Hey there. This sounds like some dang fine mome raths outgrabing already.

stop chortling in your joy, Ike. :D

hello, all!

scott! people! good sounds

IKE! As of 45 minutes ago I'm out of ginger biscuits. This is a deep crisis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm adrian in mpls:

greetings! no one's in my half of the building, so wfmu is cranked! or, alternatively: wfmu is cranked, so no one's in my half of the building

it's a win-win either way, Adrian.

Adrian's building's half-full. He's an optimist!
  3:13pm Dean:

Or "She." Apologies for gender presumption.
Avatar 3:13pm Cheri Pi:

This is some primo sound btw.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm adrian in mpls:

it just depends on what it's half full of.....which, at this moment, is some sorta photo shoot thingy. i'm staying far far away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm i k e:

@RTD, wow, you really rationed those out, eh? I have no such self-control with the McVitie's biscuits. But for ginger, the triple ginger snaps at Trader Joe's are even better.
Avatar 3:16pm Cecile:

I like Anna's Ginger Thins. Very gingery and paper-thin
Avatar 3:17pm Cecile:

this is a dance hit if I ever heard one. Dance hit for frost giants.
Avatar 3:18pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Found a semi-legit English pub in San Diego while on vacation. Lost all composure & bought a case of Walkers' Cheese & Onion crisps. Rationed 'em pretty well through the trip for a week. It does take a certain monk-like discipline...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Scott Williams:

BUDS! sup?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Scott Williams:

Cheri, let me add to the heaps of praise for yer turn w/ our Diane last week - stellar shew
Avatar 3:19pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

In the end, had to leave about 13 packets in the hotel for the housekeepers. Arranged in a very catholic-looking altar scene.
Avatar 3:19pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Boss Williams!
Avatar 3:20pm Cheri Pi:

thanks Boss!
Avatar 3:20pm Cecile:

saw two great exhbits this weekend. One was what I call "Fluxus and Friends" at the Walker, the other was 100 influrential drawings that the Mpls Institute of Arts had lying around in their basement.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Ĩkє:

Might visit NL & Germany soon. Wondering if they have any similarly addictive snacks & treats. Too bad I don't like beer, but I'll be trying ALL the chocolate and döner kebab.
Avatar 3:21pm Cecile:

yeah, Cheri BROUGHT it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm common:

i agree.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm DCE:

Ike, "don't like beer"...does not compute...
Avatar 3:22pm Cecile:

Ike, they are nothing but snacks and treats. They've been doing white sugar and flour gangsta style for 500+ years.
Avatar 3:23pm Cheri Pi:

I've never heard that phrase either Ike, word-play?
Avatar 3:23pm Cecile:

your sweet tooth will be very happy. not to mention pretzels and breads of every possible flour. mmmmmm (homer simpson noise)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm adrian in mpls:

@Cecile - I was hoping to get to that Fluxus exhibit soon - glad to hear it's worth it
Avatar 3:24pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

The pumpernickel pretzel is the absolute summit of human achievement. Hell yes I'm serious.
Avatar 3:24pm Cecile:

I have a couple of friends who tell me that. I would start a foundation for them, but they like wine and hard liquor, so that's cool.
  3:24pm bloopy:

morning scott!
Avatar 3:27pm Cecile:

We lucked out and got in for free as it was 1st Saturday.
I won't get into it much, because it should be a surprise for you, but I did get a little salty when the curators said "don't touch the glass cases". SO I SECRETLY TOUCHED THEM ALL WHEN THEY WEREN"T LOOKING.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm steve:

Avatar 3:27pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

HOLY CRAP, scott. That Olekranon piece.
Who or what is an Olekranon?
Must know more about this creature.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Andrew Waterloo:

Avatar 3:27pm Cecile:

I mean, these are glass cases full of dryer lint and whatnot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm adrian in mpls:

glass was made for smudging. and dryer lint storage.
  3:29pm ?:

it really sounded at first like it was some 50s soviet electronic music
Avatar 3:29pm Cecile:

that's right, adrian.
But they had great Yoko Ono work there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm i k e:

Sadly I am a poor mutant, cursed from birth w/fucked-up taste buds. I love sweet, spicy, salty, savory, but hate bitter. Thus, beer is a no-go. I wish I could taste what you taste, but instead it just goes down like paint thinner. Many a beer o' clock celebration has been lost on me. OTOH I save a shitload of $$$! MORE $$$ FOR WFMU!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm Scott Williams:

www.olekranon.bandcamp.com it's a dude in MA called Ryan Huber
Avatar 3:31pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Thanks SW. I'll delve therein.
This whole set has been weapons-grade lovely.
Avatar 3:32pm the glowing one:

I must say that David Thomas' "solo" work is much more interesting
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm adrian in mpls:

I agree with the REV -- was gonna get a coffee, but the wonderful tones have kept me rooted to the spot
  3:34pm Wasa:

Great stuff, real stuff! /Wasa, Gothenburg, Sweden
  3:36pm Dean:

RTD: Was that pub Princess of Wales on India Street?
Avatar 3:37pm the glowing one:

this is indeed dance music. for my hands. the whole time they've been tap dancing hard on that table I'm sitting at, lol
Avatar 3:40pm Cecile:

tell me about this cut. This is crazy good.
Avatar 3:40pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

@Dean: I don't think so, but can't remember ... I just recall seeing the name & thinking "ah, that sounds promising" . Here in the DC area, we're drowning in fake Irish joints, so anything leaning more English gets my vote immediately.
Avatar 3:41pm Cheri Pi:

Inspired set Ess Dub.
Avatar 3:42pm Cheri Pi:

This is the JAM!
Avatar 3:43pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Pi (3:42) speaks with precision accuracy.
Avatar 3:43pm Cheri Pi:

I've played this one for Mr. CP, he took it as well as he did Black Orpheus.
Avatar 3:43pm Cecile:

which is not all that well, right? hahahaha
  3:44pm Dean:

OUAT the PoW had a genuine vibe. I think the neighborhood had a British population. Nowadays, I don't know, but I also enjoyed dropping in for a pint of Guinness when I was visiting SD.
Avatar 3:44pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar 3:45pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Parq:

Great, great opening set. Glad to know Awesome-Africa is still plugging.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Parq:

Pi, no doubt your Martian dudes are still giddy from your show last week.
Avatar 3:49pm Cheri Pi:

I wonder if Meghan and Julie bought awesome tapes while they were in Africa?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Scott Williams:

I know Meghan went on a serious shopping spree in S. Africa; not so much Kenya
  3:52pm C in pensacola:

liked that Bluebut
Avatar 3:55pm Cheri Pi:

Summer can eat a bag...
Avatar 3:56pm Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Greg from Bloomfield:

Avatar 4:05pm Cecile:

ah, the album everyone who hates Led Zeppelin likes
Avatar 4:05pm Chris from DC:

Always dug this slow part.
Avatar 4:05pm Cecile:

I did buy it the day it came out.
  4:10pm P-90:

This is actually quite "Proggy". They had that side, it's often overlooked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm common:

love this one!
Avatar 4:18pm the glowing one:

I just looked it up and apparently this album has never been reissued on CD!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Scott Williams:

twas also a very late production of Tom Wilson (att. Irwin the Ch)
  4:21pm r i s k y:

Oh man, the bassline on this is murder!
Hey everybody. Tuned all the way in today.
Avatar 4:21pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

yep, that's a Jannick Top (ish) fuzz on that sucker.
  4:26pm r i s k y:

Ooof what a great track, hot damn.
Avatar 4:36pm Chris from DC:

Yes! That Owen Maercks is one of the reissues of the year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Scott Williams:

and he's now a reptile handler for kids' parties!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm common:

makes perfect sense.
Avatar 4:39pm Cecile:

people have reptiles at children's parties besides plastic dinosaurs?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Carmichael:

Good day Scott and listeners. Nice Carroll reference, Ike (Lewis, not Jim)! I thought maybe Scott was playing a Frumious Bandersnatch song.
Avatar 4:41pm Chris from DC:

It's so good, that record. Sounds a lot like Debris.
Avatar 4:42pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

This office needs a lizard guy!
Avatar 4:42pm Cecile:

Avatar 4:42pm Cecile:

I got bit by a "harmless" snake. Not excited about being around them any more. Turtles are OK though.
  4:43pm Dean:

He's the lizard guy because he is co-owner of the East Bay Vivarium, a very cool store near Berkeley's Fourth Street shopping area. Here's a recent post on the local paper's blog: http://blog.sfgate.com/thebigevent/2014/08/27/38-years-later-owen-maercks-perplexing-record-is-a-hit/
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Carmichael:

Speaking of ginger, I just got shipped to me some authentic Ontbeikuchen, straight from the homeland. Somebody's homeland, anyway.
  4:46pm Dean:

Per an earlier article linked from the one above, the EBV is "the largest reptile house west of the Mississippi."
Avatar 4:48pm KP:

Snakes strike me as cold blooded.
Avatar 4:48pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

yay, Coulter!
His show was my WFMU gateway drug, circa 1997...
Avatar 4:54pm Cecile:

this has a feel like Look Blue/Go Purple, but darker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm steve:

oh yes. scrape-a scrape-a scrape-a
Avatar 5:14pm TDK60:

Good to hear Robin Williamson again, always has interesting chords, riffs, bending vocal notes to surprise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm Rectitude:

Avatar 5:15pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar 5:17pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar 5:26pm TDK60:

Between R.W., Comus, and this gray cooler day it seems almost autumn-like.
  5:26pm Kaspar Olef Pinkle:

In a fish tank, this music you can swim around in.
Avatar 5:29pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Absolutely must get this reissue. My love for that Comus LP is a creepy creepy love... And yes, TDK60 -- total autumn vibe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...it were in Mojo or somesuch that Noel Gallagher (purty sure) said he bought an old Beatles-style (if not thee) Moog
- & the leetle Flamenco flourish @ beginning of BugalowBill was a preset !
...so - these guys prolly @ least played their own little guitar scale...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...does that even make sense, Synth people - ??...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...ah - I transpose Mellotron for Moog - just as likely...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...or Gallagher - or Reporter did ! :
...'By 1967, everyone was experimenting with the Mellotron. The Beatles used it for the flute intro to 'Strawberry Fields Forever' and couldn't get enough of it after that (the Spanish guitar riff that opens The White Album's 'The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill' wasn't played by George Harrison — it's straight from a Mellotron factory tape!)'...
Avatar 5:53pm doca:

@RRN63: I just found this www.youtube.com...
Avatar 5:54pm northguineahills:

The Miopec & Andreass Cortezano track was pretty sweet. Thanks Scott!

Thanks, Scott!

UH OH. Now I'm stuck listening to Carouselambra over and over and over again. Having flashbacks to 1981 and my grandma's basement where all the records and the player were.
