Hi Irene, hello one and all
Avatar 12:14pm kat330:

Hello, Irene! And hi, Sean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Caryn:

Hello all!
Avatar 12:15pm kat330:

Ha, we reversed our greeting words, Sean.
Avatar 12:15pm kat330:

Awww, nice Nica.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Hey Kat, you have a pledge heart, nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Yeah, nice photo of Nica, looking forward to the live set from Peter
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm common:

cute kitty!
Avatar 12:17pm kat330:

@Sean: It took a few days doing, but yes finally! Hey, you wrote me you "finally got to see me" at, I guess, my Tumblr (since not at SC), but several pics are attached *right here* on my FMU Profile and have been for ages. Click the "Cabbit" and ck. it out. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Caryn:

Nica looks rather temperamental. WFMU's very own Grumpy Cat. Maybe Nica is just upset that the pledge total is not higher.
  12:19pm Bubba:

Saw Bob Dylan in Seattle at the Paramount last night. How about some Bob for my Seattle morning? Always a pleasure to begin Monday with Irene!:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Nice Sixties vibe going here.
Avatar 12:22pm kat330:

Certainly taking me back to some fine times.
Avatar 12:23pm kat330:

Oh, and THIS Love is Philo's fave song ever (just about). It was featured prominently on the first mix tape he sent me.
Avatar 12:23pm d¢ pät:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm common:

my favorite love song! thanks irene
Avatar 12:24pm Sem Chumbo:

OK,I thought the flashbacks had finally abated. Hearing the opening,I went looking for my beaded headband, and looking into a mirror, I discover I no longer need it:-(.
Afternoon, Irene, hello all, hiya, kat.

Sem, my friend, hallo!

Great set as usual, you are the best
Listen regularly from San Francisco
Many thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Everybody! This week, to celebrate another great aspect of WFMU during our Silent Fundraiser, it's "Singles Going Steady Week!" We're playing singles from our collections and otherwise. I'm also setting up for live music with Peter Biedermann, like a crazy person.
Avatar 12:30pm kat330:

Harpsichord! And moi, Caryn! We just hosted a fellow countryman of yours recently, my bro-in-law, Kari. Philo needs to edit out some of these (he hasn't had time), but here's a Flickr link to his visit: tinyurl.com...
  12:32pm qwerty:

my love don't care about lifting classical melodies
Avatar 12:32pm Roberto:

Irene always PWNS Singles Going Steady. The kittehs don't hurt either.
Avatar 12:32pm KP:

Wow. Thanks, Irene!
Avatar 12:33pm kat330:

@qwerty: Yeah, I caught that, too.
Avatar 12:34pm KP:

It means PLEDGE! Irene needs you!
Avatar 12:34pm kat330:

Did and done, KP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Caryn:

Nice, kat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Sean in Bristol UK:

@Kat, great photos, without me having to look at a map what is the name of the river, it looks a big piece of water.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Agree, KP, let's try and get the dog wagging his/her's tail
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Caryn:

The bridge looked very familiar.
Avatar 12:36pm kat330:

@Caryn: Kiitos! Kari is Philo's "little brother" heh!
@Sean: Thanks! It's the mighty Ohio, a wide and poisonous river separating Knob Knee from the Land of Lullville, where the grass is blue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Sean in Bristol UK:

That is a big river, if memory serves, Cincinatti, Indainapolis and St Loius are on this mighty tributary
Avatar 12:39pm kat330:

Yeah, we'll probably get the cat T-shirt, but I really like the dog one's design.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Man, I love this track.
Avatar 12:41pm d¢ pät:

oh man, NOW we're talking. The Who are ALWAYS welcome....(before 1973...)
Avatar 12:42pm kat330:

@Sean: One out of 3 is not bad for a furriner! Just Cincy from that group. But Pittsburgh is the beginning city.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm YETI BOB:

Entwhistle on English Horn!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Sean in Bristol UK:

@Kat, close, the two I got wrong, what rivers do they have?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm doctorjazz:

So, you said you're not playing all vinyl...is any of the tracks 45 RPM? Some sound much better than the others to my ears...but I've been delusional before!
Avatar 12:44pm kat330:

Indianapolis is smack-dab in the middle of the state and is on a much smaller waterway called the White River. St. Louis is on the Mississippi.
Avatar 12:45pm kat330:

Love Laura!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Caryn:

Man, I love this song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm DCE:

and man, I love THIS song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Irene Trudel:

Well DoctorJazz, you caught me! The opening 5 tracks were off my itunes. I needed a little time to set up for my live guest. The rest are gool ol' scratchy 45s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Caryn:

With every song, it's becoming increasingly likely that I'd better star the whole show, because starring every good song would be too much of a hassle.
  12:50pm Santos L Halper:

Hi Irene. Had to chime in for Melanie; great track. Was this one of the ones produced by R Fripp?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm DCE:

I don't think I've ever heard a Melanie record that wasn't completely scratched up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm DCE:

oh gorgeous...
Avatar 12:52pm kat330:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Sean in Bristol UK:

