Options October 18, 2014: I think Zzzzzzero Hour needs a mascot!

So we’re more than half way through our October Silent Fundraiser. We’re offering several enticements to nudge you into parting with a paltry amount of your hard earned $$$. First of these is that making a pledge of any amount allows you to enter your pet into WFMUs first ever mascot contest. Snap a pic of your favorite mammal or that toadstool whose shape you’ve become particularly fond of, and post it along with your pledge. I further propose a mascot contest for the Zzzzzzero Hour program. Pledge to MY show and I’ll put your animals/plants in the running to be the symbol of this program. Don't forget pledges of 50 dollars gets you the FMU Under(water) Dog or Illuminati Cat T-shirt.

Morning Bill! A grey and foggy morning over here. Coffee brewing as we speak. Breakfast today is Hungarian smoked ham, tilset cheese and croissants.
Avatar 3:10am Sem Chumbo:

Good morning, Bill. Hiya, P-90, and hello Andy...Hungarian smoked ham? Very nice, and w/tilset besides. Booking a flight to Berlin asap.

  3:18am rw:

That Brown Rain song was crazy.
Avatar 3:20am Bill Mac:

Hey folks, tea and nanner so far, nothing fancy... Yeah, Victor Brady, i kind of remember playing this steel drum psych thing before, but apparently it's new. How you all doing?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22am Guido from Cologne:

oooh ... is this the saturDon already?
  3:23am P-90:

"Brown Rain" is growing on me too. But it does sound like the idea reembles something that came out a long time ago, doesn't it, @Bill Mac?
  3:24am P-90:

"resembles". And "reembles"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24am Guido from Cologne:

"Brown Rain" = star-click

Dick Burton!
Avatar 3:30am Brian in UK:

Morning Bill 'n folks.
I got Spencer on the walk yesterday.
Avatar 3:31am Sem Chumbo:

Apple pressing day at the community garden today. We have a hand-operated German cider press and invite, every year, local folks to bring their own apples and containers, and we spend the day outside making cider.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- yeah - RichardB reminds me of 'War of the Worlds'

Avatar 3:34am Brian in UK:

Avatar 3:35am Brian in UK:

@Sem sounds wonderful, came back from Herefordshire recently as you know and it is full on down there with apples and pears.
Avatar 3:35am Bill Mac:

Can you have them together?
Avatar 3:36am Brian in UK:

It wouls be a bluddy miracle especially as they are the same colour.
  3:36am Martyn:

Good morning Bill and all.

Its great to see Ratty on this hallowed page. Much loved in our house and clearly not a dog.
  3:37am P-90:

@Brian: Thanks for the Dick Heads-up! I will be checking that out!
Avatar 3:39am Brian in UK:

Ofcourse Robert Fripp nicked the opening line from Under Milkwood, namely Starless & Bible Black.
Avatar 3:39am Bill Mac:

@Martyn - Ratty is barely mammal! I would imagine s/he's easily maintained and doesn't make much noise either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

RichardB & DylanT - two of our notable ♏Scorpio Club members...(the bar is much frequented, of course)...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42am Stanley:

...bit like me.
Morning everyone.
Avatar 3:42am Brian in UK:

Bill, imagine if we (the listeners) made up a group photograph like Sgt Pepper.
Which reminds me, Peter Blake who designed that cover is a huge fan of Under Milkwood, plays it at least once a week.
Avatar 3:43am Bill Mac:

@Brian would be good.... and I could be photoshopped onto a cross! morning Stanley!
Avatar 3:43am Sem Chumbo:

Hello, Stanley.
@Brian: crackerjack idea.
  3:43am Martyn:

@Bill - He, isn't it obvious?. Very easily maintained yes, and spends much of his life at sea on the principle that since rats are the first to leave a sinking ship, as long as he's there the ship isn't sinking.
Avatar 3:44am Brian in UK:

Hello Martyn, nice to 'see' you.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44am Stanley:

...or Were Only in it for the Money stylee
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44am Stanley:

  3:44am Martyn:

Hello Brian. Where's Spencer?
Avatar 3:45am Brian in UK:

Martyn could he sing a few chanteys?
Avatar 3:45am Brian in UK:

Martyn @3:30 link.
Avatar 3:45am Sem Chumbo:

Sure, "Only In it" looks like it was collaged with a dull hatchet. More Zzzzzzero Hour style, somehow.
  3:46am P-90:

@RR: That's right! Burton famously (Liz was a Pisces, they had THAT thing going). I forgot Dylan too....
  3:46am Martyn:

@Brian - ah yes, saw the picture, didn't read the words. Handsome chap.
Avatar 3:46am Bill Mac:

Spencer is now on the Zzzzzzero Hour's Mascot Wall of Shame.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- geez Brian ; have to do one for each Program practically ! Crackerjack indeed...; I often wish there were Yearbook style commemorations (do they do High School Yearbook type things in Blighty??) for various Scenes in Life - as High School itself wasn't much to me...

- All sounds excellent Mr.Mac...
Avatar 3:49am Sem Chumbo:

@Why so diffident, Brian? I remember a time when you wouldn't go anywhere without a little black dress.
Avatar 3:50am Brian in UK:

@RR not in my day but they never had Proms then and now they are ubiquitous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51am Stanley:

Ha ha! Brian, just wear your bath robe.
Avatar 3:51am Brian in UK:

Is anything worn under the kilt?

No, it's all in perfect working order.
  3:52am P-90:

You know what they say, there's always room for Jello. And Trout Mask.
  3:57am P-90:

During the Bob Crewe Generation days, Bob used to favor staccato, fuzzy guitar lines like the one in "Brown Rain." there may be a scene in "Barbarella" that has a very similar riff on the soundtrack.

Sitting at my desk a few hours in the past here.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08am Stanley:

RRN63 get your head down mate and see you later.
  4:08am P-90:

We generically call that particular fizzy fuzz sound a "Fuzz Face" tone, after a popular pedal that gave that effect. As opposed to the "Big Muff", Distortion Plus", "Tube Screamer", and other categories of fuzz tone that you could get with many devices, but tend to be named after a particular popular pedal for shorthand. And Crewe specified that tone for a LOT of his arrangements for a few years, it had that groovy, swingin', "now" sound to his ears, I guess.
  4:09am rw:

Good night RRN63! Hope you're able to get some sleep.

Avatar 4:51am Brian in UK:

Well done Jay, got to be worth it.
Avatar 4:52am Sem Chumbo:

@Jay/London: of all the things friends have tried to quit, it is my experience that the trials of nicotine withdrawal are the worst, bar none. Good on you.
Avatar 4:56am Andy in Berlin:

@ Jay - it may seem hard now but it's totally do-able. I know way more people that did it than who couldn't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59am Stanley:

I gotta get a pet before next week.
Avatar 5:00am Jay/London:

Thanks all !!! First time i went to the pub last night, that was hard. its just changing how i do things each day
Avatar 5:01am Jay/London:

Avatar 5:01am Sem Chumbo:

@Stanley: I have a few vintage rocks from which you may choose.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02am Stanley:

...I feel so, so left out..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03am Stanley:

I'll probably settle for a rock or a stuffed toy.
Avatar 5:08am Bill Mac:

@Stanley don't you have a picture of an imaginary friends or something? Does anybody have an underdeveloped twin attached to their neck?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12am Stanley:

I've got plenty of them. It'll have to be group photo so I don't offend any of them. But rounding them up, that'll be the problem.
Avatar 5:12am Sem Chumbo:

Only, as far as I know, Zaphod Beeblebrox. Maybe not so underdeveloped, now that I think about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14am Stanley:
