Don't believe I've heard this one before, one where she stays in her upper range for most all the song.
Avatar 12:44pm
Cecile:

what's interesting is that Todd was a young man who was already quite a veteran in the music biz, and Laura made him do a 180 turn in terms of his songwriting.

Todd's a very inventive guy, @Henry. He was in good voice last night. @kat, Laura Nyro is one of my all-time favorite singers. Such an amazing vocal range and depth of songwriting. She and Todd may have been a couple at one point.
  12:55pm

Todd's song "Baby Let's Swing" on Runt, his 1st solo album, directly addresses Laura. I think he might have been 22 and head over heels...

It sounds like he had a crush on her, but what seems to be true is that Nyro asked Todd to be her bandleader which he had to turn down, and he helped her finish her last albujm.

Only Nyro I knew: And When I Die, Eli's Comin', Stoned Soul Picnic, Up on the Roof and Wedding Bell Blues. So thanks muchly, Irene, for that Captain track.

The 1st ELO album, the only one with Roy Wood, was called 'No Answer' in the USA. It is the only ELO album worth mentioning. Lynne's songs were very good and Roy could no wrong, at least up until that album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm
Irene Trudel:

Food is something to eat. :) It's also a band that put out a really great album in 1969. Members included Steve White on vocals, Bill Wukovich on guitar/vocals, Eric Scott Filipowich on bass, Barry Mraz on drums and Ted Ashford on keyboards.
Avatar 2:14pm
Cecile:

I like some of the other ELO quite a bit. And the first couple of Roy solo joints were pretty special, too.
  2:14pm
don d:

"I am the Tall Tree". I am the Tree ain't a bad song either, thanks to GBV...Long Live The Flock- great 1st album....where is Fred Glickstein these days...
Avatar 2:16pm
Cecile:

I am a Tree was a song by one of Doug Gillard's early band, Gem.
  2:17pm
don d:

Cecile- Boulders was great (most of those songs were pre the ELO album). Mustard has some moments but by Wizzard his writing got safe and mostly uninteresting. His stuff with The Move almost w/o peer during that period.
  2:18pm
don d:

Didn't that Cecile about I am a tree-will look for it- great song on a great GBV album...

that I agree with. And also Eddy and the Falcons has some pretty sweet moments.