The nights are starting to draw in over here, thank goodness for this show to keep spirits up.
Avatar 12:53pm Sem Chumbo:

Going steady, hehehe. Oh, brother this set has been just a shock-absorber-less ride down memory lane. And now Joni. Have mercy, irene, I lived it all a million times, I gotta live it AGAIN;-P
Avatar 12:53pm kat330:

I do think the Tom Rush cover is superior, but man, what a beautiful basis to build from!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm DCE:

I grew up on the Tom Rush version myself. He had a more languid pace which fit the song well. Master interpreter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm the Master:

On which Joni record can I find this song?
Avatar 12:56pm Van in DC:

Hi there Irene and everyone.
Avatar 12:57pm kat330:

Now that ended with a very languid, um, quavering pace.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Sean in Bristol UK:

@The Master, I went into ITunes and the album "Hits" came up,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Hey Van, thanks for the link for the magazine.
Avatar 12:58pm kat330:

Irene, it's like you've raided my vinyl collection! :)
Avatar 12:58pm Van in DC:

Hope it helps Sean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm doctorjazz:

I actually think the scratchy vinyl comes across sounding better overall (don't mind the crackles, more presence)
Avatar 1:00pm Van in DC:

I guess we Pledge for Life folks don't get a heart automatically.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Lindisfarne, fab!
  1:01pm the Canterbury wood-elf:

Lindisfarne on scratchy old vinyl, no less. Thanks, Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Caryn:

@Van: you get it when the annual pledge is renewed (usually at Marathon time), but it goes away when the next fundraising round comes around, like other hearts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Mike East:

No, Van - you gotta pledge more this month if you want a heart (and if you want fmu to survive and prosper)...something I plan on doing this week now that I've paid a few big bills I was waiting to get outta the way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Brian in UK:

Lindisfarne not the same since the sad demise of Alan Hull. Great songwriter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm the Master:

Thank you, Sean!
Avatar 1:06pm Van in DC:

Okay well we can't be having no heart.
Avatar 1:08pm kat330:

@the Master: I'm with you on the Karen Carpenter fandom.
Avatar 1:08pm d¢ pät:

@Van: that's what got me going...
Avatar 1:10pm Van in DC:

Okay, I like when problems are solved
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Caryn:

That was fast, Van. Sometimes those hearts take their sweet time to show up after a pledge.
Avatar 1:11pm Van in DC:

I guess the queue was sadly low ahead of me
Avatar 1:12pm kat330:

@Caryn: After 3 days of Philo's not showing up, it finally had to be added manually. So yeah, Van, you're among the blessed here.
  1:12pm the Canterbury wood-elf:

PB sounding rather Gong-like...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Caryn:

@kat: hmm, I wonder if it varies by payment method...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Sean in Bristol UK:

@Caryn, I not that good on 'techy' things, do have to enable your "heart' on your WFMU profile?
Avatar 1:14pm kat330:

@Caryn: No, it was just some weird anomaly. We've had a lot of those over the years. Van is blessed, but we're usually in the doghouse, even as cat fans. ;)
Avatar 1:14pm Van in DC:

That could be. I always pay in full immediately rather than future pledge
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm DCE:

'dis cool
Avatar 1:15pm Van in DC:

That was nice
Avatar 1:15pm d¢ pät:

I got the heart but FMU didn't get my dough yet. There was some sort of Paypal snafu. Engaging McGasko about it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Caryn:

@Sean: nope, but I suppose if a heart isn't showing up when it should, it's always good to check that the "don't display heart" box isn't ticked on one's profile.
Avatar 1:15pm kat330:

@Van: No, the pledge was done perfectly and normally and, no, it is nothing that must be activated on one's profile. We were told it sometimes is delayed waiting to be "imported." But I don't think it would ever have shown on Philo's if Joe hadn't gone in manually.
Avatar 1:16pm Van in DC:

Well the good thing is FMU has all our hearts
Avatar 1:16pm kat330:

But IAE, I've pledged twice already since the snafu was fixed, and those have gone without a hitch. [knocking on wood]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Caryn:

I'll have to see how my heart appears once I pledge next week.
Avatar 1:19pm kat330:

@Caryn: I'm sure you'll have no problem seeing it immediately. Like I said, Philo and I seem to be truly "freeform" as the exceptions to the FMU rule in all cases. :)
Swag For Life Member 1:19pm 12539:

(Peter sounding good!)
Avatar 1:20pm Van in DC:

Sean - KaTe just won an award (1st of ...?) www.musicweek.com...
Avatar 1:20pm kat330:

Yes, this is quite soothing and nice. I'm pretending its title is dedicated to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Caryn:

Let's say it's for both of us, kat.
Avatar 1:22pm kat330:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Thanks Van, absolutely well deserved and a venue in Bristol won an award, I saw John Martyn there,
  1:27pm JoannaAZ:

Hi Irene ~
Please let Mr. B know the kitty and I are enjoying the show here in AZ.
Avatar 1:29pm kat330:

Painted Desert soundscape ... O'Keefe of the chords.
Avatar 1:29pm Van in DC:

I hear the "Q" awards are Wednesday....
Avatar 1:31pm kat330:

Awwww... I had a big orange kitty, too, for 18 years -- Keats.
Avatar 1:38pm Sem Chumbo:

Mr. Biedermann is making some big fans here north of the border, not least my calico Nunavut cat, Adora.
Avatar 1:40pm Van in DC:

Yeah that first track...I was going to say it would be perfect to accompany the new Hirshhorn museum "Travel" exhibit. It's about a 12 minute HD video/audio of nature compiled over 17 years. It's amazing. "Days of Endless Time" is the full exhibit.

