Quick question : how come do we say "holy crap" and never "blessed poo"?
Avatar 3:35pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Seriously. That clicky-star won't be getting up from THAT click for weeks.
Avatar 3:36pm Kurt Gottschalk:

scott williams got the skilliams to pay the billiams
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Matt from Springfield:

@RTD: It's the transition into autumn doing it, the "Urge for Going".
"When the meadow grass is turning brown
And all her empire's falling down"...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Matt from Springfield:

@pierre: Perhaps it is meant as the "holy crap" from a "sacred cow"... :)

I myself like to write it out as "wholly crap", it's fun!
Avatar 3:39pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Blessed poo!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Matt from Springfield:

"Thumpasauri" ???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Matt from Springfield:

Rüdiger Lorenz--Therese just played him, great pieces of 80s electronica!
Avatar 4:08pm Sem Chumbo:

Avatar 4:13pm Sem Chumbo:

Avatar 4:14pm Sem Chumbo:

@ βrian: perhaps I should get the lead out of it.
  4:14pm jeff g.:

Bryars, faved.
Avatar 4:15pm still b/p:

It might've been fine if they'd just played this throughout the whole Cameron movie, without any of the mostly bad dialogue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Matt from Springfield:

All is okay, and in fact I could even call all wonderful!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm DCE:

I've still never seen the movie, but I agree wholeheartedly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Greg from Bloomfield:

This is helping me be less stressy!
  4:16pm bloopy:

oh hey scott. forgot to say hello. love your work
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Davis:

what happens in it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Matt from Springfield:

@Sem/βrian: Oh dear Lord, interlingual plays on words!! :)
Avatar 4:16pm Sem Chumbo:

@the Matt:-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Scott Williams:

Ahoy Greg, it's the ultimate stressy stopper plug
Avatar 4:17pm Sem Chumbo:

That word was on the tip of my tongue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Matt from Springfield:

How can you be stressed with British voice snippets coming in through music! :)
Avatar 4:18pm still b/p:

People say stupid things, and an iceberg counters.
Avatar 4:18pm βrian:

Who's in the lead?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Davis:

fair enough
Avatar 4:19pm Cecile:

The Cameron movie, even though I haven't seen it would be improved by this music, no dialog, and a robot from the future warning them about the consequences of their actions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Matt from Springfield:

More importantly, who played the iceberg?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Greg from Bloomfield:

It's pretty fucking terrible, but you should at least watch from "Iceberg, right ahead!" to the end. The sinking part is great, mostly because everybody stops talking.
Avatar 4:20pm Sem Chumbo:

Huddie Ledbetter, the Lead Belly.
Avatar 4:20pm βrian:

I meant to say "unthinkable," my captain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Matt from Springfield:

@Greg LOL! :D

@Cecile: Good observation, several of Cameron's movies in fact would be improved by removing dialogue and miming to beautiful orchestral score music.
Avatar 4:21pm Sem Chumbo:

A strong, silent type whose emotion were 9/10th submerged, Matt.
Avatar 4:21pm Cecile:

Ice-T would play the iceberg. Of course!
Avatar 4:21pm Cecile:

@matt from springfield, and robots!
Avatar 4:22pm Sem Chumbo:

Are Ice-T and Mr. T related? Or is he related to Mr. Coffee?
  4:22pm r i s k y:

Damnit Scott, ya got me all misty.
I want to fill my tub with ice water and listen to this with headphones on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Matt from Springfield:

@Cecile: Now that's something I can get behind! The next remake should feature Ice-T as the iceberg, robots of the Lost In Space variety, and be directed by Michael Bay.
Avatar 4:23pm steve:

my god, i need to come to terms with things in my life
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Matt from Springfield:

@Sem: Ice-T is probably the summer-minded cousin of Mr. Coffee. They make a brewer for it, too.
Avatar 4:24pm still b/p:

And they're proud to have a doctor in the family....Dr. T, with the 5000 fingers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Matt from Springfield:

@Sem 4:21: Heh, quite true! :)

Although the iceberg in the '97 Titantic gave the best performance in the whole film--devastating, even. That was Jacob B. Iceberg, who I just found out is the nephew of Jack Icemount (birth name of Isaac K. Iceberg), who played the iceberg back in "The Sinking of the Titantic"... :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Lewis:

is this from the OST?
Avatar 4:28pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I'll be gavin what he's gavin.
Avatar 4:29pm Sem Chumbo:

@the Matt: hahaha.
Avatar 4:29pm Cecile:

hahahahaha matt
Avatar 4:30pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

The other sibling, Iceberg Slim, took a different career path, but one no less cinematic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Scott Williams:

@lewis, this is not - this is from '75
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Stanley:

Some background info I found:
Avatar 4:34pm still b/p:

Before the berg finally showed up to gash the cast's hash, my girlfriend at the time kept leaning closer to me during the lengthy silliness to chant-whisper,"Sink - the - ship! Sink -the - ship!"
Avatar 4:34pm βrian:

And the w'pedia: en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Matt from Springfield:

Amazing Stanley, thanks for that info!
Quite a story to this, and nice that I didn't have to wait until Bethany for a rich, methaphorical modern orchestra piece!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Lewis:

thx Scott
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Matt from Springfield:

And THIS! Bruner's sounding like Janis Ian!
Avatar 4:37pm V Priceless:

Gavin Bryars simple musical score looped to a street recording of an elderly homeless man's perfect-pitch acapella rendition of "Jesus Blood Never Failed Me" is particularly touching.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Davis:

bit long though
Avatar 4:39pm βrian:

Love is short, forgetting long.
Avatar 4:39pm still b/p:

I thought I mighta mentioned the "Sink - the -ship!" in a comment before; I checked, and instead of "lengthy silliness," I referred to it earlier as "long lame folderol," which applies all over the damn place in this damn world!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm common:

folderol! great, b/p!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Davis:

i suppose the 70s lps ok but the later cd version with tom waits buggering it up at the end is a bit long,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Carmichael:

OK, fer CHrissakes, I finally kicked my way through luncheon traffic to arrive at my place of being. Hello Scott and the William-Aires.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Matt from Springfield:

Avatar 4:48pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I love you Carmichael. Yes, Yes, yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Carmichael:

@UM: I had you at "Debby" ....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Matt from Springfield:

Hey! Just discovered this "Genre Finder" WFMU has. A grid of many different "genres" possible in music, and clicking on one will show whomever tends to play music in that range of sound:
Avatar 5:24pm still b/p:

I posted a link at the end of Liz's show regarding sound-making with likembe-typewriter hybrids, which could lead to Debby Does Disorientation.
  5:25pm mick:

@Cecile: And I can't find Irwin anywhere, I suspect he intentionally removed himself ;)

Avatar 5:39pm Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Scott Williams:

Oh, you know what, I think we djs have to go into some deep part of the DB and assign ourselves genres in order to show up on that grid. maybe I'll do that over beersies tonight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Matt from Springfield:

@steve: Y'know, I obsessively search for past songs and comments on the Archives by Googlin' "site:wfmu.org <keywords>", that page just happened to come up!

Though it's worth mentioning that the same basic webpage has been up since '96, and some older pages aren't easily linked to the present. There are *many* diff interesting finds in the crawlspace beneath our .org!

Quoted in cover of Devaints' 'Ptoooff!' :
The wind blew, and the trumpets sang, and arrows whined; but the sun now climbing towards the South was veiled in the reeks of Mordor, and through a threatening haze it gleamed, remote, a sullen red, as if it were the ending of the day, or the end maybe of all the world of light. And out of the gathering mirk the Nazgul came w/ their cold voices crying words of death; & than all hop was quenched.
