kurt, caryn, cecile , common and all...hello.
Avatar 3:07pm Sandy in Houston:

oooo Lexie Mountain Boys! my band played a show w/ them years ago. I liked them.
Avatar 3:08pm northguineahills:

Yeah, Lexie Mountain Boys are the tops!
Avatar 3:15pm Cecile:

that is the best Taylor Swift song I have ever heard.
Avatar 3:16pm V Priceless:

what Cecile said
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm common:

what vp said
Avatar 3:20pm still b/p:

It was a little like whalesong for a moment.

I think I can now name two Taylor Swift songs. For me now, the ratio of media TS references encountered to identifiable songs is 600 to 2.
Avatar 3:21pm V Priceless:

(who's secured their voivod tix?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Caryn:

Ooh, that's 3 Taylor Swift songs for me! So that's 600 to 3? Nice.
Avatar 3:23pm V Priceless:

Track 3 and no Song 2, that's for sure.
Avatar 3:24pm V Priceless:

ain't no - d'oh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Caryn:

@VP: true, but as such, it's also not as likely to be used as the soundtrack of every frigging NHL "best moments from the game" montage ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Kat in Chicago:

I Am Sitting In An Office Stifling My Laughter
Avatar 3:31pm V Priceless:

@ Caryn - indeed! Madness for sure! I would also like to wage war on that tired NFL theme which rips-off "Sleigh Ride"!
Avatar 3:33pm Kurt Gottschalk:

hi everyone! thanks for tuning in for the taylor noise!
Avatar 3:34pm still b/p:

Take-out at the OK Corral.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Caryn:

@VP: speaking of the NFL, the history of the Super Bowl half-time show is hilarious. George Burns once performed! Carol Channing has performed twice! The performing group with the most half-time shows under its belt? Up With People! Good grief, people!
Avatar 3:39pm DJ Stashu:

Just logged on to hear this!
Avatar 3:39pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Carol Channing would be the peak of everything. No point in continuing after that. Seriously.
Avatar 3:39pm Cecile:

I'd rather see up with People than Bruno Mars with guest star Anthony Kiedis
Avatar 3:39pm Cecile:

Avatar 3:40pm Kurt Gottschalk:

just in time, stashu!
Avatar 3:40pm DJ Stashu:

I know, how weird...
Avatar 3:41pm Kurt Gottschalk:

c'mon, you planned it...
Avatar 3:41pm DJ Stashu:

Nope. I did not. But it seems that way.
Avatar 3:41pm glenn:

Up With People and Lexie Mountain Boys!
Avatar 3:43pm DJ Stashu:

Kurt all these remixes are good! Yum yum.
Avatar 3:44pm glenn:

i was thinking of cecile when i heard phil rudd was under arrest for trying to have two unnamed new zealanders killed. i thought it might be the flight of the conchords dudes.
Avatar 3:44pm Kurt Gottschalk:

Avatar 3:45pm Cecile:

glenn, I was just thinking "Thank God it's something with kids again."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Caryn:

@Rev. TD: true, but if we'd stopped after Channing, there wouldn't have been a Prince half-time show, and Kurt would not be happy. Or Edward James Olmos narrating a half-time show about the "Tapestry of Nations". Or the Indiana Jones-themed half-time show. Come on, those last two sound like must-sees!

And if we'd stopped after the first Channing show, we wouldn't have gotten the second one, which was a tribute to Louis Armstrong with Ella Fitzgerald and Al Hirt. I just want to know what those 3 did...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Caryn:

And now I want some Kendal Mint Cake. Yum.
Avatar 3:47pm V Priceless:

if I won mega-millions, i'd pay off everyone in my path to ensure a super bowl halftime SLADE reunion!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I heard the NZ police changed their mind about Phil Rudd and have dropped the charges.

  3:48pm Cin:

I would love to hear Marc Cohn's, "Walking In Memphis," if it's not too much trouble.
Avatar 3:48pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Caryn: You may be right. To be fair I haven't watched a 'bowl since about 1978. Which makes me a disqualified misfit. ..
Avatar 3:49pm glenn:

ummmm. just a guess, but wouldn't half the slade guys have to make like lazarus?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm steve:

this has been pretty awesome so far
Avatar 3:49pm V Priceless:

@glenn - nope, not yet, thank the godz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Caryn:

I'd still love to see a Weird Al Yankovic half-time show.
Avatar 3:50pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

come to think of it, i probably haven't seen any kind of NFL (entire game, that is) since about '78...
Avatar 3:50pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I'd tune in for a Survival Research Laboratories halftime show.
  3:50pm Cin:

I want Kasabian for halftime.
Avatar 3:51pm Sandy in Houston:

I like these remixes, I don't know that they keep the minimalist spirit of the original but I'm not sure I mind.
Avatar 3:51pm glenn:

i'm with the rev. i hate the n.f.l.
Avatar 3:51pm V Priceless:

I'd lobby for a pere ubu half time stint, or Devo, for that matter, would be...perfect!