Avatar 1:43pm drewo:

Good morning from sunny Arizona. Great to hear my neighbor from just-south of me on the radio! He's correct about how wonderful life in AZ can be—just keep it a secret for WFMU listeners only.
Avatar 1:43pm kat330:

@Sem: Surprised you aren't owned by a Maine coon.
Avatar 1:45pm Sem Chumbo:

@kat: have had as many of five at once, and one surely was a Maine coon cat, hands down the smartest cat I have ever known. I am holding my hands over Adora's ears as I voice-type this. Cats are SO sensitive *l*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Hey Drewo, already for tomorrow night?
Avatar 1:48pm kat330:

@Sem: Very wise of you!
Avatar 1:48pm drewo:

Hey Sean! Yes, it should be a fun one. Feeling privileged these last 5 years with all of these WS appearances. (All Lorde music has been banned from the house for the next 10 days).

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm Irene Trudel:

This is the first thing I heard by KaTe!
Avatar 2:31pm kat330:

Not to beat around the Bush, but what *is* the significance of capitalizing the "T" in Kate?
Avatar 2:32pm Van in DC:

KT = Kate :) my avatar...the KT Bush Band. KaTe had this as a patch on her uniform in one of her videos as well. It's also a hidden easter egg on most if not all her album covers
Avatar 2:32pm kat330:

Mmmm... yes. Believe I've said before this song saw me through some very dark times.
Avatar 2:32pm Van in DC:

Even more Peter & KaTe! Voice of an angel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Oh man, wow, thank you Irene, this set is a thing of pure joy.
Avatar 2:34pm kat330:

@Van: Ahhh, OK, thanks! I'm not very knowledgeable about Kate. I never owned an album, but do have Aerial from Philo downloading and, of course, know her radio "hits" as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Caryn:

On the Kate Bush documentary, it was interesting to hear Elton John explain how this song helped him get sober.
Avatar 2:35pm Van in DC:

YES! Elton gave her very high praise indeed.
Avatar 2:36pm Van in DC:

Anyone wanting to watch said documentary from the BBC, it's here

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm Irene Trudel:

I never knew that Van! Now it all makes sense. Thanks for pointing out the avatar.
  2:37pm Santos L Halper:

Believe it or don't, Don't Give Up was used to great effect in an episode of Miami Vice (!)
Avatar 2:38pm Van in DC:

Army Dreamers...here's a fan art of KaTe with uniform and the KT patch just barely showing on left arm

Avatar 2:38pm Van in DC:

Miami Vice had, I think, several of her songs through the years. Always stunned me when I heard them
  2:39pm thank you irene:

caryn--i have been thinking about that moment in the documentary all week
irene--getting a bit personal here, i've had an excruciatingly difficult week, maybe the hardest in my life, and i needed to hear that song real bad. much love from a big fan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm Irene Trudel:

You're welcome, big fan! Happy to put you (and everybody) in a better musical place.
Avatar 2:40pm kat330:

@Santos L. Halper: An episode w/ Phil Collins in it?
Avatar 2:43pm kat330:

@Van: Thanks for all your edifiKaTion, links and all. Technically though, I believe "Don't Give Up" is written solely by Gabriel w/ Kate doing vocals.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm common:

idaho! haven't heard them forever!
  2:44pm Santos L Halper:

@kat: no, the one where Sonny gets amnesia and becomes a drug runner. The song comes right when he comes back to the light (pastel) side. I get misty just thinking about it : D
  2:44pm ScottC:

Love me some Idaho! What album is this from? I thought I had them all
Avatar 2:44pm Van in DC:

I think you are correct on that kat. I don't think KaTe contributed lyrically to any of her collaborations that I am aware of...
Avatar 2:45pm kat330:

Clearly she was sought after for collabs for good reason.
Avatar 2:47pm Van in DC:

Yep, On Stage was recorded live from the Hammersmith Odeon in 1979 during KaTe's Tour of Life... where she just had 22 shows at the renamed venue now known as Eventim Apollo...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm Caryn:

@Van: that fan art is Kate in her "Army Dreamers" outfit, right?
Avatar 2:48pm Van in DC:

That is correct Caryn :)
Avatar 2:49pm KP:

Won't take much to get Irene to 50%. PLEDGE NOW!

So, here is a list of where the KT symbols are on KaTe's various albums that have it as an easter egg:

  1:57pm kat330:

@Van in DC on 10/20/14 2:36pm: Thanks a bunch for that youtube documentary link, Van. Just finished watching it and feel now I have a far better understanding of Ms. Bush and her music over the years.
