Sam Peckinpah directed the "Convoy" film, but, no, not this song. "C.W. McCall was invented for the Metz Baking Co. ad campaign by William Fries, which evolved to the ad man's songs in character with arranger Chip Davis (who later formed Mannheim Steamroller).
Ah, country WHN in 1976. ("Convoy," "The White Knight," Tom T. Hall. On another AM button the Shocking Blue oldie was in heavy rotation.)