Kraftwerk half-time show!
Avatar 3:53pm V Priceless:

i'd get behind that, Caryn..or maybe..Shatner!
Avatar 3:54pm rothwell:

SRL should be in the NFL
Avatar 3:55pm glenn:

why does anybody actually give a flying fuck WHAT taylor swift thinks, says or does?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Caryn:

Maybe they should return to the themed half-time shows. "Pepsi presents: a salute to Breaking Bad!"
Or best of all "Pledging listeners present: a tribute to WFMU".
  3:56pm Cin:

I care. We must support our young artists and the promise they offer for the future.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm common:

good stuff
Avatar 3:57pm glenn:

maybe if she was jonathan swift, i'd care.
  3:58pm Cin:

What about a big David Blaine vs. Chris Angel Magic-Off? With Kreskin getting a lifetime achievement award.
Avatar 3:58pm Jan Fallada:

Gorgeous subliminal swift radio! Greetings from Belgium!
Avatar 4:00pm V Priceless:

@ Cin - nice!

@glenn - though JS would appreciate the sarcasm involved here
Avatar 4:01pm Sandy in Houston:

damn it I missed weasel's remix.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Caryn:

I'm not a huge Taylor Swift fan, but I salute her for having the business acumen from a young age to hang on to her song rights and actively manage how her music is distributed and marketed. Managing to make a living in music, do what you want, and also not have all your money stolen through bad business deals, shady managers etc. is a good thing, considering the long history of bands, singers and songwriters who are good at the music bit but don't understand the business side, and end up getting shafted as a result.
Avatar 4:03pm glenn:

another great thing about toronto. www.blogto.com...
Avatar 4:04pm glenn:

or not, depending.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Caryn:

That reminds me, the local grocery store just introduced 3 new bacons, including a garlic bacon. I need to try that at some point.
Avatar 4:07pm Cecile:

I think we need another Tapestry of Nations half time show.
Actually made out of tapestry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm steve:

noise makes everything better. noise heals all.
Avatar 4:09pm glenn:

garlic bacon? oh caryn, it's like when gomez hears morticia speaking french.
Avatar 4:11pm Cecile:

I just discovered that a kickass old-school organic bakery (lots of breads with sour starters) is delivering through Bite Squad here in Mpls. That is too tempting.
Avatar 4:13pm Cecile:

"uh, bring me a loaf of sour rye, four croissants, some molasses pig cookies and a half gallon of milk. Oh, you want something, honey?"
Avatar 4:13pm V Priceless:

bite squad = band name of the week
Avatar 4:14pm Cecile:

if it's not trademarked.
They are my go-to when the cooking inspiration's up and gone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm common:

currently having what i believe to be my last beer at this shit job. cheers!
Avatar 4:18pm Cecile:

do you have another shit job lined up?
Avatar 4:18pm still b/p:

Or at least another beer lined up?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Caryn:

@Cecile: I think an actual tapestry might make for a more appetising line-up than the original Tapestry of Nations line-up was.

These half-time info bits weird me out. I never realised the U2 half-time show was supposed to be a 9/11 tribute.
And George Burns starring in a half-time show that starts with "Ghost Riders in the Sky" and ends with "When You Wish Upon a Star"? Ooo-kay...
The Indiana Jones half-time show starred Miami Sound Machine, Tony Bennett and Patti Labelle? Whuh?
Avatar 4:19pm Cecile:

what sbp said.
Avatar 4:19pm Cecile:

A Weird Al half time show looks better and better.
Avatar 4:21pm still b/p:

Tapas Tree....mmmmmm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm common:

not yet cecile. been lookin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm common:

@bp: i do have another couple o beers lined up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Caryn:

Exactly, Cecile!

Or the WFMU half-time show. I'm imagining a shorter version of the Hoof & Mouth Symphonia, with some guest stars, like Yo La Tengo. And possibly a finale involving Ken floating away in a lawn chair tied to balloons.
Avatar 4:24pm Cecile:

any nibbles, common?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Caryn:

My mother-in-law got laid off last week, after 30 years at the same company. Ugh, recession. Keeping my fingers crossed for you, common!
Avatar 4:27pm V Priceless:

FMU Jesus Christ Superstar musical...i'm not letting go of that one!
Avatar 4:28pm Cecile:

Tyro Rex Supersaur would be better...
Avatar 4:28pm Cecile:

Avatar 4:29pm V Priceless:

hey common - good luck on the new job quest!

