Go San Fran!

No work today! whoo!

@treavis: This is an NFL-free zone! I DVR football games!

Great Song The Jesters song

I gave up football for Radio
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm fred:

Many thanks for playing Pan Ron, this means a lot to me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm Gaylord Fields:

@MikeY: I've convinced myself I can do both, but the Giants are making it worth the trouble this season.
Avatar 5:08pm sugarwolf:

I approve of a sports-free zone.

This is beautiful
Avatar 5:14pm glenn:

i would totally support a team named the dwarves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm Gaylord Fields:

@fred: Isn't it, though?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Gaylord Fields:

@glenn: What about a band named the Giants?
Avatar 5:16pm glenn:

well, they might be giants for sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm fred:

@glenn: I like your thinking, and there's a team in DC that could use a new name
Avatar 5:18pm glenn:

ted snyder might sue me, that turd of misery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Gaylord Fields:

@glenn: I like my giants like I like my meat: young and marbleized.
  5:20pm Mark:

Digging this Shaukachi shit.
Avatar 5:22pm kat330:

Hey now, G'lord. My my, "The Wind" worked beautifully -- like a breeze -- behind the ice skating routine of Jason Brown some moments ago.
Avatar 5:24pm sugarwolf:

Can't they make THIS Scott Walker the governor of Wisconsin?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm Gaylord Fields:

@kat330: I decided about a minute before my show began that I wanted to play "The Wind," and I'm glad I did. It set the show on its inevitable course for wherever.
Avatar 5:25pm kat330:

Was also watching ice skating routines w/ audio off and a bit of Teenage Wasteland soundtrack instead. So mollusk when moves synch to unintended music. "Beyond the Sea" and "The Boy from NYC" worked especially well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm fred:

@sugarwolf: If only... I'd move there, and I like the weather there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Gaylord Fields:

@kat330: I could use new skates. Thanks for inspiring me.
Avatar 5:28pm kat330:

Philo should be along in a bit. I am getting a special reprieve from kitchen duty tonight. He is preparing some special Finnish feast, keeping it all secret-like, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Gaylord Fields:

This Scott Walker would actually follow through on the longstanding promise to change the state's license plate motto to "Eat Cheese or Die"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Gaylord Fields:

@kat330: Lovely! What will the meat course be?
Avatar 5:28pm glenn:

THIS scott walker is probably 10 times crazier than the other scott walker.
Avatar 5:30pm kat330:

@Gaylord: You'll have to ask Philo -- and probably after 6 pm. I believe it's some form of beef though.
Avatar 5:31pm Philo Gristle:

Hi Gaylord -- shhh. it's reindeer. Blitzen's done for.
Avatar 5:32pm kat330:

Stop it, just stop it, Mr. Gristle!
Avatar 5:32pm Philo Gristle:

Not really.:) It's a surprise, therefore I shall not announce it until it's been plated. Lovely sounds, though, to cook to. Once every six months.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Gaylord Fields:

@Philo Gristle: As long as it's Young, Marbleized and Giant.
  5:34pm Julie:

I am here only to make sure you pronounce the pastels correctly, Gaylord
Avatar 5:35pm Philo Gristle:

Well, I'm taking Giant Steps if nothing else. Not a cook. But I can read and follow instructions....
Avatar 5:36pm kat330:

@Gaylord: Yes, anything but Gristle-y.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Gaylord Fields:

@Julie: /pæstɛ́lz/
Avatar 5:41pm kat330:

@Gaylord: Your slashes remind me, what the hey does this translate as? /ʃí lə́vz jú jéə jéə jéə ʃí lə́vz jú lɪéə lɪéə lɪéə/ Google Translate wasn't any help.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Gaylord Fields:

@kat330: With your kind indulgence, I don't like to share interpretations of my show titles. It's a bit of mystery I'd like to maintain, though there are clues.
Avatar 5:45pm kat330:

That's fine, but interpretation is another step beyond literal translation, yes? Still, if you'd prefer not, no problem.
  5:45pm dave in Vermont:

oops, @Gaylord I was just about to offer my translation: @Kat: Sorry, I think I should honor Gaylord's policy since it is his show
Avatar 5:46pm kat330:

Ohhhh, OK! Just now read it aloud to myself ... got it!

@Dave: Isn't that what I just said?
  5:46pm V Priceless:

Hi Gaylord! Thanks for the groovy tunes!
Avatar 5:48pm kat330:

@Dave: On the same wavelength I hope! :)

Yes, these last two have been especially sublime to my ear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Gaylord Fields:

@dave in Vermont: It's fine for you to speculate here; just forgive me if I happen not to confirm your speculation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Gaylord Fields:

As long as it's not NFL scores, I'm okay with it.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Gaylord, you are truly a Giant among DJs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Gaylord Fields:

@Ken From Hyde Park: I'm enjoying this show myself so far, I'm happy to admit.
Avatar 5:55pm kat330:

@Gaylord: My speculation: something familiar from the British Invajion in a dialect of your own devising.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Gaylord Fields:

@kat330: I will neither confirm nor deny.
Avatar 5:58pm kat330:

"You may very well think so, but I couldn't possibly comment." Believe that's how it went from the delightful Brit version of "House of Cards."
Avatar 6:00pm glenn:

i will confirm and deny at the same time. take that, aeschylus.

