Listener comments!

Avatar 3:05pm Sem Chumbo:

Hiya, Irwin. This a pretty thin book, I think, or maybe a matchbook cover masquerading as a book?
Avatar 3:08pm fred:

Good afternoon Irwin and Sem
Speaking of books, I'm rereading the book of the SubGenius, which happens to mention a Chusid
Avatar 3:09pm still b/p:

Did you go to Burning Manuscript in the desert this year?
  3:09pm Listening Out There:

"Guy Monday" does sound like a pseudonym, IMO...
Avatar 3:11pm Sem Chumbo:

Hi, fred.
We are getting quite an overview of the Jack Bruce oeuvre on the station since his death. Fine by me, hearing things of which I knew nothing. Thanks, Irwin, for this addition.
  3:12pm Laura L:

Looking forward to a trip to Scarfolk sometime--bet they don't mind BYOB, bring your own books.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm common:

i'm with you, sem. good to hear this stuff.
  3:15pm oks:

ohhh slim harpo..baby scratch my back ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Mike East:

tame impala is at the Beacon Theater Sunday/Monday I believe...they were giving away tix on the radio this morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Mike East:

enter here: www.thealternateside.org...

don't judge me for listening to the alternate side on occasion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Friends - I have recently enjoyed my 1st exposure to the true inspiration available in The SubGenius Hour of Slack podcast :
...somewhat Hearty-esque or even more Firesign-ish perhaps - but really I should let you experience your own Bobtism for yerself...
  3:33pm Listening Out There:

...the intro to "Premonition" reminds me of "Something in the Air," Thunderclap Newman...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@mikeE: Please inform me (sitting here in nowhere) of as many even slightly interesting Online Streams as you may wish. & - Hello !
@LOT: - & Produced by Pete Townshend of course...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Webhamster Henry:

Hammered dulcimer is in there! Robert Een was in Meredith Monk's chorus... may still be AFAIK.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Michael:

Rev: Many years ago there was a weekly SubGenius hour on WFMU. Early 1980’s I reckon. Still have my Bob mug from the old catalog I had.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Mike East:

@RevRabbit - alternate side is a good place to see what the "cool kids" are listening to these days...though WFMU is for the REALLY cool kids, without quotes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm common:

yay, love!
Avatar 3:43pm V Priceless:

what common said! Hey com...hey Irwin and gang!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Free ArthurLee !
...many the great streams I ignore for the sake of annoying everyone here...
  3:52pm Listening Out There:

Musette Explosion is supposed to be on Fresh Air (NPR) sometime soon...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm common:

hey vp!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Fresh Air podcast link to keep an eye out:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Ĩkє:

Alt Side is not bad, but a bit repetitive at times; Altrok Radio is better for that indie rock sort of thing. However, Alt Side has Alisa A. who has one of the most gorgeous voices in radio, and more live performances if you like that kind of thing. Neither is much like WFMU, which is obviously the queen of all streaming and the best thing since sliced megahertz.
  4:00pm Robert:

Oh, Joe Meek. I thought they were singing, "chow mein".
  4:00pm Laura L:

Nice, this Wreckless Eric.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm i k e:

@Mike East@3:23: No judging here, I do that too. What the hell else can we tune to in NYC 6-9 a.m. when FM is only option (due to, uh, various reasons)? Phil Schaap on WKCR talking for 20 min. about what Charlie Parker ate for breakfast one morning in 1951? No thanks. :)
Avatar 4:04pm Mugsy:

Irwin where did you find that Bob Dylan not unlike rolling stone rap by Tony Seymour? That one stuck with me. Great job as always on the Mighty 'FMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Irwin:

Mugsy: Tony sent it. (He's been sending me lots of stuff.) But I think it's on YT & you can capture the audio.
Avatar 4:06pm Mugsy:

Great thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I *like* 'Birdflight'...*once* a week or so, that is.
Phil knows his stuff. A good balance of actual Jazz *Music* & solid Learnin' I find this to be : itunesu.itunes.apple.com...

...Flawless Playlist so far Mr. I.C. !...
Avatar 4:12pm Sem Chumbo:

Creepy menacing bongos. Boy, how great is that? Mancini didn't miss a thing.
  4:13pm Robert:

I had no idea Mancini was unpopular! They think it's easy to compose orchestral stuff like that?
Swag For Life Member 4:14pm S from I:

Touch of Evil is a bizarre film. Charlton Heston plays a Mexican.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...'PinkPanther' - 'BabyElephantWalk' - c'mon! Done deal...'MoonRiver', right?...
  4:15pm Robert:

Very expressive stuff too. You can almost hear the brass talking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...'PeterGunn' ?? Riffs baby...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Irwin:

Robert: Sorry, I was pullin' whatcha call yer leg.
  4:17pm Dean:

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: "Baby Elephant Walk" mashes up with anything. (I've also said, "I've said it before, and I'll say it again," before, and I'll say it again, too.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Carmichael:

Heya Irwin. A long time ago, I found an original Excello 45 of Harpo's Don't Start Cryin' Now. And I mean "found", like laying in a field or on the sidewalk. In great shape, too.
  4:18pm Laura L:

Sorry to have missed Wreckless Eric at Monty Hall--if you have "Semaphore Signals" around there at WFMU, consider it a request. With or without "Baby Elephant Walk" mashed in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...he *was*, however, notorious for kicking kitties & elder abuse...so it goes...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...impeccably dressed...
  4:25pm Robert:

OK, Dean, I'm trying to mash up Baby Elephant in my head with stuff, and all I've got right now is, "Good girls don't, but I do."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Rich in Washington:

Re: Baby Elephant Walk's mashability: especially the opening vamp. It loops really well. It was my ringtone for longer than I can rmemeber.
  4:28pm Robert:

OK, now I'm mentally mashing Elephant with "Who Owns New York?" (the Columbia U. fight song).
  4:28pm Dean:

I'm humming it right now to Mr. Hancock's tune. Nine out of ten tunes my kids play in the car (usually Kidz Bop, but sometimes the Frozen soundtrack) evoke Mancini like a reflex. I'm telling you, it'll work with Stockhausen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...has been said :
American Psych: Kill Yer Parents !!
British Psych: Mother - is there more Tea - ?!...
  4:37pm V Priceless:

Irwin cookin with oil! Woo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Irwin:

Love this, Mo. Anything else by PD?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Carmichael:

Synthetic handclaps!
Avatar 5:00pm Monica:

no, it was a one off. pressure drop was a studio entity. track was a huge NYC club hit.
Avatar 5:01pm Peteski:

is that the smoke detector?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Carmichael:

Daddy loves his Vogues. You're the One was another great song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Michele:

This is so so good
  5:03pm Robert:

I used to hear a slight accelerando at the end of at least one version of "5:00 World". Was it just my imagination? (Not this time, though.)
  5:05pm Robert:

It's a cheap trick, but something about a subtle accelerando always thrills me. Maybe neuropsychologic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm Irwin:

Mich: I hate that song, but I have to air it because I owe "Bob" Sinatra a lot of money for an airport.
Avatar 5:06pm dale:

thanks for the lost patrol. great band i never heard of before that 'like a H H hurricane' song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Irwin:

Actually I owe "Bob" a lot of money for a LOT of airports.
Avatar 5:07pm Sem Chumbo:

In the next world, Irwin, you are on your own.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm Michele:

Maybe you should just play it on repeat for a whole show and then you guys will be settled up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Irwin:

Paupers drummer: Skip Prokop. Drum clinic!

The Who '5:15' at 5:15?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Hiya Monica !
...didja know there's a new schedule comin' - ?...

- JulianCope's '5 O'Clock' not so bad on the album he wouldn't even call by name afterwords...
Avatar 5:13pm dale:

irwin - you know miss dora hall covered five o'clock world on her 'once upon a tour' album?
Avatar 5:15pm Mugsy:

Thought you were going to say he exploded
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Irwin:

BTW, new sched: I'll still be holding down the 3-6 Weds slot, Joe Frank will also continue alternating weeks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Rich in Washington:

what was the Spinal Tap influence? Just curious.
Once played the 'Trogg Tapes' to some seasoned DJs who'd never heard it and they were rolling on the floor.
Avatar 5:23pm Sem Chumbo:

New sked published on this site somewhere?
Avatar 5:24pm Monica:

hola, rev rab - i've heard tell....
Avatar 5:25pm Sem Chumbo:

Nice to see ya, Ms. M.
5:26pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

We can be rich in silkworms!
  5:26pm Laura L:

Summer summer fruits, it wouldn't be summer without them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm George of Troy:

I thought that was one of those Miss America speeches.
Avatar 5:28pm Monica:

right back at ya, sem chumbo. boy, that chick was dumb as hair.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm chris:

but very concerned, Monica. :-)
  5:34pm Ray:

Excellent CSS track Irwin!
  5:35pm fred:

Avatar 5:37pm Monica:

some children shouldn't be encouraged, chris.
Avatar 5:37pm Sem Chumbo:

@fred: about three and a half bucks, around here.
  5:38pm fred:

but what's a hen weigh?
Avatar 5:39pm andaloudog:

Thanks for the Grace London. New to me, great song.

How much does a hen weigh....

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Carmichael:

Charles y Eddie is Spanish for Charles "and" Eddie. Just wanted to clear up confusion.
Avatar 5:53pm glenn:

mucho gracias.
Avatar 5:53pm Sem Chumbo:

So if Charles is Spanish for Flo, what's Spanish for Eddie?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Irwin:

No comprendo. No hablo espanol.
  5:55pm Fack Checker:

Irwin, if the youtube clip you played was the woman talking about being rich in silkworms and healthy pesticides, then it was not testimony to the SF City Council, but (of course) the Santa Cruz city council (according the the dopey internet).
For the sake of all that's holy, please correct the Accuplaylist!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Rich in Silkworms:

I left for a meeting and returned to realize I missed a band called Big Poo Generator. The wonders never cease.
Avatar 5:55pm northguineahills:

Dern tooting set, Irwin, thanks!
  5:59pm alex poopface:

that aislers set record is actually from 2002, it's just a reissue
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks, Irwin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Irwin:

Thanks, Alex. I was in a coma for most of 2002, missed that album first time around.