@ Cecile - right! I forgot about that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm common:

thanks caryn! appreciate it. sucks about your mother-in-law. no nibbles yet, cecile. again, does anyone need an assistant? beer boy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Caryn:

@VP: let's make that into a half-time show! The NFL would love that: family-friendly theme, musical, supposedly panders to the religious right...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm common:

and thanks vp!
Avatar 4:33pm glenn:

do you female types know the toast?
Avatar 4:34pm V Priceless:

@ Caryn - 'supposedly' being the operative word!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Caryn:

@common: well, at least 30 years gets her a decent severance packet. I suggest if nothing else, that you swipe some stationery or something from your job as you go.
Avatar 4:35pm Cecile:

no, looks interesting
Avatar 4:37pm rothwell:

is Ensemble Dal Niente quoting John Baldessari?
Avatar 4:37pm glenn:

especially this stuff. - the-toast.net...
Avatar 4:37pm rothwell:

among others?
Avatar 4:38pm Cecile:

oh! yes! Someone posted "women listening in art history" from there. Now I remember.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm common:

i plan on it, caryn!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm common:

happy weekending all...beeeeeeersies!!! and thanks for the kind words.
Avatar 4:40pm Kurt Gottschalk:

hey rothwell - there's no credit for the text on that track so ... maybe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Caryn:

@glenn: heh!

@common: any beersies you can swipe?
Avatar 4:45pm rothwell:

thx for looking, Kurt! :) I actually remember now it was Douglas Huebler who said, "The world is full of objects, more or less interesting; I do not wish to add any more."
Avatar 4:46pm Kurt Gottschalk:

nice line, rwell.
Avatar 4:47pm rothwell:

Without Words is a great piece.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Caryn:

@VP: very much "supposedly"! I wonder if we could get John Lydon for the WFMU version, since the version he was signed up for got cancelled?
  4:48pm Dean:

rothwell nailed it. From Einbond's Wordpress page: "Texts, fragments, translations, and paraphrases — from Marianne Moore, Wallace Stevens, Matsuo Basho, and Douglas Huebler among others — come together with field recordings, solar data, internet searches, found objects, and vocal and instrumental samples from the performers themselves in a work that could be described by a term borrowed from concrete poetry: verbivocovisual."
Avatar 4:48pm V Priceless:

@Caryn - that would be a 'Rotten' head start
Avatar 4:51pm Cecile:

this is a good pop-psych album but a terrible Rolling Stones album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm rsj:

i love this album, I feel like I just awoke
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Caryn:

HER Satanic Majesties Request? Should I view that as a Freudian slip?
  4:55pm Dean:

Ronnie Lane and Steve Marriott were on that Stones tune?!
Avatar 5:00pm Kurt Gottschalk:

did i say 'his'? whoops
  5:01pm Brendan:

The 'Zeppelin played here ' movie looks at whether they played at the Wheaton, Md youth center in front of 50 fans in 1969. The gym is pretty old and about to be torn down.
  5:04pm Brendan:

Would have been there 1st US show and would have coincided with Nixon's inauguration.
Avatar 5:08pm glenn:

in the "too stupid to live category" www.torontosun.com...
  5:21pm Brendan:

This is excellent to sing whilst sitting on the bowl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Caryn:

@glenn: maybe she was going for the " so obvious and in your face that you ignore it" tactic?
Avatar 5:32pm glenn:

oh, right. well, it didn't work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm chris:

i like to imagine gif lady is singing the moss lyrics
Avatar 5:34pm Kurt Gottschalk:

yeah, i'd think an "i hate crystal meth" shirt might work better.
  5:35pm SeanG:

Now it's dark
Avatar 5:35pm Kurt Gottschalk:

haah, yeah chris, that works nicely. (the it's a taylor swift gif, btw)
  5:35pm Dean:

There's another Moss featuring Theo Bleckmann that sounds a little different than this one. http://www.amazon.com/Moss/dp/B0014DC0IC
Avatar 5:38pm Kurt Gottschalk:

olivia block is also in a band called moss.
  5:39pm Dean:

Of all of these incarnations of Moss, The Rolling Stones have gathered none!

Hello hello
  5:43pm Brendan:

You could get a i
Avatar 5:47pm coelacanth:

I'm unwinding to the soothing sounds of Moss. I unfortunately missed the Taylor swift segment- i'm sure also bliss-inducing.