Hello people and others.
Avatar 6:05pm kat330:

Can't type for a bit because it's thumbs up on Philo's "reindill" and fingers wrapped 'round fork and knife. Yummy!
Avatar 6:15pm extinct_species:

@Gaylord @Kat - the building next to me is called the "Gaylord" its old now but you can tell twas majestic.. like you can tell a loott has happened there.. strange.
Avatar 6:16pm Philo Gristle:

Lovely sounds....
  6:17pm P-90:

@extinct: Can you tell us in what neighborhood "The Gaylord" stands?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Gaylord Fields:

@Philo Gristle: I hope the music complements the meal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm Gaylord Fields:

@extinct_species: Is it in L.A.? I know there's an majestic old building there that shares my name (and that of my guest from last month).
Avatar 6:20pm Philo Gristle:

@Gaylord It did! Mellow sounds for a mellow meal of traditional finnish 'tilliliha,' kind of a roast beef in a dill sauce.
Avatar 6:23pm extinct_species:

@fleep: Yes, that's the one I was thinking of.
Avatar 6:27pm glenn:

Avatar 6:27pm kat330:

@ extinct_species: How lucky you are! Such a beautiful city. Philo and I are in the Knee of the Knob, as IN Knob Knee.
Avatar 6:28pm extinct_species:

@flee wow ! www.gaylordsuites.com my gayloed is a hotel now,, and very weird people come in and out of there... it looks nicer in the pics
Avatar 6:29pm kat330:

I meant to type *OTOH* we're in the Knee of the Knob.
Avatar 6:30pm extinct_species:

@Kat thanks! SF used to be home but I am actually passing here for a few days visiting friends (who took my old apt!). I live in Seattle now. Another lovely place
  6:31pm P-90:

@extinct: thanks
@Fleep: I recognize The Gaylord from the Wilshire District! I think it's in the vicinity of the apartment building that's used as the exterior of "Jerry's" bldg on Seinfeld.
Avatar 6:31pm kat330:

extinct_species: Indeed another. I was first in your lovely hometown for the Seattle World's Fair as a child. Richard Nixon was whisked past us to the front of our very long line to enter the Space Needle.
  6:34pm KP:

Hey Gaylord, dig that Tommy Roe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Gaylord Fields:

@KP: He should win some sort of versatility prize.
  6:36pm Mike Sin:

Just finished a long drive while listening to your show. Thanks for making the trip cool and smooth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Gaylord Fields:

@Mike Sin: My pleasure, brother Sin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Gaylord Fields:

@kat330: You don't earn the nickname "Tricky Dick" by being a part-timer.
Avatar 6:44pm kat330:

@Gaylord: He wasn't even holding any office at the time. But my dad had a film camera of the era, so we got Dick on reel. Nice tie-in with watching the latest two installments of Shearer's "Nixon's the One" reenactments on YouTube.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:45pm Uncle Michael:

I gotta start getting up earlier than this.
  6:46pm P-90:

@Kat: He seemed like a man who was used to being whisked to the front of the line?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Gaylord Fields:

@Uncle Michael: And good morning to you!
Avatar 6:48pm kat330:

S.b "movie" not "film camera" but not certain of the mm. I was but a child.

@P-90: Oh, very much so, indeed. Space Needle might have been worth the wait, but I recall loving the Telstar exhibit -- the song still evokes great memories.
Avatar 6:48pm Philo Gristle:

Fantastic groove on this set... Gershon King Combo has a more spectacular beat than Gershon Kingsley.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:49pm Uncle Michael:

My favorite version of Telstar is the demo with Joe Meek singing the melody.
Avatar 6:50pm kat330:

@UM: Not 100% certain I know that version. But that comet landing was a recent excitement. I have the soundclip of it "singing" and plan to use it in some new music piece.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Gaylord Fields:

@Uncle Michael: Joe Meek gives hope to all tone-deaf would-be music producers.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Uncle Michael:

Good idea. That was some sound it makes.

That he does, Gaylord. That he does.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:53pm Uncle Michael:

Kat, the Meek version is comical. As Gaylord says, he was utterly tone-deaf. I mean...even worse than I.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm northguineahills:

Thanks Gaylord Fields, off to go clean the dishes!
Avatar 6:54pm kat330:

Ahh, then I definitely don't know it. I realize people singing off-key and badly tuned instruments are a real hoot for people to play at FMU, but I must spin the dial.
  🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:55pm 12539:

Thanks, Gaylord!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm Gaylord Fields:

@northguineahills: I hope you'll be whistling while you work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm Gaylord Fields:

@12539: Aw, shucks!
Avatar 6:56pm extinct_species:

@kat that mustve been quite a experience... it's still consistently full of pople at the Space Needle.. specially cuc the museum of music is there now ( dunno if you are familiar)..If you visit i am sure you will find it lovely :)
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:57pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...this Guy Warren from Benin track sounds so much like a Smithsonian CD I have of Haitian Voudon-related tracks...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:57pm Uncle Michael:

I seldom do "hoots." I'd like a good excuse to do a bad music show. Maybe when April Fools falls on a Friday....

Thanks for the great last 15 minutes, Gaylord. I'm sure it matched what preceded it.
Avatar 6:57pm kat330:

@Gaylord: It is one world indeed, and your program is one fine sampling of our world. Thanks!

@extinct_species: Well, I was again in Seattle a bit more recently -- '98 -- and had the chance to appreciate it much more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm Gaylord Fields:

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: That makes sense. Guy Warren (a.k.a. Kofi Ghanaba, from Ghana) was a pan-Aricanist who plumbed African music from American Jazz to Central and Southern African styles.
Avatar 7:00pm Philo Gristle:

Thanks, Gaylord, for the wonderful show!
Avatar 7:00pm kat330:

@UM: Well, actually, I think sometimes it isn't even meant as a hoot. Some DJs just not possessing a fine ear for such things, or doling out favors.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:01pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- cheers. I mean this CD :
...always fascinated by how straight the line is from Rawk>Blues>Caribbean>WestAfrica...
