Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

I should have said more about the content of the song. Maybe done some research.

Thanks for listening to this episode of The Dusty Show. I wasn't very prepared for it. It was one of those weeks where I went out to do interviews and I just couldn't find the will. Then I began another show which was to be 60 singles in 60 minutes, but I only got up to 28 minutes and ran out of time. So ... I grabbed some records and headed to the station. I guess that was the idea for SIngles Going Steady anyway, so ... I do feel like I've been flagging a bit during this Silent Fundraiser, and frankly lots has been goin' on. How about you? I hope to get some good shows in ahead, but I'm worried about how I'm going to pull anything worthwhile together for Halloween. We'll see. I do hope that if you listen regularly and you generally like the program that you'll make a pledge right here and now for The Dusty Show and WFMU. I'd sure like to get closer to that goal and save face. I bet you will come through. If you can't, don't worry. Keep listening and ... always remember. Jack Bruce

  6:02pm Gee Lampa:

What on earth were they thinking, not leaving all vocals to TODD?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02pm Marcel M:

Whats up Clay and Dusties?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm SeanG:

yeah dude
Avatar 6:03pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Nuggets Todd.
Avatar 6:03pm V Priceless:

Hi Clay! Great Nazz cut!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Fuzzy:

This is the stuff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm dale:

is this boyce and hart pre or post monkees?
Avatar 6:04pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- better than the Monkees version.
Avatar 6:05pm TDK60:

Maybe this is the first time I've typed text on Clay's show.
Avatar 6:05pm Sem Chumbo:

Hiya, Clay. Proto Monkee music, simian wannabe approved.
  6:06pm Baay_faux:

Good evening from Kaolack, Senegal, y'all.
  6:06pm Gee Lampa:

I love todd, and his 70's output destroys Lennon's, but John made short work out of Todd when TR deigned to talk trash.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm cory:

dale, the Boyce & Hart is released by the Monkees first
Avatar 6:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...in there w/ the BeeGees 1st album - that Post-'Revolver' PsychPopBubblegum...
  6:07pm Slick Goldtooth:

Can you believe it's been exactly 1 day short of 9 years since your 4th episode?
  6:08pm Gee Lampa:

Todd stumbled into a minefield when he suggested Nazz had a creative upper hand over the Beatles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm Rich in Washington:

I think if your hard goes bang shang-a-lang, you'd best be seeing a cardiologist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Rich in Washington:

Avatar 6:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Lennon was a ♎Libra, but his ☿Mercury was in ♏Scorpio ; a Past Master @ verbal laceration...
  6:09pm Gee Lampa:

Sounds like something the Brady Bunch might deliver.
Avatar 6:09pm TDK60:

But Todd And the Fab 4 were "apples and oranges" anyway, eh?
Avatar 6:10pm Cecile:

he had to talk tough. Nazz kicked him out, didn't they?
Avatar 6:11pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...John also said he was about to compliment Todd before it went down like that - & I'd bet John was insecure about dropping out of the Pop Charts, underneath it all...
Avatar 6:11pm Sem Chumbo:

Hank Snow sound alike, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm latenightlistener:

Great stuff
  6:11pm Gee Lampa:

@Revolution It started with John calling him "Turd Runtgreen", and proceeded to scald. Todd was all appy-polly-lojjies after that.
  6:12pm Gee Lampa:

@ Cecile I highly doubt it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm dale:

i know they were their own thing pre-monkees, and after the monkees did an album with mickey and davey, dolenz jones boyce and hart. saw them on mike douglas, can't remember the tune.
  6:14pm Gee Lampa:

@Cecile there is no post-Todd Nazz, to my knowledge.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm dale:

poor old judd...love this.

Avatar 6:17pm Sem Chumbo:

"We're running out of ice" hahaha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm dale:

with cindy williams and john byner, no less!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Marcel M:

OOOooOOOoooOOO Nazareth, cool!
Avatar 6:18pm Cecile:

Nearly all of Todd's material was cut from Nazz Nazz, and then he left. The third Nazz album was released with old stuff with Todd's vocs replaced by Stewkey's.
  6:18pm V Priceless:

Slade roolz!
  6:19pm Gee Lampa:

The Slade's not doing much to loosen my purse strings, Clay!!
Avatar 6:19pm Cecile:

Avatar 6:19pm MenfussMike:

isnt this quiet riot?
Avatar 6:20pm ironybread:

Speaking from experience, sixth graders in 1984 thought Slade was a new band and their version of “Cum On Feel the Noize” was a cover of a Quiet Riot song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm Fuzzy:

Turd Runtgreen=Comedy GOLD
Avatar 6:20pm TDK60:

Was Slade the first band to wear platform shoes?
Avatar 6:20pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Slade - among the Great Bands Huge in UK - merely underground in U.S. (Suede's another)
...this is nothing to Slade's great 70s stuff.
Avatar 6:20pm BEAVO:

Todd never left, the band broke up. Stewkey was always the lead singer
  6:20pm Gee Lampa:

@Cecile Well, that was silly of them! I always thought he was on there, just not singing.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm Marcel M:

I could see this being our Dave Hill...
  6:21pm Gee Lampa:

@BEAVO Ah HAH!!! Vindicated.
Avatar 6:22pm steve:

electro! nice one Clay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm Andrew Waterloo:

I just remember thinking Run Run Away was a Great Big Sea Song.
  6:23pm Gee Lampa:

Aww @Steve, you know that's "freestyle"!!
Avatar 6:23pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'19' is a record that made it's point - for a few people - & it stuck.
Avatar 6:23pm steve:

i commented before the synths kicked in Gee!
Avatar 6:24pm BEAVO:

Todd's voice was very thin back then, he had to develop it, he said he hated it. he sounded "like a chick"
Avatar 6:25pm BEAVO:

Compare Runt to AWATS.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm SeanG:

wind me up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm Fuzzy:

Subic Bay flashback!
  6:26pm Ray:

I recently heard this song at a break during The Price is Right. Awesome song. That was the first time I heard about PTSD.
  6:26pm iris:

Oh lord!! Haven't heard this in a minute!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm latenightlistener:

Great songs so far!
  6:28pm Gee Lampa:

@Beavo but I thought he was shooting for that Laura Nyro sound! ;) anyway, "Todd" is my favorite.
  6:28pm iris:

The original Price is Right music is awesome!
  6:28pm Gee Lampa:

Fab is the "Sir Nose Devoidafunk" for the new millennium.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Marcel M:

Hhahahah gotta love Fab
  6:29pm iris:

Did Fab say "Crapwork"?
Avatar 6:29pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Nazz were a pretty fierce Post-Wh♂ & Cream band w/ some Mamas&Papas Vocal Arrangement skills. Good records. The mix on their version 'Hello It's Me' is kinda wrong ; the vocal levels aren't quite right...dunno if Todd had his SuperProducer skills yet...

...This is just Post-Disco Dancey Synth w/ a tiny bit of Pop Smarts...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Marcel M:

Star fucker?
Avatar 6:30pm ironybread:

I badly need an FMU DJ to do an all-Flyte Tyme set.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Marcel M:

I don't think thats cheating Dale, extra points maybe even
  6:34pm Ray:

Nice pick Clay! Love this song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm dale:

pure energy
Avatar 6:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- not expecting LauraNyro to be easy to work w/ - not effecting measure of her artistic merit whatsoever ; Todd & XTC clashed - & made a great album ; I think (??) the Dolls thot Todd kinda superfluous (??) - but again - got the job done on wunna the most crucial albums ever...
  6:35pm Gee Lampa:

Nice woody snares.
  6:35pm Gee Lampa:

  6:35pm ScottC:

Christ! my hair just turned pink and chartreuse and looks like ham feathers...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Marcel M:

  6:36pm ScottC:

Avatar 6:36pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'Balloon Farm' a Dylan quip about some NYC scene - ??...
  6:37pm Gee Lampa:

Clay, are you laying on a cot, face down and legs crossed, with bunny slippers and curlers, rifling through these 45's?
  6:38pm Slanzy:

Wow I always thought this was an original Lords Of the New Church song...hmmm. This is great!, the Lords version was great also!. Great show today!.
  6:39pm s Fla Bill:

? of temp. Thee best.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm dale:

i used to love deejaying my vinyl to my wife when we first started dating. records all over the floor and a lot of air guitar and giggling. some alcohol was involved, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Mutant:

I don't like how this kid says "hands"
Avatar 6:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@Slanzy: ...everyone should be given the Nuggets boxed set by the Government...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm latenightlistener:

I hope it ISN'T child
Avatar 6:40pm BEAVO:

No Clay I don't remember this version.
  6:40pm Gee Lampa:

That musical transition may have just ripped a hole in the thin cheesecloth of rational thought.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Rich in Washington:

That's a HE? I grew up thinking that was a chick singing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Mutant:

Avatar 6:41pm BEAVO:

Please don"t
Avatar 6:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...is he following Mahalia Jackson's example of this song ? Does she sing 'haunds' ??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm dale:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Marcel M:

He said you had some snow on your head Dale no big deal.
  6:47pm Mike Van Laar:

Hi Clay! I'm an only child but luckily my dad shared his Black Sabbath and Beatles records with me so I was in relatively good hands.
Avatar 6:47pm BEAVO:

Neil youn did his own version of Surfer Joe

  6:48pm Gummy Ted:

My brother really started building a collection after he was done in Vietnam in 68/69. The ones I remember playing the hell out of when he shared part of his collection with me was Sweet Baby James and At Filmore East.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm cory:

when I was 8 or so my big brother (Happy Birthday Shane!!) gave me two cassette tapes that changed my taste in music for the better. Beastie Boys License to Ill and Run-DMC's King of Rock. The rest of his music was 80's hairspray and spandex crap.
  6:52pm Huh:

If you want to make Tommy James as it were mad tell his music is bubble gun he'll come down from his hill in Cedar Grove and kick your ass
