Avatar 2:30pm Kurt Gottschalk:

The gif might be by Seb Agudelo but the Internet is rather confusing today.
Avatar 3:04pm Mark Helsten:

Yes. Yes it is confusing.
Avatar 3:05pm Mark Helsten:

So is that CD
Avatar 3:18pm steve:

didnt realize Merzbow's drummer was a legit jazz guy, though i suppose i shouldve guessed
Avatar 3:18pm Mark Helsten:

Quiet on here today!
Avatar 3:19pm ironybread:

Your WFMU forecast calls for 20% chance of a cut by Mostly Other People Do The Killing.
Avatar 3:20pm Kurt Gottschalk:

steve, i don't know how long he's been playing jazz but he's very involved with the rare noise label (which is relatively new). he's on a lot of those releases.
  3:31pm rw:

I have a story about seeing Wadada Leo Smith many years ago. I would love to tell it but it's too long and would just come across as irrelevant.
Avatar 3:32pm Kurt Gottschalk:

tell it! no one else is posting.
  3:36pm Dean:

Hum-de-dum...hum-de dum... I sure would love to hear an irrelevant Wadada Leo Smith story right about now...
  3:38pm rw:

Okay, okay....Went with my friend Vito to see him perform at a place called the Jazz Bakery in LA. I didn't know of him but the description sounded interesting. We got lost on the way and almost bailed. There were maybe five other people in the audience. WLS had six other players with him. Really good show. Afterward we were saying we were glad we went, not only because it was a good show, but because if we hadn't there would have been more performers than audience.
  3:39pm rw:

Avatar 3:39pm ironybread:

Thank you RW. Neither irrelevant nor too long.
  3:39pm Dean:

This was the old Jazz Bakery at the Helms Bakery building? Love that place. Heard Steve Lacy there, Max Roach, Alan Broadbent. Would love to have heard WLS.
Avatar 3:41pm steve:

thanks Kurt, ill be checking that label out.
  3:41pm rw:

Dean, yes. I think it was the second location within the Bakery. First one was in a photo studio. Second one was a dedicated performance space. I don't know if they're still there. I have a feeling they've moved.
  3:42pm Dean:

I'm no longer in LA, but I know they have moved to nicer digs. The old place was great, though. Kinda funky, folding chairs, not unlike McCabe's Guitar Shop on Santa Monica Blvd.
  3:46pm P-90:

Little bit of Fontiere's Outer Limits music mixed in back there. Hi Dr. Gottschalk and Minatourists.
  3:48pm rw:

And yeah, Jazz Bakery was cool. Maybe still is but I rarely get out. Would have loved to have seen Lacy there! My McCabe's story... Saw somebody there... can't remember who, but Bjork was in the audience. She was not so famous back then. I had to laugh because even though she wasn't performing she was wearing her hair in those ridiculous buns.
Avatar 3:55pm Kurt Gottschalk:

thanks rw, i'll get back to this in a second.
  3:56pm emmagisneering:

this bed music!
  3:56pm Dean:

I've heard Jonathan Richman at McCabe's, and Steve Lacy with Roswell Rudd.
  4:00pm rw:

JR at McCabes sounds like fun!
Avatar 4:02pm 37:

this show is so rockin' it's making my head hurt... fanfreakingtastic!
Avatar 4:04pm steve:

this is real nice
Avatar 4:05pm Kurt Gottschalk:

rw, your story reminded me of seeing william parker's big band (the little huey creative music orchestra) some years back. william started to introduce the band at the end of the show and pianist cooper-moore said "what? there's more of them then there are of us, they should introduce themselves to us!" so we went through the audience one by one and told the band our names.
  4:06pm rw:

Ha! Good story! Did the band reciprocate?
  4:07pm rw:

I mean, did they finish introducing themselves?
Avatar 4:08pm Kurt Gottschalk:

nope, i think it was pretty clear we knew who they were.
  4:10pm rw:

Avatar 4:13pm Cecile:

Q: What do you call a sleeping Fennesz?
A: Fenneszzz
Avatar 4:14pm Cecile:

Oh, damn, Kurt, I was at a Cooper Moore show unfortunately scheduled for Valentine's Day in St. Paul, and 10 people showed up. Oy.
Avatar 4:17pm cory:

fallout keeps appearing today, is that a sign that I should play?
Avatar 4:19pm Kurt Gottschalk:

cecile, dang, i hope it was solo and not a 12tet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Carmichael:

Avatar 4:26pm 37:

Avatar 4:27pm Cecile:

Kurt, it was solo fortunately.
  4:27pm rw:

If I'm working on the computer and trying to decide between coffee or beer I should go for water, right?
Avatar 4:27pm Kurt Gottschalk:

what is nontraditional killing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

DavidShea was the Prisoner track w/ the Guitar & 'Electric Harpsichord' sound? ('Spy Jazz' sorta?) No track title so cannot be ☆ed : ( - really liked that one too! (well - whole Playlist, & Playlist *as* a Whole...)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Ken From Hyde Park:

For the folks leaving for a week of Thanksgiving celebration, safe travels to you all. Watch out for beer-drinking motorists.
  4:53pm rw:

Not to dwell here, but 37, if during the course of the interview they ask you a question about coffee, beer and water you know what to say, right?
Avatar 4:53pm ironybread:

This song is a little long for a ringtone, but when Cthulhu calls I want to be ready. Downloading now.
