Hey, almost birthday boy, how's it going?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Gaylord Fields:

@sugarwolf: I'll have a talk with Ra about changing that.
  5:16pm GeesyCreesy:

This Nashville Ramblers tune sounds like it could have influenced Pollard and GBV.
  5:17pm V Priceless:

Hi Gaylord! Good to hear ya!

@Geesy Good catch, agreed 100%.

...& someone needs to finally address & articulate the notion of some Indian interpretations of WesternPop/Rawk as being the Original 'MashUps' (in quotes)...
Avatar 5:29pm Philo Gristle:

@RR I was trying to figure out what familiar song I was hearing during that Asha & Kishore tune!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- I think a tiny figure of 'I Feel Fine' was picked...

Someone could make a whole Thesis out of The Beatles & India's effects & influences on each other ; I would even get all Joseph Campbell & start w/ comparing TheBeatles & the Myth of Krishna (a naughty Holy youngster - turning on all those Gopis @ once w/ his Music...)
...& the guy who did 'How the Beatles Rocked the Kremlin' :
- could do the film doc as a follow-up !...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Gaylord Fields:

@kat330: I had leftover Navrattan Korma yesterday for dinner. Perhaps that meal choice influenced the set.
Avatar 5:42pm kat330:

Yum. My last tikka was several days ago. It's all-American victuals tonight.

I guess because we lie enough south of NYC, it's still light here.
Avatar 5:42pm steve:

oh man, i need Indian food. also im enjoying the show!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@GF: So - what's the story of that NewPicadilly's being the same music but dif words as 'ZootSuit' (preWh♂) - ??

...I came to the conclusion on MaryWing's during the timechange that MBV sound like a Tardis...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Gaylord Fields:

Thanks, @steve.
Avatar 5:44pm Philo Gristle:

@RR Thanks for the YT link -- too long to check out during the show, but looks intriguing! Just put up a quickie video for a Kat-Kover yesterday, it's not the work I put into her "Black Crow Blues," but it fits the music... www.youtube.com...
Avatar 5:45pm kat330:

Ooh, this bass zings right through me. Not the kind of female vocal I like, but this bass is quite nice.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- oh nice! Love Donovan. Sue me.
Avatar 5:47pm kat330:

Guess it's actually a synth bit?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Gaylord Fields:

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: The High Numbers' "Zoot Suit" is a 100% steal off a song by the Detroit R&B group the Dynamics called "Misery." The New Piccadillys cover the original (which is a FANTASTIC song) -- I play it whenever I DJ out!

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Did everyone have a pleasant Halloween?
Avatar 5:55pm Philo Gristle:

Nice to hear some Hamish instead of just David! Nice mood to this tune.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...The (mostly I guess?) British ripoff of R&B right then was a bit like alluding to Classical music in Rawk in later eras: just knowing anything about it - whatsoever - was like being some kind of Occultist @ that point...Actual Credit was for later
...& - quite obviously - just damn convenient in Business terms (nudge nudge)...
Avatar 5:59pm Sem Chumbo:

Very quiet here, rainy and cold so I had eight or nine kids and turned the lights off at 6:45. Got stuck with quite a few lobster claws as a result. Can I UPS you the remainder? They're uncooked:-P
  5:59pm JakeGould:

Hello people! What a scary weekend: Halloween, daylight savings time & the marathon in NYC.
Avatar 5:59pm kat330:

Today's APOD is a beautiful celestial painting. Although Epimetheus kind of looks like a supermassive booger Jim Carrey (as Matthew Mahogany) might roll between his fingers in a Lincoln ad.
Avatar 6:01pm kat330:

@Sem: Noooooo! We also had a blustery cold evening, but we managed to unload ALL our 50+ baggies of candy. True, we gave them out by the fistfuls, but at least they're gone.
Avatar 6:05pm TDK60:

Thanks for giving us The Chills, Gaylord.
Avatar 6:05pm Sem Chumbo:

@kat: lucky kids, that's the spirit. Didn't really give lobster claws, but some kind of gummi zombie dreck, serious junk food, and just nasty. Weather probably saved a few lives:-)
Avatar 6:05pm glenn:

jim carrey IS a supermassive booger.
Avatar 6:05pm Philo Gristle:

@Sem Lobster claws??? I assume a candy variant....

@GF: Lovely bleeps and bloops. Starred!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 6:10pm kat330:

@Sem: We had one adorable kid who politely took just one baggie, and I urged him to take more. He wouldn't though. Guess he'd been brought up well.

@Glenn: Aw. Jim's rubber and your glue -- like the kind on the back of P.O. stamps, like the kind bearing his supermassive mug -- and .. however else that goes.
Avatar 6:11pm kat330:

you're....eeesh, I see my typing has not improved with the extra hour...
  6:12pm JakeGould:

Anyone here ever see Jim Carrey’s art? Makes me happy he’s getting back into movies.
Avatar 6:12pm glenn:

and did i mention that he can't act and isn't funny?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:13pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@Philo: ellipses indicate implied subtextual thots & temporal forward motion in (hopefully) a continuity. Will. Not. Use them now.
Avatar 6:13pm Sem Chumbo:

@glenn: he is from Newmarket, Ontario. Miracles, you expected?
  6:14pm JakeGould:

Yeah, that too. But his art is like obnoxious because he deiced to get a “studio” in the West Village to be “bohemian” and then he created some subpar street art crap.
Avatar 6:15pm kat330:

Not starting a thing here, but I have found it super curious how it's considered a major no-no to criticize music / singers on the FMU comments, but everything else is fair game to trash and harshly, too. Wonder why that is?
Avatar 6:16pm Philo Gristle:

@RR :) In my case it does not imply subtext. Sub-unconscious, more like it. Adapting to surroundings.
  6:16pm JakeGould:

Because WFMU is a radio station. And I just said my fill of what I think about Jim Carrey. So hey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Gaylord Fields:

@kat330: Music arguments on a comment board of a music show may have a propensity to be too contentious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm maestroso:

Fantastic! So much fun to play during my touring years!
Avatar 6:17pm kat330:

He's not my fave human being or actor by a long shot, but he's miles above many of the artists heard on FMU in terms of talent.
Avatar 6:17pm glenn:

and grew up in scarborough. two strikes.
  6:18pm JakeGould:

To be fair, Jim Carrey is good at the one trick he has. And I respect that to be honest. But it’s not a trick that does anything for me.
Avatar 6:18pm glenn:

and besides, wayne and shuster.
Avatar 6:19pm kat330:

@GF: Well, coming from the world of theater myself, it seems equally contentious to be so cruel and blunt in stating distaste of someone.
  6:19pm JakeGould:

I do like Lush. And am pleasantly surprised by the WFMU DJs who have been playing them recently.
Avatar 6:20pm glenn:

well, why do big ass book stores play music? why don't they have audiobooks being read over in store sound system?
Avatar 6:20pm kat330:

Sem Chumbo, Chapa Mamba -- nice rhythm to that.
  6:20pm JakeGould:

Kat, is anyone talking about someone who is a local actor or playwright on their way to something? Or are we talking about a millionaire Hollywood actor who can stink at every role yet still have a career?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm Gaylord Fields:

@kat330: There's not a "pure" problem with criticism per se, but on the WFMU comment board, people tend to be very passionate about their musical likes and dislikes.
  6:22pm JakeGould:

Don’t get me started on Jandek (<-- All I will ever say about Jandek)
Avatar 6:22pm kat330:

I'm not going to be drawn further into it. I just see a real hypocrisy in comments, and it's bothered me from the get-go. SOME people are allowed to trash musical artists with impunity. Others express their opinion -- without resorting to cruelty -- and get PILED on by the group. 'Nuf said and I got to tend to food in the kitchen.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:22pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...NewHampshuh here can claim AdamSandler (& GG Allin...& The Shaggs) ; I thot Carrey was right for 'Mask' - but I don't need more
- as was CameronD in I think 1st flick
- OMG! she looked...
- uh...we were saying - ??...
- oh! - Carrey was good as AndyKaufman! ; he's a good living CartoonCharacter
...it's up to the Directors & Writers & Casting turds & MoneyMen to give these people something that'll work for their particular potentials ! Otherwise - I can't blame them for grasping the biggest payout.
...Ellipses also imply just a Duration of Time Passing (which may or may not imply Subtextual Thot goin' on): a thing I would like to be able to convey:..., ..., ...
(people go for [crickets])...I kinda think like a Musician...or something...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm Gaylord Fields:

@kat330: I like people to play nice here, and that's that. I don't give a flying fish about other people's houses.
  🎸 6:26pm b k:

Just walking out the door to see Todd Rundgren at B.B. Kings. On Friday night on Long Island he covered "Muskrat Love".Hoping for more weirdness tonight.
  6:27pm JakeGould:

@kat330: Life is not black & white. And there’s shades of grey to all interactions. If Jim Carrey’s ego was bruised by my comments, I will gladly buy him lunch on my dime.
Avatar 6:27pm Philo Gristle:

Carrey was fine in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (and a few others), so was Adam Sandler in Punch-Drunk Love. Matthew Mahogany has been on a good streak despite being horrible in horrible films for years.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Todd's actually in my absurd little town Tue. ! - a block away.
...I don't got enuff $.
  6:28pm JakeGould:

@Philo Exactly. Those two movies & roles I respect. But I respect performances & roles. I do not lionize stars as if they are Gods that walk amongst us.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...similar things about Robin Williams - whose Improv skills were enuff for me !
- but - I'm not actually nutty into Cinema like I am Music. So - I recuse myself @ a point.
  6:31pm JakeGould:

I liked Robin Williams to a point, but I don’t trip over myself to just see a… THING… because Robin Williams is in it. That kind of fandom I don’t get.
  🎸 6:33pm b k:

Rabbit,I hope you get to Todd show. Many odd covers.(Lorne Greene!)
Avatar 6:36pm Philo Gristle:

Being quiet & introverted I find people like Carrey and Williams astounding. I mean I'll watch a Bergman or a Fellini film over anything any of them has done ever, any day, but it's a talent completely alien to me and as such highly interesting. In small doses.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I lived in Santa Barbara in SoCal a long while - & it gives you that sort of perspective on Celebrity & Class: your there, I'm here, you're Rich - I ain't - whatever. NYC I know not @ all - but it must be like that too.

- The other thing is the Market is all TopDown now - w/ everything (including Media) owned by a Few - who MarketTest everything into numbing banality

...Also: Tech has changed the nature of the Consumption: everything ever more sensationalistic (guns!! Car explosionsss!!) - & less reflective & accessible (instantly) - & then hence Disposable (preWar Wizard of Oz or KingKong being like actual Fairy Tales - another world altogether)...gripe & grumble...
