A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Our neighbors put a "crow collar" on a particularly noisy hen recently. It seems to work, and the hen doesn't seem to mind it.

Voting is VERY overrated when "both" parties are owned by the elites... I only did it to avoid your wrath, Trouble, and wrote myself in for state senate.

Breathing is overrated, too. But there are consequences.

Morning all, just popping in as I am off today. Saw this fantastic article in NYTimes about an art project in Upper Manhattan where artist are spray painting murals of birds threatened by climate change. All inspired by Audubon who lived on 159th and "the Hudson". Check it, nice time lapse video. www.nytimes.com...

YES, I AM SUPERIOR, which is what anyone with standards in non-criminal politicians is used to being called. (Were you the rabbit on the grassy knoll?) Anyway keep it up with the basement-level expectations, it's why the Dems don't listen to a thing to the left of Rob Reiner...
Avatar 10:17am OTB:

The Toure Raichel Collective is hip!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@BillW: I believe your SocioPolitical awareness clearly *is* Superior to Average. I just don't agree it should keep you - or anyone - from Voting for the better of the choices we actually have @ any given time. & I agree w/ you (& Howard Dean on last 'Meet The Press') that the Dems have important things to learn.

- Who knows what the Manuscript says - but it puts me in mind of a talk by Terrance McKenna on Psychedelic Salon
( feeds.feedburner.com... )
called 'Earth Mind & Monkey Mind' : this is the >Direct Download mp3 Link< should anyone be interested :
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am adrian in mpls:

@Bill W - I tend to agree with you. When the choice means choosing between war criminals or political/economic oligarchs....this is a choice of the damned.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...The bitter Reality is the U.S. tends Center Right - certainly after Reagan - & certainly after the Republican Revolution years of Gingrich & Karl Rove destroyed Bipartisan cooperation to actually tend to the needs of the People & the actual Country. It's not *my* choice that it's so Polarized - or that the Left has been dragged so far to the 'Center'. But it's the Facts now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am rsj:

it's all nader's fault
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am Webhamster Henry:

Now that's a segue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@rsj: Naturaly - one wants for more than Two Parties in a nation of 300+million - it's exactly what we need. But - they tend to just be Spoilers - on the Right (Perot, Buchanon) as well as Nader on the Left ! Remember!: The Nazis won the Elections by a few thousand Votes (that's right - Elected) - because the other Parties divided the Vote up too much ! This is serious business.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am fred:

@RRN63: at this point national elections are just choosing your favorite flavor of oligarch. Vote in local elections, where it could make a difference. Maybe you could even run.
  10:38am Bill W:

I am diggin' Sapphire Slows
  10:42am fourstringheroes:

loved that mndsgn... how does one say that? is it, like, men design?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@fred: I think this is a large part of what John Lennon for instance was trying to teach us about Activism - & what Trouble has said about Patriarchal Hero Worship. In the ♒Aquarian Age - it's about how much we can Grow Up & become Individualized - & Govern for ourselves. Government is hiring other people to run things for you. That's fine if those people have better skills to do it & agree w/ you. There's no guarantee of that whatsoever...It's a long evolutionary climb to this kind of 'Adulthood', though.
Avatar 10:43am bobdoesthings:

I won tickets to see victor hererro on wfmu a few years ago.. but he got kicked out of the US!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am fred:

@RRN63: study the Tea Party's playbook. There's no reason those plays wouldn't work for progressives as well as conservatives. As you said, there's been too much trust in delegation. Your own tradition says as much
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am Trouble:

that sucks, bobdoesthings. i can't understand the US
policy on artists. maybe they don't really have one, that's the problem...
  10:52am dave from toronto:

that mateo song sounds like the melody from "what a difference a day makes"
Avatar 10:52am bobdoesthings:

@trouble ... yeah but I also saw Josephine Foster that night! so the night wasn't totally ruined.
Avatar 10:55am bobdoesthings:

Oh really? didn't know that..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am fred:

@bobdoesthings: that seems downright sane compared to the french policy: Vietnamese musicians didn't get a visa though it was the cultural "year of Viet Nam". Reason from the embassy: why don't you hire Corsican singers instead?
Corsican people are prevalent in organized crime, police, and politics, in alphabetical order

Hello everybody! Was that Wooden Wand song a cover? I feel like I've heard it before but it didn't sound familiar. Probably just my brain misfiring but thought I'd ask.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am rsj:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am adrian in mpls:

@rsj - i thought it was funny! esp. as someone who voted for him three times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

reading Rachel Kushner's first book "Telex from Cuba." Not as fan-freaking-tastic as "The Flamethrowers," but still very fun, about the American colony in Cuba right before the '59 revolution.

Halfway through "The Art Of Jay Ward"...just started a collection of Springsteen interviews that I got a few Christmases ago, but also just grabbed John Waters' "Carsick" from the liberry. Reading one on the train, one in bed, and one in the living room.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am coelacanth:

Thanks.I will,Trouble.
I'm not reading anything very interesting right now; "the third bicycle",which my young nephew wants me to read, has an interesting underlying theme but the nonsense dialogue has gotten tedious.(he said it's like Vonnegut, but i suspect he's never read Vonnegut.)

Adrian -Yes there was mention of chooks!
  11:59am rw:

Thanks Trouble for another engaging show!
I have a quandary about an art exhibit that was in NY and is now here in LA but it may be a can of worms I don't want to open... Definitely too late to open this late in the show. Maybe another time. Thanks again Trouble! Congrats on the goal! Have a great week everybody!

@erik: Wonder if would compare @ all to HST's very early 'Rum Diary' about Puerto Rico :
...took me too long to figure that a book for each room is the way...

- Sorry - really - for Political Ranting, Everyone. This was a tough Election - & it's hard to not be miffed about the low turnout. I agree w/ all you say really - except that Not Voting is better than Voting for the Less Evil of what's offered. Unfortunately, that's a Vote for the Worst in reality. That's my only point, really.

- & Show flawless Trouble !
Avatar 6:48am ghostofpeterfalk:

Hi Trouble - thrilled you reached your goal!!! Many congratulations! And well done for pronouncing Mirfield correctly. It's in West Yorkshire, in case you're interested ; ) A great show as usual. And I should mention that the passage of music beginning with Seu Jorge and ending with Debruit was among my very favourites so far, in my relatively short time listening to your wonderful show. Well done again Trouble.
