJs
  10:14pm Carmichael:

Thanks Holly!
  10:14pm P-90:

(SHERMAN) - not "She-man". sheesh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

SkipJames in GhostWorld:
Avatar 10:15pm Mugsy:

Thanks Carmichael.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...between ThoraBirch digging SkipJames & Sherman Hemsley digging Nektar - is that some kinda complete circle - ??..
  10:20pm JakeGould:

Thanks for the “Country Tonk.” Always love that one.
  10:21pm P-90:

"Country Honk": one of the Stones great, largely overlooked moments.
@Holly: Thanks for the Sherman clip. Dude had moves.
Avatar 10:23pm Dave Mandl:

@Jake, @P-90: I love "Let It Bleed."
  10:23pm Carmichael:

Todd!! Todd like, anyway. They appeared on TR's Back to the Bars LP.
Avatar 10:25pm Dave Mandl:

@Carmichael: Todd's song, produced by Todd. It sounds exactly like him.
  10:26pm Brian in New Orleans:

wow! so that's where Styx stole "Babe" from...who knew?
Avatar 10:26pm Mugsy:

  10:26pm Carmichael:

@Dave: ya, big hit on Adventures in Utopia.
  10:27pm Prog Police:

  10:27pm Carmichael:

I spy with my little eye, some Ron Wood geetar ...
Avatar 10:28pm Mugsy:

Something different about hearing this on my radio station, the MIGHTY WFMU.
Avatar 10:28pm Dave Mandl:

@Prog: I'll bring that number back down in the next set.
  10:31pm JakeGould:

What a great song indeed! Great Rod Stewart choice.
  10:33pm P-90:

For my money, "Let it Bleed" is the most consistently brilliant of the top 3-4 Stones albums.
re: ">2%": So? It's a fuggin' holiday. This set, w/ the Stones and Faces, now this was REAL "free form" set, Son
  10:39pm JakeGould:

“The band initially recorded the track called "Country Honk", in London in early March 1969. Brian Jones was present during these sessions and may have played on the first handful of takes and demos. It was his last recording session with the band. The song was transformed into the familiar electric, riff-based hit single "Honky Tonk Women" sometime in the spring of 1969, prior to Mick Taylor's joining the group.”
Avatar 10:40pm Dave Mandl:

@P-90: Why, thanks.
  10:43pm JakeGould:

“Richards has repeatedly stated that "Country Honk" is how "Honky Tonk Women" was originally written.” Sorry for my OCD on this, but I like it when there is evidence of positive creative growth in something familiar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm pacific standard simon:

Hey, what it is, Dave my man! Gimme five!
Avatar 10:53pm Dave Mandl:

Hey, pss. How's it going?
Avatar 10:56pm Mugsy:

@P-90: Why, thanks. Repeat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm pacific standard simon:

We had a 4-hour power outage yesterday. I got to stay home from work, put on long underwear, and sit by the fireplace until it was over.
Avatar 11:01pm Mugsy:

  11:10pm Carmichael:

@pss: that's actually pretty awesome.
Avatar 11:13pm Dave Mandl:

@pss: Boy, I wish I had a fireplace.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm pacific standard simon:

I'm not taking it for granted, because it's the first fireplace I've had since I was a boy, and it requires a lot of maintenance. Also, when the the blackout was over, I still had to go to work and do 7 hours worth of stuff in 5 hours.
Avatar 11:24pm Dave Mandl:

@pss: Sorry to hear that. But still--fireplace!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm Ĩkє:

Thanks DM for the sounds which helped me not go completely bonkers while trying to find a parking space for an hour. BTW, NYCers, for sale: '94 Honda Accord, stick shift, w/FMU bumper sticker! Runs well. Good FM reception. Retractable antenna can't be broken off by dirty punks or malignant hippies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm pacific standard simon:

I used to have a pile of fake logs with some transparent bits, and a flame-colored plastic thing behind the logs that lit up and rotated when you plugged it in. It was similar to a fire, except it wasn't warm and the motor made a whirring noise.
Avatar 11:34pm Dave Mandl:

@Ike: You're welcome. Good luck selling the car. The FMU bumper sticker may help.
  11:35pm trsh:

Talk of fireplaces makes me nostaligic for years heated by a wood stove. I haven't had to split wood with an axe in quite some time.. it's like riding a bike, isn't it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36pm Andrew Waterloo:

strange coincidence. I just turned on WFMU to here a live performance from the guy whose live performance I had to miss tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@pss: Sounds like the 'tea' the computer on the spaceship in 'Hitchhiker's Guide' made; it could not understand why the British Earthling preferred leaves steeped in water (?)...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm pacific standard simon:

Life is funny, Andrew.
  11:39pm P-90:

WFMU: The #1 spot on your radio dial to hear bands you unfortunately just missed the performances of...!
  11:40pm JakeGould:

“I still had to go to work and do 7 hours worth of stuff in 5 hours.” OH NO! 7 hours of work in 5! NOOOOO!
Avatar 11:42pm Mugsy:

io Track #1-6 is Sobre Mineras on spotify.
  11:43pm P-90:

I'd get ALL kines of shit done if I could do seven hours worth in five! Hi PSS. Was the entire island without power?
Avatar 11:43pm Dave Mandl:

@Mugsy: Ah, thanks. That happens a lot. Why isn't the title written on the disc?
Avatar 11:44pm Dave Mandl:

@Mugsy: Wait, it's six parts?
Avatar 11:45pm Mugsy:

Sobre Mineras No.1, Sobre Mineras No.2, etc.
Avatar 11:45pm Dave Mandl:

@Mugsy: Great, thanks.
Avatar 11:47pm Mugsy:

Great show tonight man. Have a good week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm pacific standard simon:

Jake, I'd think your OCD would rebel at doing seven hours of work in any more or less than seven hours.

P-90, reports vary. Some say it was only up to Wyatt.
  11:48pm JakeGould:

Nah, my OCD ramps up on speed. But no hate. Respect.
Avatar 11:49pm Dave Mandl:

@Mugsy: Thanks. Same to you.
