A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Avatar 9:24am Marcel M:

Me too MD.. always since I was a kid and my mom would listen to it, I would picture a cake melting in the rain... and I would wonder... why? just... why?
Avatar 9:25am glenn:

it's a pretty bad song, i gotta say, but it revels in its awfulness.
  9:25am Will:

AH, the "boogie down" movement of MacArthur Park -- my favorite passage.

Avatar 9:29am PKNY:

Gotta say, the Wikipedia page for MP is a good read --> en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 9:30am Roberto:

If the Erie Lackawanna is in service, this recording dates to sometime in the 1960s. And there it is -- '62.

Listeners feel free to compare and contrast the days of yore when one of the cartoon characters derived extrordinary powers from eating spinach, with today's sugar infused cereal sponsorship of animated characters. Hmmmm?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@Troub: I suspect it was sometime around when MarianneFaithful was a junkie living on a city wall outdoors...as KeefRiffhard said - she's always an Artist willing to risk & do the interesting thing.
Avatar 10:06am bobdoesthings:

is it too late to get my cat Lucas on the ballot?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@QB: What's your view on Underdog pills ? (Very 60s perhaps)...
  10:07am kym:

Check out Marianne Faithfull's autobiography ('Faithfull'). It's an incredible read and she doesn't pull any punches. After she fell out with Mick Jagger she was inspired by William Burroughs to become a drug addict and spent several years living on a wall before going into rehab. Her voice changed considerably during the interim.
Avatar 10:08am Marcel M:

The propaganda is really flying today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...well - since he was a dawg - maybe they were just wormpills w/ side effects...
  10:18am ratty:

kym.. do you mean the very new autobiography or the one from 2000? thnx
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am Adrian in London:

Hi Trouble and listeners. I caught up with last week's show a couple of nights ago. Lovely set from Mia Doi Todd.
  10:19am kat330:

Hi! Just tuned in and caught your question about Marianne Faithfull's deepening voice? I'd suggest cigarettes + menopause, but the latter doesn't affect all women that way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Greg from Bloomfield:

With 0% of the precincts reporting, I am prepared to call the race for JENNIE THE CAT. She has gained what I can only assume is an insurmountable lead.
Avatar 10:21am Trouble:

hey adrian!! and she is even more wonderful live with band, see her if you can, you would love it!
Avatar 10:21am bobdoesthings:

@greg - Typical Jennie the cat behavior. Disgusting how biased her whole platform is..
  10:21am kym:

ratty, I didn't realize there was a new one. I meant the one from 2000; it is fantastically written.
Avatar 10:23am Dominick:

Perez!!
Avatar 10:23am Rev. Turnip Druid:

who has carrot cake?
  10:23am Jman:

hey trouble! it looks like question #1 on the ballot addresses a law that only allows no bail for capital offenses, which only applies to the death penalty no longer existing in NJ. This amendment will allow judges to deny bail to those dangerous to society, likely to not appear in court for hearing, and/or obstruct the criminal justice process. A number of senators and assemblyman voted yes to have this on the ballot.
  10:25am kym:

@ratty- Actually, I just realized that the one I have is from 1994 (maybe revised in 2000?). At any rate, it is the one cowritten by David Dalton.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Greg from Bloomfield:

Jennie is a cat of the people!
  10:27am Greg Red:

Hey Trouble,
I went to Mia Doi Todd's show last week. Beautiful voice and the musicians she played with were tremendous. Thanks for having her on and tipping me off.
  10:31am ratty:

kym, thanks. thats a cross-off on my christmas list
Avatar 10:31am Trouble:

wasn't that an amazing show greg? and the place was so perfect for that brazilian moment...
Avatar 10:32am Trouble:

sorry for yelling....Remember "Rock The Vote!!!!"
Rock the vote Baby!!
Avatar 10:52am still b/p:

An outfit that might be national did a get-out-the-vote thing around here by email and snail mail that some recipients found offensive and creepy. With varying accuracy, it lists the personal voting history of you and your neighbors in recent elections -- not how you voted, but the years you did and did not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am Webhamster Henry:

That's true - I got it too, from "New Yorkers Together"
Avatar 10:54am OTB:

b/p - that really is creepy. And infuriating.
Avatar 10:57am βrian:

In WI they're tracking citizens who signed the recall petition.
Avatar 10:59am Sem Chumbo:

Liking this John Fahey. Lovely.
  11:02am David Redbranch:

Fahey hits the spot! Why do I not hear more of him on FMU? Thanks for rectifying this deficit.
Avatar 11:06am Kurt Gottschalk:

the exhibit was beautiful. annea's pice was especially wonderful. i spent a long time with that and betsey biggs' sunken garden piece.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am Webhamster Henry:

Hi Annea! I hope to get to see these pieces next time they come around, and also to set up similar environmental sound pieces at the Widow Jane Mine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am paul b:

Fabio had a guest on his show a few years ago who had compositions created from dropping a microphone into a river (in Brazil I think) and recording sounds made while it rained or while fish swam by.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am jamesie:

fascinating!
Avatar 11:51am Hot Mess:
